Bad sushi rolls - Edit
Hate to give a bad review to restaurants with vegan options but its a tourist trap. We went to the Sushi rolls Moon and back. The "rolls" are 1 inch sushi piece filled with so much lettuce and a little piece of tofu/mushroom/whatever else flavor you chose. 3 sushi pieces and 4 little shumai (these were good) cost me more than 2300. One piece was supposed to have avocado and only had lettuce : they gave me another one after i told them. My husband ate some dumplings and they were really bland. Do yourself a favor and go try the multiple good vegan restaurants in the neighborhood!

The best vegan ramen!! - Edit
Loved the vegan ramen here, very clear labelling on the menu about what was vegan. Sat at the bar & watched them make it.

Weird experience - Edit
The menu is very limited and most non vegans are ordering the raw Wagyu beef ramen that gets blowtorched table side and makes the small restaurant fill up with meat air. The non Japanese employees pretended to only speak Japanese for the first 3/4 then they switched to English. We’re Japanese but it was a very weird experience and we will never come back.

Weird experience - Edit
I went here with several members of my family recently. There was a white guy with the name tag “Yuta” who pretended to not speak English for 3/4 of the meal. My dad and brother are full Japanese and he just acknowledged them, speaking in Japanese. We asked for a couple items for my little nephews and the non Japanese people working ignored us most of the time. It felt like they were pretending to not be fluent in English as well. It was such a weird vibe. The only employee who made the dining experience pleasant was called Ami.
Read moreThe air smells like beef inside because they table side torch raw meat on ramen, which was the most commonly ordered item in the restaurant. I will never go here again.
Pros: Location
Cons: Weird servers, Meat air

So good! - Edit
Really good ramen and the tofu was so soft and delicious. We had the spicy option and creamy and both were really good. Also had the dim sum and teriyaki tofu - again both so good!

Tasty Vegan Ramen - Edit
There are two vegan options. Chose the gluten free one with tofu. Very good ramen. Good ambience, with Australian references. I would reccommend this place for a good vegan ramen

Few vegan options - Edit
My partner and I each tried a vegan ramen, there’s also some vegan small plates to choose from. The ramen was ok, the broth was slightly too thick for our liking and the sesame was overpowering. Decent option if you’re in the area though.

Fantastic Vegan Ramen - Edit
We had tried many different Raman places within our first week stay in Kyoto, then I came across Moon and Back Ramen. It was a fantastic vegan ramen, and was great because my husband was also able to get a great non vegan ramen too! We felt this was one of the best ones we had tried so far!

Spicy vegan ramen was amazing. Looks like it is a chain, I noticed this restaurant in Osaka as well but couldn’t go there. Will definitely go back again during my stay in Kyoto.

Guter scharfer Ramen - Edit

Amazing meal - Nishiki Market Alley by Moon and Back - Edit
Moon and Back was full, so we went to their new location 5 minutes away at the end of Nishiki Market. It was the best meal we’ve had in Japan, and up there with the best meal we’ve had EVER! Amazing vegetarian and vegan options, with plenty for our meat eating companions too. Thanks for a truly excellent meal - great amount of seating, impeccable vibes and fabulous staff! Don’t skip dessert, it was the perfect finish.

Okey place - Edit
Did not try the ramen, which I think is what most people will be looking for. But there are a few clearly marked options throughout the menu. Inari and teriyaki tofu were fine.

Why was my ramen looking like a stir fry 😭 - Edit
I read reviews and was so excited but I didn’t even use my spoon for my ramen there was no soup. I hope it was just a bad night because other photos look so great. Flavour was still yum but not at all what I’d hoped for when ordering spicy ramen. Steamed veg underwhelming too I’m sorry 😭😭😭😭😭😭

Good Ramen but... - Edit
Went here with a friend who can NOT handle spice. We both ordered the non spicy ramen and both got the spicy one! I told the waiter about the mistake, he apologized and said that he will remake it and throw away the ones we just got. I hate wasting food so we ate the spicy ones...
Read moreTastewise it was really good and they seemed to feel sorry for my friend that looked like he was dying from the spice and god us a small bowl of their non-spicy soup to thin out the other one.
We also got the Inari as starters. I often get the Inari from Gyomu Suupa and these ones were the exact same (looks, size, shape, taste...).
We were seated at the bar directry in front of the box with raw fish inside and opposite the stove so the smell of raw and cooked fish and meat was rather intense.
The ice cream was really good!
Everything was rather expensive and there was not one Japanese customer in the store!
Cons: Wrong order, Smell of raw fish, Rather expensive

Vegan Ramen and Lots of Side Options as well! - Edit
The vegan spicy ramen was a little too spicy for me, but the taste was incredible! They had 2 different vegan ramens and lots of vegan sides, including dumplings and vegan sashimi. Branding of this place is cute and they also have lots of fun drinks! A touch on the expensive side, but good!

Cons: Would love a non-creamy ramen!
