In these unprecedented times (do conventional times even exist anymore?!), one of the few plus points is the deals to be found in a multitude of hotels up and down the land. Making the most of one such staycation offer, I got the rare opportunity to do a double-header in this restaurant, taking in their dinner and their breakfast services. The difference, in both the literal and figurative sense, was night and day.
Read moreWhile there was certainly nothing inherently wrong with the evening offerings, there was still ample selection and a few noteworthy dishes – the loubia bi zeit and ratatouille, to be precise – but it was quite evident that, because of the low occupancy levels, they weren’t operating at full tilt.
As for the morning, though still clearly holding some things in reserve, it was up there with some of the most impressive spreads that I have been privy to.
With choices aplenty, all of an unquestionable calibre, I genuinely felt giddy as I careened through the various stations.
Given the depth of brilliance, choosing one particular item to highlight as a favourite seems a little unfair, yet there was one standout that I simply found irresistible: the aloo bonda. At this point, I have to extend my condolences to my fellow diners on that day, as whether they even knew these addictively delicious balls of wonderfulness were even available, such was the voraciousness with which I snapped them up. I would love to say that I was sorry, but in my heart of hearts, I’m not.
As aforementioned, the weight of the regional problems bore down on this experience slightly, but if this is what they can produce in such trying circumstances, I cannot wait to see what they can conjure up with shackles off.
