Delicious food & drinks

Had a lovely time at Maruchou-K last evening, the owner was super lovely and all we ordered was delicious and filling. We had to wait for maybe 10 minutes to be seated as the owner was working alone but we were happy to do so. If there’s a sign on the door that says CLOSED, all in red, don’t immediately panic like we did, it will just be a few minutes for her to bus some tables and it’s worth the wait.

I had the soy milk ramen (with subbed glass noodles to make it vegan) which had a nice mild heat and was very flavourful, with a generous heap of various chopped and fried mushrooms on top. My husband had the aubergines in chilli sauce with medium rice and was very happy with it as well. We also shared the fries seasoned with seaweed and concluded that seaweed literally goes with everything.

Would definitely recommend the Chinese apricot wine (tastes like an umeshu liqueur neat with an apricot twist) and the fragrant olive wine which I had mixed with soda, really fabulous. Will probably come back again as vegan options are a little more limited in Kanazawa.

Edit: we went back the following night and found a different closed sign (out of ingredients) but I cheekily poked my head in and asked if vegetarian might still be ok and she seated us anyway! There was only a small serving of rice left and the mushroom heap wasn’t quite as generous but she fed two hungry vegans delicious food and I was very thankful.

Cute Chinese restaurant

Clearly labelled vegan and vegetarian options. The owner even indicated without prompting that a special dessert not from the regular menu was vegetarian only, not vegan.
The food was really lovely and she even uses vegan cheese!

Chinese restaurant ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

small restaurant run by its owner. very pleasant atmosphere. They have a menu with vegan and vegetarian options. We tried the eggplant with chilly sauce and the ramen and everything was delicious. It is necessary to order one dish plus drink or two small dishes per person.

Pros: Many vegan options

The nice owner directly asked us if we were vegetarian. So we instantly got the vegetarien/vegan menu. We chose the soymilk ramen and it was very tasty! The staff doesn't speak english but this was no problem. Very friendly!

Delicious, vegan-friendly small business

Lovely home cooked Chinese cuisine made to a Japanese flavour palette. Explicitly vegan friendly if you ask for the vegan menu, and the owner took a second to check when my vegetarian husband ordered something nonvegan.

The owner speaks little English, but a polite and friendly attitude will get you an excellent meal.

Pros: Great food, Friendly, welcoming atmosphere , Unique experience

Unlike anything I’ve ever tasted

The soymilk ramen is a must-try for the more adventurous vegetarians and vegans. Reminded me simultaneously of Japanese ramen and fettuccine alfredo and had tons of different kinds of mushrooms plus a delicious sichuan pepper oil.

Pros: Very knowledgeable about veg and vegan, Very unique food, Whole separate vegetarian menu

They have a fully vegetarian/vegan and translated menu, don't speak much English but they understand vegan/vegetarian perfectly. Great price for a huge bowl of delicious ramen!

Chinese cuisine, really nice

Came to this restaurant following some of the pics and reviews by other vegan fellows in the app. We didn’t realise they serve Chinese cuisine and not Japanese, but the food was of course amazing. Vegetarian / vegan menu on request. Customers must purchase at least x2 items to be able to dine in (ie: a fizzy drink and a dish). Ask for the extra chilli oil if you are a spicy food lover. Amazing!

Pros: Fairly central (or walkable), Variety of vegan dishes, Lovely atmosphere

Cons: Not Japanese, but Chinese cuisine (not a problem)

Really good vegetarian/vegan Chinese food

The shop is pretty small. We went to eat there twice, because Kanazawa has few vegetarian alternatives. Both times the food was really good!
The owner cooks on her own though, so preparing and cooking will take some time.

Pros: Separate vegan/vegetarian menu in english, Lots of options

Cons: Preparing the meal takes long

Rundum gut

Great soy milk ramen and more!

HappyCow doesn’t allow five stars vor non-vegetarian places but this restaurant deserves them. Cosy little place with a great vegetarian/vegan menu. We had the aubergine and the soy milk ramen (vegan option with glass noodles). Both were really good and the ramen can definitely compete with the ones we had in Kyoto or Tokyo. Glad we found this!

Pros: Vegetarian/vegan menu, Great ramen, Great value for money

Cons: None

Loved it

I would have put 5 stars if Happy cow allowed me. I took the fried potatoes with nori, the aubergine and rice. It was all super tasty and comforting. I wish I tried this place before my last day so I could come back.

Pros: Tasty vegan options, Cosy atmosphere, Separate veg menu

One of the best!

One of the best meals of our holiday - completely unexpected! We shared the soymilk ramen, eggplant in chilli sauce and the stir-fry veggies with tofu - all delicious. The eggplant dish was my favourite. Would recommend them all. The owner asked straightaway if we we veggie/vegan and then brought us the special menu. She took so much care preparing and serving the food and overall just a great experience. Hard to find from the outside so look carefully - worth it!

Cash only so come prepared.

Delicious soy ramen

Every dish we ordered was exceptional - we had the soy ramen, the tomatoey aubergine with rice, and the fried vegetables with tofu. The host lady was very helpful and explained us what the vegan options are. Also cheaper than your average japanese cafe/restaurant. Highly recommend!

Pros: One of the best vegan ramen, Nice host, Affordable

Good options!

It's a good place to come eat, especially as options are limited in Kanazawa. Has about 12 seats, so not the biggest place.

Pros: Has English vegetarian menu, Friendly and accommodating

Pros: Sabor , Precio, Autenticidad

Cons: Ubicación , Idioma , Lentitud

Pros: Sabor, Casero, Precio

Cons: Idioma, Lentos, Espacio pequeño

Good find.

Had the soy milk ramen with glass noodles, which could have done with a little more depth/flavour. But I liked it. And then had the spicy aubergine. That was delicious. Service great. Would return.

Warm and Delicious

Although the staff doesn’t speak any English (there’s even a sign on the door saying they don’t but will try their best), we had no trouble communicating our needs. There’s a dedicated vegetarian menu with clearly marked vegan options, and boy are those options tasty! We had fried potatoes with seaweed salt, spring rolls, eggplant with tomato sauce and vegan cheeze, and one each of the soy milk ramen and mushroom ramen. Maybe we were cold and hungry, or maybe the food was that good, but we devoured everything with gusto! You do need to order two things per person off the menu, but why wouldn’t you when the food’s this good??

Pros: Warm and hearty options, Knowledgeable staff

Cons: Staff don’t speak English

Enjoyable dinner near Higashi Chaya Gai

We enjoyed our dinner which included spring rolls, chips with sea vegetable on top, hot spicy fried noodles and fried noodles with vegetables in thick sauce. The spring rolls were outstanding and everything was enjoyable. There was an English menu from which we could indicate what we wanted with limited Japanese.
Watch your head if you’re tall and use the bathroom, the doorway is very low...

Pretty much a fail

1. Is not japanese but mixed with chinese or smt
2. Youre forced to order minimum 2 dishes per person
3. Not really good food in general. Specially DONT CHOOSE the fried noodles probably u can cook it much better yourself

Pros: Vegan menu

Cons: No good food, Kinda expensive, At least 2 orders per person
