Good vegan brunch options in an area with nothing

Great pancakes and vegan burrito. Good portion sizes for the price too. Only a few options but all tasty. Nice to have a real diner vibe as an option in an area like this with very few vegan options broadly. Good spot for brunch with a group (but very crowded on a weekend so be prepared to wait)

It’s ok, not great.

They have a vegan menu you can ask for, which is nice. I ate here three times trying different vegan options, none of them were bad, but they were not great. The yellow rice served with the vegan chili was undercooked and crunchy.

The vegan breakfast burrito feels like they took the meat option out of a “normal” burrito and didn’t think of any meatless substitute. You end up with a big bite of fried potatoes mostly that over powers the refried beans and guacamole, even the peppers I added.

The pancakes come in three versions; vegan, buttermilk, and buckwheat. Mine came with a tiny portion of fruit - slivers of strawberries, and small blueberries. They also give you a very small portion of maple syrup that for me didn’t cover the pancakes. Perhaps for those that eat butter there is more moisture. Without butter however, the limited fruit and syrup make the dry aspects of the pancakes more pronounced (in my opinion)

This 3 star review is for the food and not the service but when I sat down at the counter, I ordered a side of maple syrup upfront. Why? Because I recognized the waitress from the two previous visits where it was clear she had a problem with tourist and minorities, and an even bigger problem with minority tourists. I felt bad for the people she was serving and lucky I didn’t have her.

On my 3rd visit, my luck ran out. So I ordered upfront… while she had her back turned to me the entire time. I assumed I wouldn’t get hold of her again, and I was right.

She gave me a dirty glass of water, no extra syrup that I ordered, charged me for two extra syrups then walked off.

Another waitress covering another section noticed the dirty glass and water from across the diner (that’s how dirty it was) and she came over and took it away, said sorry, brought me a clean glass and asked if there was anything else, then brought the extra syrup, and made eye contact.

Pros: Nice views, Nice outside seating , Parking

Cons: Extra syrup is $1.50

Great vegan breakfast!

Tried the vegan pancakes and the breakfast burrito. Recommend both! Three pancakes were very filling. The potatoes in the breakfast burrito are delicious. The Muddy Water cold brew drink is great (cold brew, oatmilk and local maple syrup). Great vibes inside. VERY busy however. So be prepared for lots of people and having to wait.

Pancakes of your dreams

The vegan pancakes at Phoenicia Diner are the best pancakes I’ve ever had, vegan or not. Every bite has perfect texture and flavor. They are so fluffy and pleasantly filling.

Please go out of your way on your next trip to the Catskills and stop in at this diner. I can only hope New York builds a rail line between NYC and Phoenicia in my lifetime so I can visit more often.

Dog friendly diner

I've only eaten in their outdoor area so I can't speak for the indoor, but it's all self-service once you place your order. You go up to get your food, utensils, drinks, napkins, and put your dishes away once you're done.

Outdoor area is spacious and cute. LOVE that it's dog friendly! Perfect place to dine if you're with your pups.

Stoked to see that they had a separate vegan menu (it's on the wall of the bus if you're outside). Breakfast burrito was great, and I especially loved the salsa verde that came with it.

Muddy Water (cold brew, oat milk, maple syrup) needed extra sweetness, but it was still good.

This place is a hotspot with the locals and tourists alike, so expect to wait a while if you're going at peak meal times. We waited about 45 minutes.

Pros: Vegan options, Dog friendly

Two great vegan options- pancakes and chili

There are 2 (permanent) vegan options at the Phoenicia Diner and I got to try both! The vegan pancakes were fluffy but the fruit around it was a little old and mushy. The vegan three bean chili was the better of the two options. There was a delicious yellow rice on the side and it was topped with a creamy coconut yogurt. I got a bonus option because the soup of the day was a vegan cream of mushroom which was also delicious, but a little cold. Overall, a nice place and you should be able to find something you like. They also have oat milk to add to your coffee, matcha, or chai tea. Reasonably priced as well. A 3.5 would be more accurate but that's not an option.
