Not all vegan store - Edit

Not an all vegan store, but vegan items are labelled and easy to find.

Left with a bag of loot!! - Edit

Came here looking for Lima Cafe however it has since closed;nevertheless I got a bunch of vegan goodies to eat in and take away. If you are around you can get a ready made vegan bento box for 694 yen and they are very filling.

Missing Lima Cafe, loving the bento boxes - Edit

Last year we hit the vegan jackpot with Lima Cafe. Delicious and affordable meals and convenient takeout boxes and rice balls. I nearly cried when I discovered the cafe is now closed. However, the market still has bento boxes that are clearly labeled vegan. And if you have access to a kitchen, you can find all you need to make an authentic Japanese vegan meal. I really wish the cafe was there though.

Pros: Clearly labeled grocery items, Vegan bento boxes , Location is close to Shinjuku station

Cons: Cafe is closed

Edit May 2019 - Edit

Edit: Yeah the cafe bit has closed and while a shop is still there, there's not much in the way of stuff that is ready to eat.

Previously 5* original review:

Reasonably near to Shinjuku station (depending which end you are at) so not too bad to get to/find.

I had the lunch set my partner had the veggie burger (which she says was the best of the three or so different veggie burger places we tried in Japan). The set was good value with miso soup. Didn't have to wait very long for service. Probably seats about 15-20 people in total so might get busy at times but the most we had was another 3-4 people.

While we were there, a dessert option was a Brown Rice Ice Cream that was a real surprise. I asked about the ingredients, not out of concern but curiosity. From what I managed to understand it was only Brown rice and Soy Milk/Cream. This was a very surprising and nice treat that I will be trying to emulate at home.

Went twice whilst in Tokyo for a week and both times were great. Probably would have gone more and explored the menu a bit further. Didn't get anything from the attached shop but it was interesting to look around nonetheless.

Pros: Decent location, Good value, Western and Local dishes

Cons: No beer/wine

Beware— just a store, not a cafe - Edit

The tasty-looking photos on this page led me here, only to be disappointed. They no longer serve food as of May 2018. The seating area remains, but only to eat bentos or whatever that you buy at the store. The store itself is fine, with a pretty wide selection.

Tasty Burgers and more - Edit

I'm surprised I haven't written a review yet.

I've been there in 2014 and 2017 again. With better Japanese it was a lot easier to order. Apart from that the staff also speaks English.
The food (burgers, soup, fries, salad) was delicious, so I happened to be there almost on daily basis. I used the take-away option, too.

Pros: Really tasty, Quite easily to find, English speaking staff

Healthy and nice - Edit

I’ve been here a few times now, and the food is always quite nice and healthy. There’s not a big selection (some things seem to be constantly “sold out”) but it’s tasty and the price is all right. If you’re heath conscious and looking for something quick to eat and go, this is a good place to go.

Pros: Healthy food

Cons: Some menu items seem to be always unavailable

Super! - Edit

It is a small self service restaurant next to an organic store oerfect for lunch. The food is really cheap with great taste. Definately you have to try if your budget is low.

Great place for out of towers. - Edit

Grocery store and cafe, that are open into the evening. Was literally round the corner from my hotel and after an overnight/daytime flight was really convenient to buy some vegan stuff and have a light meal without having to venture too far when so tired.

Pros: lots of vegan products.

Cons: Not an extensive menu.

Fresh, reviving food. - Edit

We found this place while looking for another Veg*n place called Milk Land (which is just around the corner, on the inner side of the building complex, we later discovered). We had given up trying to find Milk Land so went back to LIMA - we had been flying all night and wandering around Shinjuku until we could get into our accommodation, very tired. The meal we had at LIMA really revived us. It was tasty and felt like it did us a lot of good! The shop inside is also interesting to look around and buy a few snacks. However, beware, I went to buy some instant noodle bowls to have in our accommodation for another day, and asked if they were vegetarian using a card I had printed in Japanese. The lady looked through the ingredients on the noodle package and said "no not vegetarian" - so not everything in the shop section is vegetarian or vegan.

Pros: Tasty, healthy food, Quick service, Friendly staff

I feel sorry for this bad review but it was truly incompetent - Edit

Perhaps they were at they end of their food supply, but all they could serve was 1 of their 6 meals. The only option was a rice plate that was clearly unpopular. It was pre-made and cold from sitting out.

They did in fact offer ramen; I bought some but they retracted that offer five minutes later.

I was very excited for this place and perhaps they were having a bad day. Regardless, vegan restaurants are fun because we don't have to choose just one mediocre option. Maybe you should call ahead to see if they have any food... It's just disappointing to go out of the way for nothing.

Pros: Quick bite, Enjoyable atmosphere

Cons: One meal option that is not good. , Poor service, Food is cold or lukewarm from sitting out.

great take-out - Edit

Inexpensive takeaway option.
There is also a store next door (same building) which sells tofu, veggies, etc. but be careful because the store also has fish and milk products.

quick healthy food - Edit

In the two ocassions I've been here I've only been able to try the lunch special. Is good but a little small and very simple, so the price is fair but you might end up hungry.

Now the store is godsend, they have a lot of good stuff if you're staying in tokyo for more than a week. There's even vegan cheese and a very good selection of soy ice creams. I'd go for the matcha one as it's quite hard to find as a vegan and part of the Japan experience.

not that good. - Edit

Too simple, even if it’s cheap, portions are hella small (ok there is a good portion of rice but if I take some cooked gluten I want more than 3 lil pieces) and staff was not that nice. Won’t come back here even if it’s quite good in taste and « cheap ».

Pros: good but not amazing

Cons: staff, portions too small, basic

Quick snack - Edit

Eating out in Tokyo is hella expensive so I have been trying to limit my restaurant meals. I couldnt say no to the soft serve ice cream though!! It was so soft and realistic, even if it did taste slightly different due to the rice base. There was even a little rice cake at the bottom of the bowl for texture!

Pros: Realistic, Delicious, Also has a store

Cons: Expensive, Store isnt entirely vegan

Healthy food, not the most inventive - Edit

We walked here from our hotel as it was convenient. I wouldn't go out of your way to eat here. Tasty food and when in Tokyo, it's reassuring when something is vegan. But I found the food a little free of creativity or strong flavors. Great miso soup though, and nice folks working there. It was tough for us to find any vegan options in the attached grocery store without knowing Japanese.

Fantastic - Edit

This place is a true gem in the middle of one of the busiest area in Tokyo. Food is delicious and very affordable. All vegan, desserts included. We loved our meal so much that we also bought a couple of sandwiches to go. I cannot recommend this place enough. One of the best vegan restaurants I have been to around the world.

Pros: Price, Quality of food, Great vibe

Cons: None!

Small portion, not much taste - Edit

Unfortunately, this was another disappointment for me in Tokyo. The lunch menu was pretty short - no problem, better focus doing a few dishes really well than offering hundreds of choices. I picked the daily special, a set of three sides with brown rice. The food was ready pretty quickly. There was a bowl of a seaweed-based salad that tasted nice. The rest of the meal was rather bland. One of the sides was a scoop of potato salad that did not feel inspiring at all.

The meal was cheap (900 yen) but the portion was also rather small. I topped it up with some rice crackers (from another place) not to go hungry for the rest of the day.

Pros: English menu

Cons: Bland taste, Small portion

it saves my tokyo trip - Edit

if you are a vegan/vegetarian and you stay around sunroute hotel in shinjuku. you should pay a visit to LIMA. it provides a lot of vegan stuff like a instant noodle / frozen food. and a tiny cafe. while finding vegan/vegetarian food like hell in tokyo, you will find LIMA is very helpful
