Not bad - Edit
They actually have a vegan menu, which is rare for the area. It was a treat to have actually crispy vegan chicken. We had pie and peas too which, again was quite a treat but just ok. Probably one of the best vegan places in the area but there’s only so much fried food you can eat. Definitely worth a visit though.

In Cod’s Name, Avoid This Plaice - Edit
Having been away from the UK for so long, the need for an authentic chippy was very real, and, this being a seaside locale, I assumed it would be the ideal place to scratch this particular culinary itch.
Read moreI don’t know what was more surprising: the range of clearly marked plant-based options or the prices that accompanied them. With my stomach having already firmly decided that this was the sustenance it demanded, my brain (and soul) were powerless to dissuade it, so I somewhat begrudgingly made my way in and ordered what would have to be an exemplary spread of dishes to justify the outlay.
From the moment the plates arrived at the table, any notion of this being remotely worth the expense vanished quicker than a snowflake in the desert. Miserly would be a compliment when referring to the number of chips I was presented with; the gravy pot that dominated the plate occupied a huge amount of real estate that could easily have been given over to more of the key component. Crestfallen by their meagre quantity, I sought solace in the fact that they would at least be impeccable to the taste. Despairingly, this was not to be. Bland, drab, limp, and lifeless, even liberal applications of condiments failed to lift them to anything approaching acceptable.
I will happily concede that the battered sausages were above average and admit that the gravy at least had a decent consistency, but it was still found wanting in terms of depth and flavour.
The last bastion of hope lay with the pie, yet one stab at its flabby exterior told me all I needed to know. At least the peas just about cut the mustard, although that really should be a given rather than something worthy of celebration.
My advice? Steer well clear of what is plainly a tourist trap trading on the pretence of being a legitimately traditional chip shop. I find it astounding that this place has garnered such glowing reviews. Perhaps I’m simply too critical, but I can only judge honestly by what I found, and that was a meal that left a great deal to be desired.

Lovely burger - Edit
Fish restaurant with a good amount of vegan options, just no vegan fish unfortunately. Wish I’d got a sauce with the burger but really tasty all the same!

Traditional but vegan - Edit
This is a traditional fish and chips restaurant, but they offer a few vegan choices, which is so great!
Read moreMy husband had the steak and onion pie and absolutely loved it. He was happy to be able to have a meal like that during our holiday.
I had the battered sausages and they were not my favourite, but that‘s because I don‘t really like fake meat and dishes like that. I‘m sure the sausages were good if you like that kind of thing!
The staff were lovely and the restaurant is spacious and bright.

Pros: Veganised traditional dishes, Good location, Friendly staff
Cons: No vegan options apart from fake meat

Great options - Watch out for dairy butter! - Edit
We chose to sit in, and went for the battered sausages / 'chicken' burger & chips.
Read moreBoth really nice, although the burger had no salad / sauce, just a dry bun.
They also brought us bread with dairy butter (not something we asked for, they seem to bring it to everyone)... When we asked if they had dairy free spread, the waiter didn't understand and thought we were asking for gluten free. They didn't have any dairy free spread.
Pros: Pleasant staff, Several options
Cons: Some staff weren't aware of what vegan spread was, No dairy free spread

Great options at this fish n chip restaurant - Edit
I mean I am not sure I even had battered sausage before being veggie let alone vegan so this was a real treat. We had the battered sausage and ch*cken strips and shared. Portions were huge so could have probably got the kids portion of strips.
Read more6 vegan choices at a fish n chip restaurant amazing!
They also had soya milk for the accompanying pot of tea!

Great fish and chip restaurant - Edit
In the town centre, a clean modern restaurant with quick service and friendly staff. Decent vegan section on the menu. We had the pie and sausage options, both of which were very good and couldn't be faulted. We also had a pot of tea, soya or oat milk available.

Choice in a chippy! - Edit
A traditional fish and chip restaurant so if you’re with friends/family who aren’t vegan then you’re all good. It was awesome. There was a choice of 5 vegan main meals (and I noticed the kid’s menu also had a vegan option so they won’t have to just have chips). I had a massive meal of a vegan minced ‘meat’ pie with chips mushy peas and vegan gravy. It was delicious..

Would return - Edit
First came here in June 2023 but forgot to review and add photos. That time we had vegan fish n chips. Came back in June 2024 and had the sausages, gravy and extra mushy peas; and the chickn strips w extra mushy peas. Liked the little vegan flags on the food! Liked the fact that the chickn strips included salad!

Best chippy in Seahouses - Edit
We holiday in Northumberland regularly and Neptune’s has been a family favourite for years. We’re all shades of veggie/vegan so great to have somewhere that uses veg oil. Mushy peas are lovely! They’ve also started offering several vegan options including vegan fish - can confirm it is delicious!

Lots of vegan options! - Edit
Menu now includes several vegan options (pie, sausage, “fish”, “chicken” and a veggie burger). I asked if they had non-dairy milk for tea. They didn’t have any, so I ordered a black coffee, but a staff member went out to get some and the milk appeared! I then ordered a tea and they deducted the price of the coffee from the bill without me asking :). Food was excellent and our non-vegan companions agreed.
