very busy but very worth it!! - Edit
the day we went was over the bank holiday weekend so i think we caught them on a bad day, the only lady at front of house seemed to be wizzing about doing a lot and had roped in two not staff members who very kindly helped take orders, serve food and prepared drinks. despite the long wait to order we didn’t actually wait very long to eat and although when we arrived it was crammed with no seats, people soon finished up and left. i believe we just missed the rush but my goodness we’re the staff friendly, apologetic and despite being rushed off their feet we had no problems with our food when it came. The waiting proved to be worth it - my husband had a daily special southern fried editable burger and it was really very tasty (he let me try some - just!) i had a bbq pilled jackfruit sandwich which i added vegan cheese to. it came with salad and slaw inside and the bread was proper chunky doorstop bread which made the sandwich HUGE! it was great :D. would defo recommend and would come here again even if i knew it was going to be busy. deee-lish!

Mixed - Edit
The vegan brekkie was very good. The pancake "stack" which was £6.50 for 3 pancakes was not as advertised (menu said "lashings of maple syrup" when there was none at all, toasted coconut was a sprinkle of dessicated stuff i couldn't find at first glance and about 1 tsp of cashew cream). Coffee was nice as were the staff. Toilet is not accessible. I'd give it another shot.

Interesting little place - Edit
Lovely food, lovely staff, slightly odd arrangement inside though, with it not being all that relaxing (couldn't quite put my finger on it) - though we'll definitely be back!

Fully vegan central cafe, limited menu, just getting going - Edit
I’ve been here 3 times so far because I want to support them. It’s a bit disorganised and the menu is quite limited but really it is a family run place and they’re still getting going so I think they need a bit of patience. They have always been apologetic about any long waits etc. Lunch is just sandwiches with chips or salad but a decent selection. Breakfast is better - very home cooked style but lots of different things on the plate! They often have iced cinnamon buns which are a favourite treat of mine!

We had become a bit disappointed with Roots Lounge due to how disorganised it was. However it seems to have changed hands and is much much better now! Breakfasts are great, served promptly and with a relaxed and friendly attitude, and they are now open evenings too with a delicious dinner menu of Indian food including gulab Jamun!

Fresh and zingy flavours - Edit
First visit - dropping off son at university. Four of us dining. Had a selection of starters and a sharing platter of delicious curries. Every element distinct from the next with lovely fresh flavours. We ate every scrap and will definitely return when we next come to Bristol. Very affordable. Welcoming staff.

Very nice restaurant - Edit
I popped in with a friend on a very rainy day. My friend had the bruchetta and said it was nice, I had the bbq jackfruit wrap, which was huge and tasty. The sweet potato chips were a bit disappointing... as they were tripple fried you couldn't really taste the sweet potato anymore. The staff was very friendly.

Roots lounge - Edit
This is an amazing place that is owned by good people with great staff. The food is really delicious and the smoothies are out of this world, anyone who is vegan should go check it out for themselves.

New kid on the block - Edit
Just opened today in Bristol. I came for breakfast and chose the Roots breakfast. Good portion. The baked beans were excellent. Scramble could do with a bit of black salt for more of a sulphur taste but each to their own. Gluten free toast offered which was delicious. Had a mocha coffee with Almond milk which was a little dull but I’ll put it down to first day nerves. Cafe itself was clean, light and airy with a chilled out vibe. Staff were bubbly and friendly. A great addition to the growing vegan scene here. Couldn’t help myself and bought a banoffee slice to take away. Cakes all look great.

Fantastic! - Edit
I’ve travelled all over the world as a vegan and this place has the best breakfast I’ve ever had. The owner, Glen, is so nice and the place has a really great feel. Can’t recommend it more highly!

Great little place - Edit
One of my favourite places to eat in Bristol. Excited that they are extending their menu next month! Their Asian Seitan wrap is amazing, as are the Roots breakfasts. Nice chilled atmosphere and very decent prices.

Jackfruit BBQ wrap - Edit
Tasty lunch option, if you're in the area and not in a rush it's relaxing place to go and chill out. I wasn't blown away by the menu options but I did enjoy what I ate and will be back to support this vegan venture and try other things on the menu.

Quite good - Edit
The food was tasty, but the wraps/sandwiches are a bit overpriced. The ambience is nice and relaxed. The staff were OK, except one who was quite rude to us (young dark-haired guy). I'd say go to Vx instead if you can.

Disappointing - Edit
Visited mid March 2018, wanting a cup of coffee and some cake. The cafe relies on that 'shabby chic' approach but just appears grubby and tatty. The payment counter area is a real muddle and located in a room well away from the kitchen, meaning the staff have to walk off round the building to place an order. The cakes on the counter did not look half as appetising as those available on a number of stalls set out in Bristol's lanes outside. Upon paying for a decaff coffee (and other things) we were then told that decaff was not available. The sofa we had to perch on had numerous stains and the whole place was rather 'crusty'. The staff seemed distracted and not particularly professional. All this may be a factor of the cafe's 'grass roots' approach but I cannot imagine it to be all that attractive to the general public when compared to the ever expanding range of vegan options within Bristol (though admittedly, this place is totally vegan whereas other places will not be). I cannot vouch for the food as we did not try any as the service and atmosphere was not really what we wanted and we quickly left. Would take some persuading to return.

Cons: Tatty, looks rundown despite being new, Unappetising cakes, no decaff coffee

Thank you for this review. I'd like to stick up for us here though and our staff. Firstly we do not rely on shabby chic (actually can't stand it) we are doing the best we can with our furniture, under the circumstances as the ceiling fell down before we opened! Finances have been stretched
Read moreIf you came in, in mid March, you would have come in during our soft opening, we would have been open for 2 weeks and we would have been and are still finding our feet.
I also imagine if you were perching we would have been for the first time incredibly busy and I can only apologise that we ran out of decaff and were running low on cakes..
Our staff work incredibly hard, are friendly and attentive and again I apologise for you not finding them professional.
Our till is not running properly yet hence the running around but this will end soon and nobody will be more chuffed than us when we have to stop running back and forth.
Thank you for your support during our soft opening,!!!

Delicious! - Edit
Came in to hang out with my friend, but arrived early to get some paperwork done. The chap serving me was really lovely, and made me a delicious oat milk cappuccino, and I got to enjoy a quiet atmosphere which helped me get through my paperwork. My friend arrived and we ordered drinks and food, but it got busy and they forgot our drink order, but once we mentioned it they brought it over as quickly as they could. The BBQ pulled jackfruit was awesome, and the chips very well seasoned. My friend enjoyed her hoisin wrap as well. Bonus points go to the adorable Rudy, a lovely pupper who nibbled my ear and have me all the kisses and cuddles! We will be back to try breakfast as they unfortunately don’t serve all day.

Awesome food - Edit
Only tried the Hoi sin wrap and the breakfast so far, but I suspect I'm going to be working my way down the menu! The seitan in the wrap (home made apparently) was super soft and tasted great, and the bits of breakfast I could actually manage to steal off my wife's plate were excellent, worth it for the bubble and squeak alone.

Basic comfort food - Edit
No attempt to stand out here, just a mish-mash of basic stuff thrown together. That’s OK, sometimes that’s all you need. But life’s too short for average food, and there’s many better options around Bristol....
