A reconstructed 3rd-century Buddhist temple features towers, a library & a traditional garden. Offers a vegan food menu which may include different types of noodles and changing appetizers. There is also a coffee shop in the same hall that offers plant based milks.

Best Temple food in Shanghai ! (Warning not fully vegan) - Edit
The menu is very simple : only one hot noodle option, and different cold appetizers.
Read moreThe portion of noodles is very generous : freshly made, with tofu and mushrooms. Delicious I have nothing to say !
The cold side-dishes are good too : be careful, there is one with an egg. But you can easily chose another option.
This is a full meal !! You can add spicy chili sauce if you like.
Because we're in a temple, prices were so low I did not trust it at first. There is also a small shop if you want to buy snacks or conditionned food they use in the restaurant.
The temple itself is of course worth the visit, and if you look closely you'll be happy to encounter many many cats !!
To reach the restaurant, you have to go to the back of the temple area, on the right.

Amazing - Edit
They had pretty good food there and super cheap. There are not a large variety of options. I think they kind of have the menu of the day. You can order a soup and a main dish separately. The soup especially was a generous amount of noodle soup. The main dish was some vegan meat with some fruits. Both dishes were super tasty, we loved them.

Pros: Amazing food, Generous portions
Cons: Not too many options to choose from

Good experience - Edit
One dish + one side dish, so no time lost pondering on the choice. It's good and filling, a soup with noodles, mushrooms and tofu. The side dishes might vary between 3 choices.

Very taste steamed bean curd roll (素鸡, vegetarian "chicken") - Edit
The temple cafe offers a small menu of very good food. The main dish is steamed bean curd roll (素鸡, vegetarian "chicken") and noodles. You can get a side dish containing egg, tofu and pickles.
Read moreWe were happy to sit next to a local Chinese woman who explained to us that you can simply grab a plate at the counter and pay afterwards via app (e.g., Alipay). She also pointed out that there is a free refill for the noodle dish - you can just go back to the counter with your bowl and get it fully refilled.
The test is really amazing and very umami. Highly recommended place.

Vegetarian Noodles (Lohan Noodles) - Edit
In the longhua temple there is a cafeteria (it is inside, walk almost to the end of the temple). The place was very clean and served Lohan noodles / Vegetarian noodles. It is 15RMB, but eat first and pay/donate later. Chilli and some cold dishes(10rmb) were also available. We also had iced coffee with coconut milk. Other coffee options and drink options available. Moon cakes were available warm.

Basic choice of a noodle dish & a side plate. Nice canteen atmosphere - Edit
Has standard dishes of the day.
Read moreYou take the food you want and then pay a donation after (cash or QR code at the table, no till).
Vegetarian rather than vegan (the side dish today included an egg), but the main noodle dish may have been vegan?
The recommended donation was 15 Yuan for the noodle dish, and 10 Yuan for the side. Nice fresh basic food, in a nice temple. Canteen atmosphere and people just find a space on a table. Lots of space.

Vegan noodles! - Edit
Come here for vegan noodles! Usually the kitchen also provides some small side dishes too. They also offer entirely vegan coffee/hot drinks.
Read moreI visited during the new year time so the temple was incredibly busy and there was a huge queue to get food, but it did move quickly. The seating area is massive so there is plenty of space.
The way the system works is that you are given the food 'for free'. There are QR code you can scan to donate a small recommended amount for your meal or lots of big red boxes for cash donations.
There's a shop in the temple selling various snacks - I've included some images of the snacks that are vegan friendly. All delicious! There are ingredients on the boxes for sale so you can use translate apps to check.

Visit a temple, eat delicious food - Edit
Eternally thankful for vegan temples in China. The restaurant offered noodles and different appetizers (for extra charge). The food was delicious and filling. I also had a latte with oat milk. Funnily enough, the food and the latte cost the same (~30¥) 😅
