Excellent! - Edit

We had dinner at Corail At Latifa a few nights ago and loved it.

Everything was delicious, freshly prepared food with lots of flavour.

Latifa sure knows how to cook vegan food. We strongly recommend this place whether you are vegan or not. We loved the pumpkin soup and the spring roll.

Service was good and food was ready quite quickly.

The owners were very nice and kind with our children. They even offered them some coloring books and crayons.

This is the only authentic vegan food in that area. Make sure you encourage them.

We would of had more meals there but they were closed on the Sunday. That was very unfortunate. Food was terrible next door.

Pros: Excellent food, good price, good location

Cons: the almond and prune tajine was a little small

cosy vegan tagine heaven - Edit

This amazing Moroccan restaurant is tucked away in a corner of the square (not to be confused with the bigger restaurant next door). Has indoor as well as outdoor seating so nice and cosy on a winter evening. Our food was very flavourful, thoughtfully presented and full of welcome vegetabley lentiley goodness. :) The chef and her husband are adorable and extremely welcoming, a real beacon for veganism in essaouira. Keep up the great work!

Pros: huge menu, generous portions and inexpensive

Cons: too many great dishes to choose from!

Vegan gem in Essaouira - Edit

A husband and wife team run this cute cosy vegan place with indoor and outdoor seating. Latifa is the chef and she is vegan, as are all her dishes. There's a dazzling array of tajines, burgers, salads, and other dishes on offer. We got a salad, two juices, and two tajines, which were all super tasty. It was a filling meal for two people. Highly recommended!

Super delicious! - Edit

Very sweet and good-hearted owners. I came twice to eat here during my stay since it is such a nice little restaurant where the food is cooked with love and fresh, local produces. This couple knows the need of having both vegetables and legumes in one dish.

You'll feel like family after eating here!! - Edit

This is a small hidden family restaurant in the heart of Essaouira. It's located in a courtyard, surrounded by bigger restaurants that want to rip of customers. They have a few tables outside, and two-three tables inside.

As said, it's a family restaurant, and you feel that the moment you enter the restaurant. I spent a week in Essaouira, and I have never felt the hospitality of Morocco more than this. Some nights i ended up watching Morroccan television with Latifa (the chef and wife) and Tarik (the waiter and husband). Tarik and Latifa doesn't speak very good English, but are fluent in French and Moroccan-Arabic. Communication is no problem though, and they both warm up to you after you have come there several times, which you should :)

The food is extreme! I came there everyday for a week, and I ate my way trough the menu. Although that's impossible to do in a week, because it's so extremely large! They have 55 different fruit and vegetable juices (all vegan), 51 different tajines (all vegan), 19 different salads (all vegan (try the lentil salad!!!)), 15 different creams/soups (all vegan), 10 different kinds of spring rolls/vegan pastry, 6 different veggie-burgers (all vegan), different kinds of vegan desserts and a broad selection of soda, water, tea and other drinks. What matters though, is the taste. It's amazing and often unexpected. They use a rich mix of different herbs from one dish to the other. It all depends on what you order. All the vegetables are seasonal and fresh, and you can really taste that. The prices are also very good. For example, tajines range from 25 to 70 dirham, and the portions are big.

The atmosphere there is so relaxed, like you are eating food in your own home. They give you gifts after you've eaten, in the shape of small bracelets or necklaces. They really remember each and every customer who comes by, and it seems as though they just want to make your day better. And they do it every time.

Tarik and Latifa are amazing people, trying to survive in the touristified medina of Essaouira, and they really burn and fight for veganism and vegetarianism. Visit them, you will not be disappointed!!

Sincerely, Trym Karlsen

Pros: Good choices of spices and herbs, Huuuuuge cheap menu, Incredibly friendly staff

Cons: Overshadowed by other, bigger restaurants

Very highly recommended - Edit

This is such a good place. The photos on Happy Cow aren't the most appetizing, but believe me the food here is good. I kept coming back during my time in Essaouira. The owners are both incredibly sweet people as well. There are several veg/vegan restaurants on this square--look for Le Corail specifically and head there first.

