Good restaurant, better desserts! - Edit
This is a good lunch and dinner restaurant with classic Japanese cuisine. They have a great omurice and curry. The menu is a bit limited but what they have is full of flavour. The desserts are amazing with loads of strawberry’s and tiramisu.

The food is delicious here. We had the mumokuteki 3 kinds-Gozen, seasonal cheesecake and the Yuba omelette. Omg everything was delicious. My favorites were the seasonal cheesecake and the Yuba omelette. The seasonal cheesecake got better with each bite and it's the only vegan cheesecake I've had that actually tastes like the real cheesecake.

Just okay… - Edit
Got the hamburger & tofu Katsu meal set since I saw so many people recommended it. I gotta say, it was just okay.
Read moreThe hamburger and Katsu itself was good, along with the salad it’s on. Besides that, alllll the unnecessary sides didn’t compliment the meal and was just okay. The soup was cold and poorly made. The weird veggie juice shot was a cup full of pulp and needed to be chewed though.
I don’t think it’s worth the price. Definitely recommend going elsewhere.

Amazing vegan restaurant - Edit
I had the tofu/okra steak cutlet plate with many sides, and everything was delicious. My friend had the mystery curry and loved it. The chai tea was also really good. I highly recommend this place if you are visiting Kyoto.

Fast and Delicious - Edit
Came here half an hour before opening and browsed through their clothing and goods shop downstairs. There is a waiting area before the restaurant opens upstairs.
Read moreI think I sat down at 11:30, ordered a few minutes later and I had food by 11:42! I debated a set menu, but then I saw the omurice with yuba and had to try. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a vegan omurice before that doesn’t use egg replacer.
The omurice was delicious! At first I thought it was just a yellow sauce but there are bits of the most delicate yuba in there! It really does mimic the most barely cooked eggs. The rice seemed like ketchup rice. The mushroom demiglaze was pretty good, not too salty.
I saw the set menus coming out really quickly too! I had debated the fried okara in the trio set, but I’m super happy with the omurice. I could’ve ordered dessert but your check comes immediately after you order and I was too lazy to ask what the seasonal cheesecake flavor was.
Definitely recommend! They seemed popular as well.

So good, I had it twice! - Edit
I visited Mumokuteki twice when I was in Kyoto. They get busy so make sure to make a reservation online ahead of time! (or you’ll be waiting downstairs with a ticket number). As soon as I saw the meal set, I had to try it! Though after looking at the menu and seeing that they had omurice, that solidified my choice that we had to go back. I was impressed with the flavours and the quality of food. Really close to the market and shopping district.

Lovely meal in Kyoto - Edit
The restaurant is quite busy so we had to wait for maybe 10 minutes but it was absolutely worth it. The food here is fantastic. They offer a small selection of main dishes including ramen, an omelette, and Japanese lunch sets with your choice of karaage, cutlet or hamburger (all vegan of course). The drinks and desserts are also worth trying. Would absolutely recommend. Nice location near various shops in Kyoto.

Good tiramisu - Edit
We had the tiramisu and the soy milk strawberry. I liked the Tiramisu, but my partner was a little more critical. The strawberry soy milk was frozen, and even the strawberry on top was frozen, so it wasnt as enjoyable as I wished it to be. The ice as it had a light strawberry flavour, but no flavor beneath that.

One of my favorite vegan restaurants in Japan - Edit
I really loved Mumokuteki. The staff is very friendly, the food is great and it's in a nice, central location. Some of the staff know a bit of English so there wasn't any problem ordering. I got the "3 kinds of special set meal" so it had a little of everything. It was all really tasty, especially the fried okara surprisingly. It's just an overall really great meal and you get to try so many different foods. This is a winner for sure and I would love to come back.

Parfait was ok but not what I was expecting - Edit
I couldn’t resist a tiramisu dessert, the first since I’ve been in Japan. I also had an iced soy latte which was nice and strong. My partner had the cheesecake and a strawberry milkshake.
Read moreThe tiramisu parfait looked amazing. The piece of tiramisu slice was delicious. The soft serve, which I had been looking forward to, was very icy and didn’t taste like other soy soft serve I’ve had. It wasn’t creamy. The berries seemed to be frozen too. It was ok, the sauce was fine, but I was expecting more for 1300 yen.
My partner said he cheesecake was ok and same for the milkshake.
The setting is nice and the staff are kind. The other meals that came out looked amazing but I would recommend getting dessert elsewhere.Perhaps they are premade and they need to leave them out to defrost a bit longer.

A must visit - Edit
The staff and atmosphere are great - a truly authentic Japanese experience. I had the mumokuteki 3 kind set and it was so filling but so tasty (the miso cutlets stood out for me) but I couldn’t help but finish the lot. I’ll definitely be back for the omuraisu and some of the desserts

Great vegan set - Edit
The protein options were great(the cutlets and okarage were my favorite, but some of the sides weren’t for me as they had a flavor that reminded me of tuna, which I didn’t like even before going vegan. Though I was seated quickly, the food took a while to come out. On the bright side, they offer a variety of desserts, which I loved. The seasonal cheesecake, in particular, was one of the best vegan cheesecakes I've had!

Nice cafe but beware if you are the last sitting - Edit
We booked for the last 'tea' sitting at 1630. When we arrived a sign said it was closed so we waited in the area that said staff would come to greet us. Our mistake as we were meant to go upstairs past the closed sign. We ordered two of the large plates which were tasty enough and then went to order dessert but by that point the kitchen was closed. Again, our fault as we had not realised. The entire time the staff were cleaning round about us so it felt like we were in welcome. It was nice but we had better experiences in other restaurants.
