Late and not even cooked

30 min after ordering our bowls, the waiter told us that they didn’t have sweet potato, so we ordered potato instead. Another 40 min later, the bowls arrived. Unfortunately not only the portion size was disappointing, but all the ingredients were tasteless. The tofu not properly fried without any spices, the grilled pepper not grilled or cooked, mushrooms out of the can and so on. Moreover, it was the most expensive meal we had in one month Sri Lanka.
The waiter apologized but we still paid the full amount for something we didn’t order.
Juices were nice though and the dining area very fancy.

Pros: Kind waiter

Cons: Expensive, Tasteless food

Great burrito bowl and chocolate cake

The menu isn't entirely vegetarian or vegan but there were a number of options. Milkshakes could also be made with non dairy milk for a 40% markup. I had a vegan burrito bowl and a slice of vegan chocolate cake and both were super tasty!

Only a view vegan options

They have just a view vegan options. Soy- and Almond-milk where both not available....besides fruits they don’t have a vegan desert.

I had the black bean burger which was delicious...but they should implement more options!

Vegan Breakfast Hoppers

We arrived at Cafe Nuga quite early in the morning, which meant we were too early for the burrito bowl others have complimented.

I’m happy, however, that this meant that I had the opportunity to try a Sri Lankan style dish - Vegan Chickpea Hoppers. The hoppers reminded me a bit of dosas. They were served in a bowl shape (three in total) with bowls of chickpea curry, dahl and coconut sambol on the side. Delicious!

The coffee we had was very well made and the cafe itself is very attractive. They were also selling a very nice looking vegan chocolate cake, but I was unfortunately too full from the hoppers.

Pros: Good range or vegan-friendly options., Attractive cafe.

Cons: Not fully vegan., Not fully veggie.

Nice place for vegan and perfect location

Not completely vegan but lots of choice. I had the green juice (not the best but maybe because I asked without sugar) and the vegan burrito bowl, very tasty and full of vegetables!! It is a big plate and there is even more than it is written: broccoli, spinach, sweet potatoes, rice, salad, tomatoes, tofu, chickpeas, mushrooms, corn and pineapple besides.
Furthermore the place is perfect between the National Museum and Gangaramaya, easily walking there.

Pros: Many vegan options, Welcoming, Perfect location besides highlights

Cons: Expensive for low budget

Deceptive breakfast menu

breakfast menu options indicated almond & soy milk available, when ordering I was informed only dairy milk is available. Went to cafe Kumbuk instead

Cons: No dairy alternatives available on breakfast menu

Trying hard with vegan options but not there yet

Ok, I do eat here fairly often but it's because the burrito bowl is AWESOME (its huge as well, I have it for 2 meals). They also do a really good vegan chocolate cake. They also give free garlic bread but it's not vegan so remember to tell them you dont want it.

The other vegan menu items:
The hummus platter - would be good if there was more hummus! Otherwise it's just a heap of raw veg.
The peking tofu wrap - is nice but they wrap it in a way which makes the filling all fall out.
The grilled veg platter - needs some more seasoning or sauces - half a grilled cabbage really isn't great.
The noodle bowl thing - like a Pho but lacking any real flavour, just vegies in veg stock.
The vegan burger - pretty awful. the patty is salty, the bread is dry and it just fell apart.
The tofu pizza thing - would be awesome if they changed the brand of tofu - they currently use a brand that smells funny and has a super weird aftertaste.

Anyway, they are LOVELY in there and they do try hard, they are going in the right direction with vegan options it's just the flavours aren't there yet. I still go weekly though as I love that burrito bowl and I'm keen to try their vegan breakfast soon.

Pros: The vegan burrito bowl is amazing, chocolate cake, the staff are excellent

Cons: The taste of the vegan dishes isnt amazing, they dont have a vegan garlic bread option, parking isnt good