Quite nice :) - Edit

This little restaurant is quite a nice place to eat! Like many restaurants in the city, it feels very cozy, just like you're dining in someone's home. Latifa makes everything herself in such a way that I felt as though my own mother was making supper for me. I prefer a very strong flavor in my foods, so to me, the dishes (a filo pastry dish and a homemade burger patty) were somewhat tame. However, the price and portions were quite agreeable to me, and the juices were sweet and fresh. I would recommend any herbivore to stay for a meal here- you won't be disappointed. :)

Pros: Very nice staff, Reasonable Price, Comfortable atmosphere

Cons: Somewhat mild flavors

Amazing little place with many options and great care - Edit

We stumbled upon this place after seeing the word vegan from the street outside. There is a huge menu including 50 types of tagine - all vegetarian, mostly vegan. We both went for tagines. I'm gluten intolerant and Tariq very kindly replaced the bread that is usually served at the start of a meal in Morocco with fruit. My friend is allergic to onion and garlic and so her tagine was prepared without. These were that tastiest tagines we have tried in Morocco and my friend was amazed at how much flavour they managed to get into her food without the onion and garlic. When we asked what spices they had used it was clear that they had really thought about how to replace those ingredients to make the meal still super tasty. I had originally asked for a chickpea and mushroom tagine but swapped to aubergine as they had run out of chickpeas. This turned out to be excellent and the aubergines really soaked up the flavours and were amazing. The olives were also totally delicious. And the restaurant does camomile tea which was a lovely change to be able to have a tea without caffeine in the evening. Tariq was so very lovely and kind and seemed to really take care and pride over the food. I cannot recommend this place enough. We will definitely return. Best food we've had in Morocco without a doubt.

Pros: kind friendly staff, accommodating and flexible, tasty tasty food

Cons: not issue for us but toilet not inrestaurant itsel

As they said: small restaurant, big menu - Edit

After being in Morocco for 10 days, we were a little tired of always eating the same "vegetarian tagine". Then we found this place with over 50 kinds of tagine, plus many other things. We tried the chef's salad (so original, with banana), the cabbage and mushroom spring rolls and the olive and fries tagine. Everything wonderful. The place is so cozy and the people are lovely. Merci! :)

Pros: lots of options

Cons: nothing

Warm & friendly - Edit

I visited this place once and found the owner very warm and friendly. It's a very nice and intimate atmosphere inside. I ordered a veggie burger with mushrooms and peppers. What I got was 70% mashed potato 15& red peppers and 10% sliced mushrooms from a can and a selection of veggies on the side. Not what I was expecting, but not overly disappointing either. There was some flavor to it, which you don't always get with veggie food in Morocco.

ps if you go to a regular cafe in town you can get a delicious veggie burger with cheese & fries for 25D ;)

Pros: Warm & friendly staff

all vegan goodness - Edit

This was an really nice restaurant. The owner and his wife were super friendly. The food was awesome. I had an vegan lentils tajine and my mum had some dough filled with veggies. Both was so good and it was definitely a highlight in my Morocco journey. They have so many things in the menu I nearly couldn't decide. (Normally the only option has been couscous and tajine vegetarian)
So if you are in Essaouira stop bye the definitely are happy about your visit.

Pros: cheap, I think all of it is vegan and really good

Cons: it's kind of secret behind a corner

Delicious and lovely atmosphere - Edit

After having a quick chat with the owner that afternoon I brought a group of 8 travellers back for dinner, which filled the cosy inside room. The freshly prepared food was worth waiting for, the couple very friendly and a special request was accommodated for without any trouble. I would definitely return!

Pros: Lots of vegan options, which was refreshing!, English version of the menu.

Cons: Run by husband and wife team who are both the cook

le corail essaouira - Edit

What a lovely little restaurant, not posh or swanky, just nice friendly owners, relaxed atmosphere and above all great food, the red and green pepper and onion tagine was the best tagine I've ever tasted, the soup i had for starter was also excellent.
As a traveller, i was ready to get on the road again today, but after sampling this food i decided to stay on one more day for another visit.

Pros: food excellent

Cons: cant think of one

An admirable 100% vegan dinner - Edit

Run by a sweet and humble vegan couple, this lovely restaurant is situated on a small square in the heart of the Medina. Welcoming service, non-imposing waiter, tasty and fabulous food for reasonable prices. All home-cooked by the owner's wife. The menu is rich: Wide range of Tajines (from vegetables, rice-lentils combinations, chickpeas, mushrooms, eggplants and so one), Couscous, appetizing Filo- pastry, spring rolls, freshly squeezed juices and their speciality, the veggie burger. They have wi-fi. Heartfelt experience :)

quelle gentillesse et bon restaurant ! - Edit

loads of variety for vegans! - Edit

We had the chickpea lentil burger and chickpea spring rolls both of which were really delicious; just be aware that the vegan burgers aren’t actually a full burger but rather a giant patty and some veggies on the side.

Good Moroccan food - Edit

I highly recommend this restaurant! We had been there for dinner and had a juice, a cauliflower and chickpea salad, a lentil tajine with vegetables and eggplant tajine with chickpeas and the famous orange cannelle for dessert... It was one of the best Moroccan food that we had! The choice is incredible (two pages of juice, two pages of tajines, spring rolls, veggie burger, filo pastry) and it's all very tasty! We come back as soon as possible

Updated from previous review on 2017-10-29
