Serves meat, vegan options available. Upmarket, fine dining restaurant housed in an old bank building. Will provide a vegan menu on request. Removed February 2024: Limited vegan options.
The review are a bit out of date so thought I’d share my experience from last night. We were celebrating a friends birthday as the only vegans, as per the booking instructions we just had to give 48hrs notice, and when we arrived they were super attentive, and the food was delicious. For the shared sides for the table they preemptively made sure to seperate out any non vegan elements onto the side and communicated really well about this. They were receptive to our wants on the day, asking if we were happy for the chef to make up a set menu and any dislikes
The chefs at Logan Brown must be different to those working when the last reviews were posted, as they no longer have vegan options worth visiting for. It seemed to be a stretch for them to make the $100 tasting menu vegan, so we opted for just an appetiser and a main. The appetiser was straight asparagus and the main was a bland risotto. Please don’t waste your money here if you want good vegan food! They had said that the only vegan dessert was sorbet (very boring😒), but then made a vegan donut dessert to make up for the meals. At $40 per main it didn’t do much good. Try somewhere else down the road for a more satisfying vegan experience ☀️
We requested a vegan version of the Chef's Tasting Menu. All five courses were absolutely delicious, and clearly a lot of thought had gone into how to create interesting vegan dishes. The staff were also extremely friendly. It is on the pricey side ($95 for the tasting menu) but to my mind definitely worth it. I'd highly recommend it.
We wanted to dine at Logan Brown for a birthday celebration on a Saturday night. Initially I was dismayed when I realised they only serve a degustation menu on Saturdays. I rang and said 2 of us were vegan and was it possible to have a vegan degustation. It wasn't a problem and we had the most wonderful food. Excellent.
Fine dining for vegans in Wellington is difficult. Basically after having several anniversary and birthday disasters we'd given up. For a recent landmark birthday a vegan friend suggested giving Logan Brown a go. We contacted them in advance and they sent us a sample menu, on request, which looked interesting. On the day we were met at the door, shown to our table and given our own printed menu, they had even printed up a vegan wine list for us which was a bonus no, having to ask with confused looks and 'Aren't all wines vegan?' comments. There was a choice of two courses for entrée, main and desert - flavoured frozen water or fruit salad was NOT thrown at us as the only desert option for vegans. The meal was tasty and the staff were respectful towards us. We didn't feel we were fobbed off by the chef with no clue about vegan cuisine. We were well catered for. The restaurant is in an old bank building and has a lovely atmosphere to it. Be aware that there is an sea water tank, ingeniously built into the bar, which contains sea creatures i.e.) starfish, small crabs, paua etc. but these are not for eating. This is not the sort of restaurant you would visit every week, unless you had a gold card, but for a special occasion or celebration where you want a bit of sophistication and spoiling this is well worth a visit. We are pleased to have found it and will definitely be returning there.
