Selection of vegan options - Edit
Update Sept 2026: I went again, and was a bit disappointed this time that they had fewer ready made vegan options, and the few that are available were rather expensive. It also wasn’t always clear if items were vegan (eg some of the fresh breads). They still have the vegan rubicon cupcakes though, so that’s worth the visit!
Read morePrevious assessment, maybe the one visit was just a fluke: The perfect place to stop along the 101: they have standard brand vegan fare, many bulk options, as well as their own unique selection of sandwiches, salads, baked goods, and treats. The cupcakes and muffins from Rubicon bakery were the special treat during this stop: yummy and great consistency.

Rubicon cupcakes! - Edit
This was the first time in years that I wasn’t impressed by this market. They don’t have some of the things I used to get there like the natural red vines and the great vegan baked goods and deli items. The deli selection was not very interesting and was massively expensive for tiny portions. The fresh breads were also super expensive and they all had enzymes or sour dough culture and didn’t say whether they were vegan. They still have the Rubicon cupcakes, which are totally amazing, especially the lemon raspberry. That is basically all I will be going back for.

Delicious Sandwiches!! - Edit
Mariposa Market had many different vegan options from drinks, bagels, sandwiches, and soups. They are based in an organic store and sell a variety of vegan foods as well. I got a yummy made-to-order vegan sandwich which was delicious.

Yummy sandos from the deli! - Edit
Lots of vegan groceries throughout the store: frozen vegan roasts, vegan cheeses, vegan chocolates, etc. We got sandos from the deli. There was vegan Mayo and cheese. Try the Mendocino mustard…it’s so good! We got one sando with tempeh and one with the bbq tofu…the bbq tofu was the winner. The tempeh was good but it wasn’t seasoned at all, so be aware of that.

Great deli and store - Edit
We usually stop here on the way to or from camping in Mendocino county. The store offers tons of healthy and vegan options- think Whole Foods before Bezos acquired it. The deli is awesome- offers veganaise, bbq tofu (highly recommend), tempeh, vegan cheese and tons of other options to make a yummy sandwich or wrap.

Good custom sandwiches from the deli - Edit
We stopped in search of a quick lunch on our drive back from Redwood NP. They had a very vegan friendly custom sandwich menu at their deli. They had a few vegenaise options, lots of veggies, and several good breads to choose from. They had tempeh, veggie burgers, BBQ tofu, and portobello mushrooms as the protein/main options but were out of veggie burgers and tempeh on the day we ordered. I substituted curried tofu and it was excellent. They also had a vegan soup and vegan wrap that I didn't get to try. The market has a lot of pre-made vegan friendly options and tons of snacks.
