A happy discovery in Vientiane.

Although communication was a little difficult we managed through my rusty Chinese and the staff's electronic translator devices. Didn't seem conversant in Lao language.

They seemed a little surprised that I was asking if it was vegetarian/vegan despite there being nothing outside saying it is, although the name is suggestive. On the interior wall there is a Chinese couplet extolling the virtue of eating plants (su =素) and there are packets of organic, non-GMO soy products on a shelf.

It seemed somewhat like some Buddhist vegetarian restaurants I've been to in other parts of Asia.

Staff very helpful and seemed to have a good customer-focused approach, willing to adjust how spicy dishes are.

I tried their savoury steamed buns, peppery and sour soup and steamed sticky rice filled with sweet bean paste. All were good and the buns were especially so. Prices for those were moderate, coming to just 70,000kip, but some of the dishes on their main menu were considerably more expensive (100-150,000kip). Without trying them I can't say whether they are good value or not.

Certainly worth trying if you are in this end of town and like Chinese Buddhist-style vegetarian/vegan cuisine.
