Still thinking about this Chai Latte weeks later… - Edit
I think I said “wow” after every sip! How was it that delicious? You won’t regret ordering this hot chai latte.
Read moreThe tofu burger looks plain/ normal… BUT, the flavor was incredible! I have to say I was pleasantly surprised with everything I ordered. I got the sandwich and other pastries for takeout for the next day. Layered sandwich was also so tasty. I was really happy with both main entrées. They only have those 2 options.
In local residential neighborhood, no tourists. Moms and kids came in after I ordered. They seemed to be regulars and the owner and her staff were so welcoming to them. They were also friendly with me and we chatted a bunch.
There are two prices on the menu here because there is a membership you can buy for café, if you decide you’ll come here often. I just paid the non-membership prices.
Wear cute socks here! No holes. Haha. Must remove shoes before entering.

Cosy little place - Edit

Edit

Cozy Vegan Bakery Cafe as community space as well. - Edit
How can I describe this place? I knew owner for years but never been visited… It was beautiful as she is. Korean style interior with sitting floor (maru), and regular sittings and private room. She baked small amount but various breads continuously.
Read moreCustomer range is wide. All vegan but the space and her efforts for years made everyone to feel so comfortable to visit & enjoy vegan menu w/out any huddles here.
I was truly impressed. And fell in love.

Underappreciated Cafe - Edit
A lot of focus on traditional drinks and ingredients here. All the sweets and drinks we had were delicious and healthy. The interior is very cozy. Staff was incredibly friendly and there are obvious efforts to reduce waste. Pricing was very fair.
Read moreHas options of both floor and table seating.
We had a blueberry cake, carrot cake, chai, and daechu tea (jujube) 대추차. Would recommend all of them

If only I could give more than 5 stars - Edit
I instantly fell in love with this cute cafe. As soon as you walk through the door, it's like entering a whole different world. There's soft disney instrumentals and homey seating.
Read moreThe owner is super sweet and you can tell this is a regular spot for locals.
The tofu burger was so flavorful with lots of different components. And the fermented lemon tea was amazing - probably because you can see the jugs of fermenting lemons around the cafe!
There's a small store section that sells some zero waste goods and local art.
The prices for everything are pretty reasonable, I would say even relatively low, for the quality of product.
All around lovely place. I wish I would have found it sooner!

Charming vegan cafe - Edit
What can I say? This cafe is a warm, friendly, lovely place to grab some Korean tea and a slice of vegan cake. It's located outside of the central Seoul area, so be prepared for a bit if a journey. After strolling through a non-descript entrance and huffing it up a flight of stairs, take off your shoes, walk inside and relax while sipping a warm drink. The owner is a very nice woman and the atmosphere of the cafe is calm and inviting. In such a busy city where everyone is rushing around, it's refreshing to find a cafe like Maju Story.

Quiet and peaceful cafe - Edit
If you want to get a moment of quietness far from the hustle bustle of Seoul, have tea & cake at Maju. The café is on the 2nd floor, surrounded by books and artisanal soaps. The owner is knowledgeable about the origin of her products and the choice of cakes and beverages will satisfy everyone.
Read moreI had a bingsoo, a chai and mugwort cake (gluten free).
- The bingsoo was topped with a scoop shaped red bean paste, the thin ice flakes were melting in mouth and it was not overly sweet. Compared to other bingsoo you can try at chains, you can clearly notice the quality of the ingredients used here. No useless sugar taste in mouth.
- chaï: the best one I had in Korea. Spicy, earthy, comforting. Would be great on a rainy day.
- mugwort cake: delicious. Again like the bingsoo, not sugary which made the taste of mugwort more fragrant.
Make sure to check the hours on their Instagram to make sure you do not find closed doors.
Worth the trip all the way from the city.
Pros: Quality , Super kind owner, Quiet

