Sometimes being vegan in Japan can feel like you miss out a little on the atmosphere of busy local spots, but as a popular non-vegan chain with very solid vegan options, this is a really nice place to go when you want to be around people in that comforting, pleasantly anonymous kind of way. I needed a huge bowl of creamy tonkotsu ramen on a cold night and to not feel lonely in a quiet restaurant, and Kiou delivered. They did my gyoza in the microwave and threw over some sauce for me in a packet and I can't complain. Cheap and cheerful, rich and salty and probably bad for you, all the good stuff. The branch at Shin-Osaka station is also a godsend.

Amazing ramen in an authentic spot - Edit
The spicy miso charsiu ramen was just incredible. The gyozas were also the best I’ve ever had. We had to queue outside for a little while to get in but it was absolutely worth it.

You order on a tablet and can pay at a machine when you leave, which is convenient. They have Miso Ramen, Spicy Miso Ramen and Vegetable Gyoza inside an own section on the tabled with only vegan food.

Read moreMy friend was raving about their plant-based noods so I knew I had to come and try. Situated just right outside the JR station, this small shop offers seating for about 6 at the counter along with three small tables that can comfortably fit up to 4 people.
Everything is ordered via touchscreen and you can easily set it to English for your convenience. My friends and I all chose to order their vegan miso ramen which incorporates juicy seitan for their "meat" and loaded with tons of veggie flavor. I ordered mine at the highest spice level and was floored with how good my noodles were. Definitely a must get if you are looking for a vegetarian option.
We loved it so much that we came back another night and managed to order their veggie gyoza which were also vegan.
Note: not all of their locations serve the vegan option so find one that does and you will be impressed.

Had the spicy miso ramen on the lowest spice level, also added the mock meat, and gyosa. Everything was very well, and the ramen soup thick and creamy. Tried to come back a second time, also in the late evening after 9-10pm, but this time both vegan ramen options were sold out.

Hands down the best vegan ramen I tried in Japan. I had the vegan miso charsiu ramen and it was mindblowing. It was spicy, with bold taste and the best thing was the charred vegan meat. A must try for each ramen lover! They offer also a "regular" vegan miso ramen and vegan gyozas but I did not try it since the ramen was really satisfying. Also the staff was very helpful. This place deserves more than 4 stars easily.

Es gibt zwei vegane Ramen mit der Möglichkeit die vegane Beilage "Chashu" zu verdoppeln. Nudeln sind lecker, der Ramen selbst ist bodenständig und unaufgeregt mit wenigen Einlagen, dafür geschmacklich sehr gut und schön cremig.

The vegan ramen spicy option wasn't available, so I tried the other ramen. If you like me, you don't like taste or texture of meat, don't on't try the vegan ramen here. The broth had a very strong pork taste, and I couldn't eat my dish. Husband was happy with his meat ramen. Staff friendly and speaksome English.
