Formerly Luna Azul, they are in the same location, now called Abuelita’s Kitchen.
The vegan options aren’t marked, but they seemed knowledgeable about veganism when I asked. They said two taco options can be made vegan: Hongos (mushroom taco) and Cielo y Tierra (sky and earth). They said for the vegan option, they just cook them in oil instead of butter.
This place has a great family-owned vibe and extremely friendly, helpful, speedy service. Casual and comfortable. Lots of high-chairs and very nice to kids. The menu has at least one vegan option in every sub-section. And they definitely are aware of vegan diets. After I ordered vegan, they double-checked to make sure it was okay that my toddler’s order was simply vegetarian and had non-vegan elements.
I love to go to Luna Azul because they have three veg fillings you can put into anything: enchiladas, burritos, gorditas, tacos, or chili relleno....and these fillings go beyond the boring zucchini, squash, spinach. My favorite is the Cielo y Tierra which is beets, yams, carrots, corn, black bean, zucchini, onion, and red and green bell pepper. The options are clearly marked, and they are willing to work with any other dietary restrictions/preferences like gluten free. Their Taco Tuesday is amazing. Four street tacos for $5. Go and support this family restaurant!
