Could be bumped up from "veg friendly"

Really this place is vegetarian with a fish dish every so often. Calling it "veg friendly" is misleading. Amsterdam has a horrible trend in "casual eating" where all the food is put out and what you order is then microwaved in front of you (often in plastic containers) ie foodware, Uliveto, Today's Italian, and many more. At least Olive and Cookie reheats the food stovetop or in the oven. The food itself is high quality. The husband and wife team (only one works at a time while the other is with their child) are very sweet and part of the neighborhood (have seen the husband out teaching their kid how to ride a bike). A little on the expensive side (not super expensive but for me I can't eat there too often) but mainly because you want to try multiple things. Quite possibly the best appeltaart in Amsterdam, despite every cafe making an attempt at appeltaart, it usually lacks everything. The roasted root vegetables are great, but easily duplicated at home. The savory tarts are the best part (pear and goat cheese; polenta and sundried tomato, etc) and worth trying.

Inspiring and delicious food

At Olive and Cookie, the food is simply fantastic ! Freshly cooked, tasty dishes of mediterranean, asian or european inspiration that can vary from day to day. The kind of recipes you would love to try at home. The chef obviously loves his work. He takes the time to explain each dish if asked. The restaurant itself is very small. Simple but warm decoration.Don't come there if you are in a hurry. A sign mentions "take it slow" and the chef means it. My advice : try a big plate with a little of everything. You won't regret your visit at Olive and Cookie, it's a must !

Pros: excellent food, cheap, friendly atmosphere
