Joya escondida en el corazón del Antiguo - Edit
El barrio Antiguo de San Sebastián es uno de esos barrios que te atrapa. Ya sea por su cercanía a la playa, al Palacio de Miramar o por tener una arteria principal como la calle Matía, que te permite gozar del mejor ambiente donostiarra. Justo en este combo que supone el barrio, se encuentra —un poco escondida (¡no lo vamos a negar!)— la taberna Orburu.
Read moreCon la bienvenida nos acomodamos rápido y trajeron la carta, que es de esas que me gustan a mí: pocos platos, pero ejecutados a la perfección, aunque en ese momento aún no lo supiera. Mi sospecha era cierta, porque de todas las opciones de la carta que probamos (casi la mitad), algunas adaptadas al 100 % en versión vegana, rozaban un nivel altísimo. Y con esto me refiero a que, ya fueran las zanahorias asadas adaptadas (con baba ganoush, migas e hinojo), el romanescu a la plancha aderezado con puré de boniato (además de salsa harissa y dukkah de pistacho) o la berza asada con «risotto» de orzo y calabaza, cada bocado llegaba con esa sorpresa serena que solo dan los platos bien pensados.
Y entonces llegó el postre. No me escondo: siempre voy a preferir algo con chocolate. En este caso era una tarta de chocolate negro densísimo que combinaba a la perfección con el sorbete de plátano y la crema de cacahuete, un final goloso sin caer en excesos. Y por si fuera poco, el servicio de sala me pareció de un nivel muy superior: personal atento, amable, cercano y siempre encantado de ayudar, aportando esa calidez que convierte una comida en una experiencia.
En definitiva, y volviendo por donde me perdí, encontrar Orburu es una apuesta segura en la ciudad: una cocina honesta, muy bien pensada y ejecutada, y un equipo que convierte la visita en algo todavía mejor. Un lugar al que apetece volver, como quien regresa a un rincón que empieza a sentirse propio y que, sin darte cuenta, ya forma parte de ti.

Definitely the most creative & delightful restaurant in San Sebastián - Edit
Au Orburu Taverna, la table se fait philosophie végétale : chaque plat est une hypothèse confirmée par la bouche. Le velouté de panais, servi comme une évidence si fine qu'on en devinerait les battements de cœur, glisse comme un secret — la citronnelle y danse en notes vertes et métalliques, juste assez pour qu'on regrette de l'avoir attendu si longtemps. Les lamelles de châtaigne, elles, ajoutent une texture avec l'élégance d'un feu de cheminée qu'on n'a jamais osé allumer. Plus loin, le chou-fleur — ce pauvre légume qu'on imagine souvent bouilli dans la honte — se métamorphose en constellation dorée, posée sur un houmous de lentilles corail dont la couleur oscille entre l'ambre et l'hématite. Là, pas d'excès : juste une rondeur douce, une pointe de... non, pas de citron, juste la chaleur d'une épice indécelable qui reste en bouche comme un souvenir d'été en hiver. Et puis la tarte. Ah, la tarte au chocolat. Pas une bombe sucrée, non : une flan très dense, très serré, composé avec un cacao qui vient d’un endroit où on respire, et se sent comme le centre de l’univers. Cet objet du désir cacaoté sérieux et intime se tient droit comme un soldat, assorti de son subtil sorbet banane qui l’affronte — froid contre tiède, fruit contre cacao, enfance contre adultère. La crème au beurre de cacahuète, elle, est là pour rappeler que le plaisir n'a pas besoin de hurler : elle murmure, ronde, presque indécente dans sa douceur. C'est ça, Orburu Taberna: un endroit où le végétal devient langage, où le chef — jardinier avant d'être alchimiste — transforme la terre en syllabes. Pas de feu d'artifice, juste une constellation subtile qui te laisse, dix minutes plus tard, à te demander pourquoi tu n'es pas revenu hier.

I went with a table full of vegans so got to try all the vegan options. The dishes are great for sharing if you’re with a group. The food was incredible, delicious, creative beautifully prepared. The staff was gracious and accommodating even when our reservation for six turned into a table of 15.

We ordered three main dishes (roasted carrots, fried eggplants and green beans) for two people. They were delicious and the combinations between vegetables and creams were always great. The waiter was professional, patient and kind. The location is underground. It looks like a cozy cave. The place fills up very quickly. Reservation suggested.

Amazing hidden gem - Edit
Fully vegetarian menu with vegan options. The waiter was very helpful and suggested ordering 3 dishes between 2 of us. It was all delicious, especially the grilled spring onion potatoes and Sautéed green beans. One of the best restaurants we've visited in the Basque country.

Based on the reviews I was expecting to be blown away. It was fine. The dish I ordered was a bit underwhelming. I think this restaurant focuses the recipe around a signature vegetable, but it wasn’t very complex. I also find it frustrating when protein isn’t always added to the meal. The waitstaff is very friendly and hospitable.

Orburu is only open for four days a week. There's Eneko the owner whoe's the chef and his partner. Eneko has worked at a number of top vegetarian/ vegan restaurants in the U.K. the food was varied, intresting and a great taste sensation. Wine selection wasn't huge but was good. One not to miss

The owners of the orburu Taberna are absolutely friendly and give advices on the menu. It was possible to get smaller plates, so you can taste more, that was fantastic. The food was great fulfilling.

Got goosebumps when I ate there! For me the best food experience during my two weeks vacation in basque country. Also the staff was very nice, even when I'm not sure how good they understood English. They also had an English menu and a detailed list about allergens so it was easy to find out, which dishes were vegan. Highly recommended!

In beautiful San Sebastian in the Basque Region of Spain is this must-try vegetarian gem. Down a few steps in a beautiful stone and wood space in the heart of San Sebastian. Staff was wonderful and friendly, they have English menus upon request. Seasonal veg used in all of the dishes. We started with mixed olives and beer. And then we each had a smooth and creamy beetroot and old sheep's cheese croqueta. I had a fantastic tomato and peach salad with cucumber and avocado gazpacho and my husband had the roasted carrots, baba ganush, breadcrumb, pickled fennel and feta cheese dish. We both loved our dishes, the service, the space...it was fantastic. Can't miss this one, you guys! Vegetarian or vegan-they have a beautiful menu that you must try!

Best meal we’ve had in San Sebastián. Excellent customer service, even the chef came from the kitchen to explain the menu as the waiter didn’t speak English. Both guys were extremely friendly and asked several times if everything was okay. The food itself was excellent - full of flavour and nicely presented. Chocolate cake with banana sorbet and peanut butter was to die for!
