We fell in love with Kuppila! It’s not easy to find vegan food in Japan and Kuppila really saved us. The food was heavenly good, very fresh and delicious. I drank a cup of coffee after the luch and it was hand drip and perfect. I would recommend Kuppila to anyone. Omistaja puhuu täydellistä Suomea - the owner speaks perfect Finnish.

A cosy, but small little gem close to Nara Station. Got a good portion of the lunch menu set. The girl behind the counter was fluent in English and could some finish and Swedish as well. Loved this place and if you like the finish long drink they also have it there.

Nara has changed with more vegan places in past two years. This food was so tasty and the setting is a lovely bar counter. Owner speaks perfect english but entertained my basic Japanese. Was a delightful start to the Nara trip as close to station.

I went to this bar/restaurant in Nara on a bit of a whim, and was really glad I did. The food was excellent - I had a big bowl with lots of vegetables and tofu.

Very friendly and great english speaking staff on the day i visited. My lunch set, coffee and take away brownie dessert was all delicious and great value for money. Would return!

The place is more a bar than a restaurant (you have to sit at the counter) but offers a great variety of vegan food. The rice bowl with tofu that I had was not that tasty but the two appetizers and the curry my wife had were great.

My partner and I went on a hot day and had the set menu of the day and the soup of the day. Both were delicious and the serving sizes were generous. The location is conveniently close to the train station, and the interior design is traditional, with patrons sitting at the bar. The set menu food (eg curry, rice, salad) seems to be prepared in a large portion for the day. The chef was very helpful and gave recommendations about vegan places to eat in Osaka and Kyoto (where we were heading next).

My absolute favourite place to eat while I was in Japan. It was so good that I travelled to Nara from Osaka 3 times just to eat here. All of the food was tasty and fresh and the combinations used in the set lunch were perfect selections. The owner is a lovely lady who was very easy to talk to (Speaks Japanese, English and Finnish) and is just one of those decent human beings. If you read the reviews a lot of people mention the brownies. Yes please have the brownies! I had 2 servings each time I visited! Excessive, but hey I was on holiday. Also the Masala Chai was incredible. I am a chai fan. It's a good one!! I took my carnivorous friend to eat there and he was very impressed with the food. Kuppila Cafe was one of the true highlights of my stay in Japan. If you are in and around Nara or even if you are not, then I would make the trip and visit for a meal. I think you will definitely enjoy it.

We had an amazing meal at Kuppila- very simple menu of delicious vegan food and it's a traditional style restaurant with a U shaped bar around the centre where the sweet owner serves you. We had crispy soy meat on a bed of rice with an amazing sauce and took two brownies away to enjoy later.

Kuppila is a cute, locally owned/run vegan restaurant. The menu changes daily and offers lunch sets, soup of the day, drinks, and desserts. We ordered the lunch set which was a big plate with different salads, curries, rice, and fried wheat gluten. The soup of the day (creamy daikon and carrot) was delicious and so were the walnut brownies. Not badly priced for Nara (900 yen for the lunch set) but still on the pricier end. The lady who runs this place is really nice too, speaks great English, and is well traveled!

we had the curry, the falafel, the soy meat dish, the brownie, and one of the appetizers. literally ALL of it was so delicious. the brownies were fudgy, not too sweet, and all the portions were good. i believe that the woman there does it all herself!! super friendly and service was fast, too. it is very small, about 7 seats, but it didn't seem to be to busy. some of the best vegan food i've had in the area, give it a try!!

We got there very close to them shutting but the lady was super helpful and prepared us the lunch set and the panini with hummus! Both things were so fresh and were just what we needed. The chocolate brownies were only 200yen each and were the most delicious and rich brownies I’ve had! Everything was perfect.

Enjoyed this little restaurant. Nice setting on a cold day, snowing outside when we were there. Great value set lunch for 900 yen, food was tasty as well. Great choice of warm vegan coffee, spy drinks and teas as well. Worth the visit.

My boyfriend and I stopped by here for dinner; literally such a gem. This place is the cutest bar! The owner is a sweetheart and her food was amazing! Would recommend to anyone who wants a drink and a nice meal. Good portion sizes, food delicious!
