Basically no options, unknowledgeable staff - Edit
The only option was an impossible burger on lousy sourdough bread. When asked if something could be made vegan by taking off the cheese, our server said "idk it might have butter or eggs..." And did not offer to find out. Very unhelpful!

Take this off happy cow - Edit
It sounds like they changed owners. They have an impossible burger but that’s it. I don’t think it should be listed on happy cow.

Not the same quality as previous ownership :( - Edit
I’ve been to Public House quite a few times but haven’t been back since they reopened with new ownership and I am so sad. I feel like they are now the same as any other basic, overpriced brunch spots in San Diego. The food was lackluster and very few vegan options. This place used to have a very seasonal farm to table menu that changes often and it’s gone😒their burger said “ask for plant based options” and it’s just the impossible patty with no vegan cheese options but they did say they can make their poke bowl vegan using tomatoes instead of tuna so there is that I guess.
Read moreWe ordered:
- shishito peppers
- jalapeno caesar salad, no cheese and made vegan (which is literally just greens, roasted pepitas, and dressing once they removed all the non-vegan toppings….for $15)
- togarashi fries (which was okay but way overpriced)
- rich vegan chocolate cake with coconut whip (which was delicious but teeeeny tiny and mostly whip)
I have fond memories of the old Public House and honestly I doubt I’d come back now.

Some vegan options - Edit
Some of the vegan options mentioned by other reviewers (eg portobello banh mi) we’re not on the menu when I visited - the Chef let me know there were just a couple of vegan options - shishito peppers, brussell sprouts, $14 hummus, but that other things could be veganized (leaving cheese off a pizza flatbread). He also let me know that all burgers could be substituted with a Beyond Burger - though that wasn’t mentioned on the menu.

Great place to go with friends and family - Edit
Excellent location in the heart of Old Town, close to parking if it's busy on the strip. They have lots of great vegan options. I've had the portobello Banh Mi and killer fries, Impossible Burger, and Asian Salad. They have vegan ranch and vegan cocktails, and lots of other options like vegan Poke Bowls, etc.

Excellent Vegan Options - Edit
I’ve been here 3 times now and love every vegan option they have. A few menu items are naturally vegan as well. Carnivores will like this place too if you’re a mixed crowd.

Cons: Could use more vegan breakfast options
