It isn't good to leave a bad review of a local business but feel its necessary in this case.
Read more3 of us arrived at just before 8pm tonight. Was only a handful of customers there (approx 6 people out of max covers of around 32 ).
Firstly but perhaps least importantly, staff were all wearing white polo t-shirts unironed and creased, doesn't reflect well on a place or brand, but hey ho if the food is good who cares right (apart from the owners)?
Ordered veg spring rolls for starters. For mains a beef salad, bun hue mushroom/tofu and a baguette.
Beef salad arrived first (a main) followed 10 minutes later by the starter, followed by another main 20 mins later and the other main 5 minutes later. So obviously we all ate our food at different times.
Beef salad presentation was woeful. Spring rolls were split from frying and burnt from the inside out. The bun hue was totally tasteless, is advertised as spicy but forget that it wasn't spicy at all it just had no taste whatsoever. Baguette tasted stale and disappointing
And to top it off we had staff taking pics of us at 9.15pm presumably in a attempt to amuse themselves that we dared stay past 9pm closing (mains came not much before 9pm and we left them 2 half uneaten).
I honestly can't remember the last time I didn't tip for service no matter how bad a experience was.
Such a shame, I love Vietnamese food and would love to have a good local Vietnamese place to go to but Pho Me is sadly such a let down.
Feel free to improve (lots and lots) and invite us back to, we will be happy to pop back, but until then we will stick to the many great eateries that Hitchin has to offer.
Pros: Has some vegan options, BYOB

Delicious Vietnamese food - Edit
Ordered food for delivery via go-getters- arrived quickly and containers recyclable (except for cling film around the soup). Got a pho with tofu & mushrooms which with subtle but tasty flavours curry with rice which came with veg, tofu and mushrooms and was fragrant and flavourful. The fried breadsticks didn’t arrive but refund sorted.

Updated 25.05.2022: Dined in- cute place in an old building overlooking the square. Got a papaya salad, Vietnamese pankcake, fried bread sticks (so amazing), pho & summer rolls (all tofu options). Food was all delicious & fresh. Good portion sizes. They don’t currently have an alcohol licence but your can bring your own booze.

The Vietnamese salads are great, the lotus is my favourite. The tofu pancakes are also fantastic.
