Eat here. Forget going to anywhere else! - Edit
Beautiful, clean, elegant and tasty. Amazing value for money. Try the platter and taste the menu.
Read moreThis food is just like my wife's at home (when she makes it!). Real home "cooking" in the city!
And clean! Did I say clean?
Forty years a vegetarian/vegan, in Europe and North America, I take off my hat to the chef at this restaurant. I would eat no where else in Quebec City during my recent visit.
I will stay at the Palace Royale every time I visit this city - because it's a two minute walk to this amazing restaurant!
At last I can relaxedly eat in Quebec City ... may all the deities be praised!
Pros: Fabulous food, Clean!!, Wonderful value for money

A Vegan Oasis of Heaven - Edit
Les Gourmandises Louca is a zero waste organic 100% vegan cafe, in the beautiful city of Quebec, owned by Gregory and Julie. I loved the interior, it was so chilled and relaxed, there was a small table in the window, which you sat around on cushions, a communal table and small tables of two and everything was secondhand, all part of the no waste policy. I loved the bold yellow poster on the wall, about the dairy industry, I felt right at home.
Read moreThe napkins were made from cloth, as were the hand towels in the toilet, laundered each day to avoid wastage, I was totally impressed. One wall opposite the counter was full of containers of nuts, seeds, lentils, grains, herbs and spices, so you could bring your own and restock, the same for household products like washing up liquid or hand soap, located at the rear of the cafe.
On our first visit which was cold with torrential rain, we nipped in for a quick snack, so I tried to translate the menu board, but luckily Gregory spoke very good English. There was a big counter with loads of vegan goodies in, like tarts, quiches, pizza slices, cakes and tortes and power balls, all homemade by Julie.
Hubby ordered beetroot and potato soup, which was a huge bowlful, rich, luscious and packed with flavour. I chose polenta and carrot slice, which sounded a strange combination, yet I really enjoyed it, very creamy, light and tasty.
On our second day, the sun came out, so we had a long walk, so we were ready for coffee and cake by the time we got to Les Gourmandises Louca. I chose pear and almond tart and hubby a chocolate tart, with two coffees and what a treat it was.
The tarts were amazing, I did not want to finish mine it was that good, such light pastry and the almond and pear filling was fantastic. Hubby loved his chocolate tart, in fact if we were really greedy, we could have polished off another one, but we decided on another coffee instead. The coffee since we left the UK had been awful in New York and most of the Canadian ports we visited, it was weak with no taste, but the coffee at Les Gourmandises Louca was just what we wanted, so hence the second cup.
Les Gourmandises Louca is a vegan oasis in the city of Quebec, I cannot recommend it highly enough, I love their ethics and their food. How I wish I was sat typing this review and eating that pear and almond tart again.
Pros: 100% vegan, Zero waste shop

Meh - Edit
The service wasn't very good and the restaurant was dead when I got there (granted it was 2pm). I just ended up getting carrot cake which was good - the icing on it was phenomenal though.
Read moreI'd like to try it out again when I have more time but the ambience is definitely kind of what you'd stereotypically think of a zero waste vegan place.

Tasty and good value - Edit
This place has a very cute atmosphere and lots of options. We got the potato gratin with cashew cheese and the lasagne. The gratin and cashew cheese was really good as was the carrot soup. The Lasagne was pretty good, but I felt like it was missing something. We also got a chocolate banana smoothie and a fresh grapefruit juice which were yum. Staff were very friendly. The prices were very reasonable too.

Never again - Edit
This place deserves no star, because of the awful welcome. Just seen their back, said "hello" twice and never heard an answer. WTF???!!!! Do another job, guys! Cet endroit ne mérite aucune étoile, à cause de leur sens douteux de l’accueil. Nous n’avons vu que leur dos, avons dit "hello" deux fois et n’avons obtenu aucune réponse. WTF ???!!!! Faites un autre boulot, les gars !

Could be better - Edit
The cafe is in a really happening spot but the food left a lot to be desired. The pizza with cashew cheese was delicious, but the potato gratin was uninspiring and the lasagna was OK, but both that and the gratin came out cold. We were craving a hot meal so were quite disappointed that our meals were barely warm.