Like Home! - Edit
This cafe makes me feel at home.
Read moreRight from the start!
At first, you take off your shoes before entering. Behind the door, you find a bright room offering chairs as well as cushions on the floor, allowing you to choose the type of seating you feel most comfortable with. The room's wooden interior is decorated with postcards and books. Cushions and curtains are held in plain, subtle colors. Natural materials. Hand-written menu. It smells of wood, tea and sometimes bakery fresh from the oven.
It seems like a space for people from the neighborhood to either study quietly or gather for conversations. In general, there's a calm, peaceful atmosphere which is occasionally enlivened by friendly chatter.
The food is produced on location using organic and seasonal ingredients. Everything is lovingly arranged, but not too extravagant. Delightful simplicity. I liked the diversity of the menu overall and very much enjoyed the taste of good, home-made food.
Beside sweet dessert-like items, they offer various teas, soy lattes, bingsu as well as 2 sandwiches. There's even an English menu for international customers available now.

Fantastic Little Cafe - Edit
It’s a little out of the way, but super worth it! Maju Story is a cozy, sit on the floor, no shoes type place. The owner speaks no English but is super nice, and is also super patient with foreigners with no Korean skills. We were travelling with a nut allergy and with some google translate she was really accommodating in letting us know that our order was safe to go!
Read moreThere is a separate English Menu for drinks, but for BingSu there is only Korean. From what we could gather there was a strawberry red bean one, a mochi red bean and a coffee and choco one. Had the strawberry and coffee and they were both wonderful, not too sweet and really refreshing!
Keep and eye out for the vegan pastries that are near the cash counter, they’re not on the menu but are definitely worth checking out! We enjoyed some nice savoury scones.
Definitely a great place to also grab a hot tea and relax for a few hours!
Pros: All vegan , Owner understands allergen needs

update info. - Edit
I've never been this place but as a follower of the owner's instagram, they only use organic, locally grown wheat flour, fruits, and veggies in Korea. I thought I would mention it ;-)

This place is an absolute dream! - Edit
If I could give this place 10 stars, I would.
Read moreEven though it’s pretty hard to get to unless you live nearby, I keep doing the hour commute back to this amazing spot! First off, the cafe itself is beautiful and very welcoming. Lots of families come and it seems like the employees know all the customers by name which is so sweet. You also take your shoes off before entering and there’s floor seating on little pillows with outlets scattered about (there are tables as well if necessary). The bakery items are always rotating as they try new things but the drinks, bingsu, and sandwiches I believe are all unchanging. Every time I go I get the green tea bingsu which is absolutely lovely and fairly priced considering the other bingsu I’ve had in Seoul was either too expensive or just ice with fruits in it. I’ll usually also try one of the things in the display case as well. Last week they had apple pie and chocolate muffins which were both delicious but the apple pie was exceptional- hands down the best I’ve ever had, vegan or otherwise. Definitely don’t pass on the apple pie if you see it there again.
Unfortunately for non-korean speakers, I only speak Korean when I come to this place and I don’t believe the employee speaks much English. However- they did just get an English menu and I’m sure pointing to what you want would suffice since all the bakery items are right in front of you on display. Since I’ve been coming often, they’ve started to give me free baked goods while I study which is so kind of them to do! One was even a green tea tarte because they know I always get the green tea bingsu.
Overall, if you are coming to Seoul this place is an underrated must-visit!
Pros: Amazing environment, Good seating, Absolutely amazing food (and bingsu!)
Cons: Not very English friendly

aww! such heartwarming review you wrote. this place is near my house in Korea and one of my must-visit lists when I come back. I heard that this place is run by community there and they do have a live music event and so on. the tables are also made of pine or something. now I am even more stoked to check this place out after reading your lovely comment!

Vegan Patbingsu! - Edit
Maju story was recommended by me from someone of the "Seoul Veggie Club" group on facebook. The minute I heard about it I went. I was looking for vegan patbingsu (a korean dessert) and couldn't wait to try it out.
Read moreMaju story offers four different ones at reasonable prices (5,000-8,500). I ended up getting the one with green tea and LOVED it! The portion was generous and I shared it with my man.
The interior of the space is lovely. There was calming music in the background, lots of light brown wood and artwork. It's the perfect place to have a coffee/tea at with some sweet desserts.
It's honestly one of the sweetest cafes I've ever been to and know I wasn't paid to write this review, ha! I am just beyond thrilled to have found this place! 😄
