Lal-mentable - Edit
Before moving to the UAE, my affinity with Indian food was already fully fledged. However, having been fortunate enough to reside in a country with such exemplary, authentic, and affordable Indian food, my love for the craft has grown exponentially. As I had not been back to sample the British interpretation of this most delicious of cuisines for a number of years, this restaurant had the dubious honour of being the first directly compared with that to which I had become accustomed.
Read moreIn order to give them the best possible opportunity to shine (or because I possess the self-control of a child given free rein in an amusement park), I did as I always do and ordered an obscene number of dishes spanning every facet of the menu. In principle, this should have provided ample contrast through a profusion of flavours and textures, but in reality almost everything - be it starters, curries, or sides - was remarkably, and disappointingly, similar on both counts.
The only dish that truly stood out for the right reasons was the dhansak, thanks to its distinctive balance of sweet and sour.
At the opposite end of the scale sat the ‘Sri Lanka’ curry. Severely lacking in both the creaminess and coconut promised by the menu, it was a rather sad representation of what should have been a beautiful creation.
There wasn’t much reprieve from the aggressive averageness when it came to the sundries. The best I could say of the breads was that they were available, while the pair of chips were sorely lacking in seasoning. Slightly contradictorily, however, I still found those fries to be the most enjoyable element of the meal. Their quirky shape and inherent fluffiness ultimately overcame their absence of salinity.
Going into this meal, I knew there was scant chance that this place would be able to hold a candle to the wonderfulness I had become accustomed to in the desert, and so it proved. I did, however, harbour hope that it might at least sit comfortably among the finest of the also-rans, yet it ultimately landed somewhere in the realm of middling to poor.

Indian Delights - Edit
We visited without a booking after a lovely day out at the nearby Alnwick Gardens and Lilidorei, and had a thoroughly enjoyable evening meal here.
Read moreMenu is clearly labelled, with lots of choice, and as a family we shared the following:
*Vegetable Rogan Josh
*Vegetable sambar
*Daal
*Begun
*Chana masala
*Steamed basmati rice
*chapatis
All our dishes were really flavourful and perfectly spiced, with the daal, begun and Rogan Josh, particular highlights.
Staff were friendly and attentive, with a nice vibe and lovely rustic interior.

Excellent restaurant with vegan options - Edit
We decided to visit after reading the great reviews and it definitely lived up to the hype. Our server, Ash, was fantastic, friendly, knowledgeable, and happy to ensure that everything we ordered was vegan and helped us navigate the menu. The menu was easy to navigate, with dairy and egg allergens clearly marked, making it simple to identify the vegan options. The food was absolutely delicious, beautifully presented, and packed with flavour. A really enjoyable dining experience from start to finish. We’ll definitely be back!

Fantastic takeaway! - Edit
The staff here are extremely friendly and helpful! I'd placed an order for collection and said the order was vegan. Someone actually rang me back to say one of the items I'd ordered had dairy in and offered an alternative instead of simply givingme what I'dordered! Although the menu doesn't use the 'Ve' indicator, both vegetarian and dairy free are clearly labelled.
