Was a regular for the great vegan food, will not be going back after being stopped coming out of the bathroom by the owner - Edit
To be clear: the food here is great! I was a regular and have probably been six or seven times this year. As a vegan, I loved having so much choice and brought friends from all parts of my life here at every opportunity. The pictures are from a few of my visits!
Read moreHowever, last night, I had an unpleasant experience when stopped by the owner as I came out of the bathroom (there is a short corridor between the bathrooms and the restaurant).
He was very kind at first, thanking me for my repeated patronage, but the way he confirmed my name from the booking by using my first name AND surname made me uncomfortable.
He asked where I lived, worked, and how old I was, and if the man I was seated with (I was sat with a group of friends, who I had said twice this evening, when asked, were my friends) was my partner. I truthfully said he was not, and was then asked if I had a partner, to which I truthfully said I did.
The owner believed I had not brought him to the restaurant, which was strange, because most of my friends are men, so I had been with at least one man on every visit, and I said that I had brought him here on our second date, which I had. I complimented the food again, eager to end the interaction, when the owner said, "We're friends, right? We're friendly."
We were friendly - in the way that a repeat customer and the owner of a restaurant are. He insisted I give him my number, and my number was on the booking, so it made no odds if I did or didn't - so I did. I truthfully said that my phone was on the table, so I had to get back to add the number, and he smiled and shook my hand.
I, as (regrettably) almost any woman can empathise with, remained smiling and agreeable throughout this interaction because I felt unsafe having been stopped coming out of the bathroom at the quiet end of the restaurant. This did not mean that I was comfortable. This did not mean that I wanted to share personal details. This did not mean that I wanted to give out my number.
I hope the owner sees this and, going forward, does not approach customers - especially women coming out of the bathroom - to ask where they live and work, how old they are, if they have a partner, and for their phone number.
This review is not intended to paint the owner in any particular light, which is why I have only set out the facts and my own feelings, rather than making an accusations about his intentions. If his intentions were genuinely innocent, then I am glad, but I hope my perspective of the

The food was lovely. We ordered lots of smaller plates so we could try as many things as we could. But we were still stuffed as the portions were quite big.

We definitely be going back.
Food is slightly more money but the portion sizes are massive.

Best Indian meal - Edit
Indian is one of the things I’ve really missed since becoming vegan, now there is no need to miss out. The food was superb, the service was excellent and the atmosphere was great. Wide range of veggie food, most of which can be made vegan, plus loads of purely vegan options. The owner made a point of coming over to give advice about how best to enjoy one of the dishes which made it all the better. We will be back here many times I suspect.
