Dinner service was a scam! - Edit
Contrary to the other reviewers’ seemingly great experiences, ours was a bitter one. Granted, the food was okay and the place was clean. Everyone commented on how nice the manager was. We thought so as well until we got the check which turned out to be a total ripoff.
Read moreWe got here at around 5:30 for an early dinner, just to find them cleaning up getting ready to close. A man I assume was the manager came out and said they were wiped out of food from a busy lunch session earlier. Still, he assured us he could rustle up something. We asked for the menu but were told there was none. Anyway, we went with it, not having a single moment of doubt. I mean, how expensive can a meal be in a Loving Hut? Let alone one in Puno in Peru? We were so wrong.
After some wait, he brought out two bowls of soup noodles (the instant kind), a plate of veggie saltado, and a platter of papa a la Huancaína. Very basic stuff. We also ordered a carrot juice, dessert, and some snacks to go. The total came to a whopping 144 soles! That’s US$50! (He simply told us the amount. No receipt or anything.) That was crazy expensive by Peruvian standards, but we just paid and left. It was after we went back to the hotel that we realized how ridiculous it was that we returned to confront him.
When questioned about the bill, he showed us a little memo that he scribbled on:
Soups - 14
Juice - 7
Two main plates - 25 each
Cakes - 7
Snacks - 20
The main plates were way overpriced for what they were; the rest were fair. But then there was another 20 on the paper that, according to him, was an additional charge for the “great lengths” that the kitchen to serve us. What a crock! Well, he should’ve been upfront about it from the get-go, but he mentioned nothing. Heck, say I gave him that, the total should be 118, nowhere near 144. Apologizing, he said he must have “somehow” doubled the surcharge. Even so, it should’ve been 138. What about the other 6 soles? He was so FOS and couldn’t even justify his own math. In the end, we managed to get the 26 soles back, gave up on the surcharge and the overpriced items, and left.
This dinner ended up being—unrightfully so—the priciest meal we had during our two weeks in Peru. Insane, I know. It wasn’t so much about the miscalculations (maybe math just wasn’t his thing) as it was about the arbitrary charge that he added to our bill. There was another couple dining there that evening, and the manager casually told us he charged them the same. I felt bad for them.

Really enjoyed - Edit
Great value considering for 20 soles you get a drink, salad buffet, soup, choice of many main dishes, and a dessert. I was surprised by how spacious the restaurant is! We were led up to a table near the window on the second floor.
Read moreFor the main I went for “combinado” and asked for whatever they recommended, I was so impressed by the huge plate that arrived. It was much more generous than my partner’s main of quinoa chaufa. So maybe go for a combinado if you’re extra hungry.
The staff were all lovely. Had a nice chat with the manager (presumably) at the front counter about the Loving Huts all around the world, including our hometown of Brisbane. He also gave us some restaurant recs for our next destination Arequipa, super friendly guy!
Pros: all-vegan in Puno, such friendly & welcoming staff, value for money

Eek... not good, the one in Lima is a billion times better. - Edit
Really disappointing! We came here cos we loved the one in Lima but this was nothing like it.
Read moreThe waiter was nice but the service from the front lady was bad...she decided to have a phone conversation half way through giving us our change....it was so odd. And when we first got there she asked if we were tourists? With no context or follow up question.
The food was bad too. My teeth hurt from eating the hardest chips. The sausages were bad too. My partners and sisters plates were also below average.
I would give this one a miss next time!
Pros: It's vegan...
Cons: Taste, Front lady

Set menu with delicious options - Edit
I think people have mentioned the set menu but I didn’t realise that it was the only option here, so that’s good to note. Got a quinoa soup, salad, and for our main we chose the fries with vegan hotdog which was delicious. Was very happy to find some vegan meat in this town! All that and a drink was only 20 soles (cash only) so I call that a bargain. Very friendly service, and the place was popping off with locals so was nice to go somewhere the locals enjoy too (not a tourist trap at all!).

Vegan oasis in a vegan desert (Puno)! - Edit
Puno isn't known for its vegan restaurants, and Loving Hut is the best of the very few spots you will find in the town. Unfortunately, they close at 5, so dinner is either early or you have to find someplace else. We had a nice set menu lunch and stocked up on various vegan snacks sold in the little store before leaving.
Read moreIf they were open later, we definitely would have gone again, as the vegan options were very limited in Puno.

Outstanding - Edit
Well, all the other reviews truly do speak for themselves and I can only add to that - our lunch menu was absolutely wonderful, so delicious, such a perfect combination of bright and also subtle flavors, of fake meats and lots of veggies and rice and noodles. The saltado especially, hmm. A little bit of everything and it complimented each other so well. Would go back in an instant. They also sell so many vegan products, almost whatever you wish for and last but not least, the icecream (cashew chocolate / oreo) 🫠 - to die for. Highly recommend coming here. We paid 20Soles for a menu.

Incredible 🍨🍜🥗🥦 - Edit
The menu of the day is slightly pricy, at 20soles, but incredibly delicious and very much worth it. We also enjoyed their plant based ice creams and picked up a block of tofu, chocolates, and cookies for the next days and our future bus trips. The service is really friendly and our food had an amazing variety. Eat the rainbow! Would definitely recommend and return for more. 😊😍🍠

Cheap lunch - Edit
We went here for lunch - set menu for only 20 sols. The owner/server spoke some English and was friendly. The menu included a set drink, salad, a set soup, and a dessert - fruit jelly type dish. We could then choose from a range of mains. I got the noodles - they were very flavourful and felt fresh.

Good main dish, didn't enjoy everything else - Edit
I couldn't eat half of the soup, it tasted really weird and I don't know what it was. The juice (cebada) was really strange, not tasteful at all. I ordered a chincharron with lomo for the main dish and it was good. The dessert was strange as well.
Read moreI say weird and strange because I don't know precisely what was wrong, but it wasn't tasty. The price is ok as well (20 soles for the full menu). Maybe in another day you will have better luck with the dishes? :)
One thing I didn't like is that you can't see what the main dishes are before ordering them, like you would in a buffet.
Pros: Fully vegan

Solid vegan place in Puno - Edit
Considering Puno has extremely limited vegan options, this is a good one. Some of the staff speak english. We ordered two menus (a menu includes a salad, beverage, soup, main, and a dessert). There were 10 options for the main, we chose Inka special (veg meat, baked carrots, potato, sauce, salad), and bean curry (included half of fried plantain). Both were alright but a little cold. There was a choice of two beverages (herbal tea and passion fruit hot drink) both were very good. We didn't get desert until we specifically asked for it and it wasn't very good (veg gelatine of apple-cinnamon flavour) - they served it to the locals without delay. They only take cash.

A busy restaurant/shop/hostal - Edit
There is a 4 course menu, with 3 options for the 3rd course. Fresh and healthy food. S/10 for the menu. I also bought a chunk of cake to take-out S/5. Today (23rd Dec) there were choices of Panetone to buy - much-loved by Peruvians at this time of year. The restaurant had a constant flow of people, old and young, locals and tourists. Upstairs there were large posters of famous vegans to motivate if necessary. It is also a hostal.

Confusing - Edit
Even though there is a menu posted outside when we went in we were told we only had 3 options. We ordered the first two which we thought were a stir fry with fried soy pieces, and a soup. We were very wrong. We were given 2 soup appetizers, then when those were done we were give a curry type dish and then a plate with the fried soy pieces, a couple cooked potatoes that weren’t washed before cooking, and a couple peppers. I wasn’t sure what to make of it, and the curry dish wasn’t very good.
