Filled A Potteries Hole

Trundling my way across the country to yet another destination on my current jaunt around the UK, the inevitable pangs of hunger struck and so began the lottery of what might await at the next motorway services. Fortunately, on this particular stretch, the options appeared reassuringly familiar, meaning I stood a reasonable chance of finding something decent. Spotting this dependable mainstay on the roadside hoardings, I decided it was as good a bet as any.
As suspected, there were no great surprises waiting for me and, on this occasion, that was very much a good thing. Though not the largest outlet in the chain, there was still a respectable range of plant-based options, all clearly labelled and mercifully easy to grab before getting back on the road.
Most importantly, everything felt gloriously fresh. The butternut and hummus mezze bowl was vibrant, colourful and genuinely nutritious, the iced oat latte was smooth and refreshing, providing a much-needed caffeine boost without weighing me down, while the avo, olives and toms baguette - despite possessing one of the most painfully abbreviated names ever committed to a menu board - was satisfyingly filled and exactly what I wanted.
In a fit of whimsy, I also ventured slightly off-piste and picked up a mango & banana sunshine bowl. It proved to be an inspired decision and exactly what I didn’t know I needed. Light, fruity and pleasantly zingy, it was the ideal antidote to hours spent behind the wheel. Naturally, I also acquired a little chocolate for later, purely as an emergency precaution should the journey demand it. Safety first, after all.
I’ve always found this chain to be dependably good, consistently sitting just above the average of what you might expect from a grab-and-go café. This visit did nothing to change that opinion. While there are plenty of branches dotted around the country, this particular one was especially well stocked, immaculately presented, and a genuine credit to the brand.
