Krunkwich Ramen House - Edit
I got the Krunk rice with seitan. It was absolutely delicious! The rice was so tasty I almost ate the whole portion--which was about 3 cups of rice. The seitan was crispy with ginger flavor. Good food at a reasonable price.
Read moreThere is a whole separate vegan menu (about half of the items on the menu are vegan) with lots of options and variety.
They have cute cat decorations on the wall.
Pros: Lots of vegan options, Large portions for a good price, Excellent food

Not that authentic - Edit
I went there with my kids for Saturday lunch, I like the place decoration and service was fast. Even if there are many vegan options, I didn’t find the food was great. I agree I’m not a specialist in Korean food but wasn’t impressed by this restaurant

They always have vegan options! - Edit
I love they have own vegan menu here
Read moreLikes - Space, decor, food. My go to is the krunkwich rice, vegan banh mi and their specials. They post most of their (either daily or weekly) specials on instagram and facebook
Dislikes- The tots!!! I've tried them on several occasions but they are always so salty. I feel like they put so much salt on them but it could be my personal preference or tastebuds.
But staff is nice, they have alot of stuff on tables so you don't have to ask for it.

Delicious! - Edit
I was originally going to get a hot dog but learned they only serve the vegan hot dogs friday and sat 10pm-3am. So, instead I ordered the Burnt Ends sandwich and it was delicious! Very spicy ended up with watery eyes and runny nose because it was so spicy and delicious! I ate the whole thing and it was very filling only for $6.. I plan to go back soon to try the ramen and tots!

Many yummy vegan Korean fusion dishes - Edit
I know the title of my review has many adjectives. Go try the food yourself, and adjectives will start flowing out or your mouth in no time.
Read moreI grew up in Korea so I know about traditional Korean food. The food here is not traditional but uses elements from Korean food in clever and creative ways, and those elements are as authentic as you can get them in the US. We ordered #12 Vegan Ramen, Vegan Seoul Bowl, and Vegan Kimchi Tots. They were all delicious with different flavors.
We shared the tots among three of us thankfully because it was a size of an entree itself. I liked the vegan miso whiz, but combined with all the kimchi toppings it was somewhat salty for me. It worked out okay alternating between the vegan ramen and the tots.
All the toppings on the vegan ramen were fresh and tasty. Especially the seitan and fried tofu had nice chewy texture. Noodle was not too chewy and not too soft, and broth was also flavorful.
Vegan Seoul Bowl was full of spiciness from kimchi and gochujang. Try it if you like spicy food.
Later, I tried Tacopocalypse in the East Village, DM and learned that these two places are run by a same owner. I commend both places for making efforts to use original names of Korean ingredients in their dishes along with helpful description. I believe that fusion food should not only mix the food elements of different cultures but also honor the origins of those elements, and the owner of Krunkwich and Tacopocalypse does it well.
These two places made my vegan-themed visit to DM worthwhile, and I will definitely visit them again on my next visit.
Oh, last but not least, it has a looooong vegan menu. I posted the photo of it, front and back. I dream of the day I get to try every one of those vegan dishes.
Pros: A number of various vegan dishes, Well-balanced mix of American, Korean, and Japanes, Delicious, generous portion, and affordable
Cons: The parking spots in front of the restaurant are l, Some dishes are somewhat salty, Only disposable chopsticks are available

Consistently delicious - Edit
This was my third visit to Krunkwich, and I'm obsessed with the Kimchi Tots with Miso Whiz. The staff is friendly and the food comes out fast. The seitan has a nice texture and flavor - it's not as soft as other seitan I've I had, which I appreciate. I've now had it on the Burnt Ends Sandwich and in the Bibimbap. I love the number of vegan options!

Best vegan food in Iowa - Edit
This is easily the best vegan food in Iowa. Krunkwich isn't an entirely vegan restaurant, but they have a separate vegan menu with lots of really interesting options.
Read moreMy favorite is the vegan ramen, which comes with fried tofu, ginger seitan, pickled onions, cucumber slices, and noodles. You have a choice of fresh noodles made in house (that's what I recommend) or traditional ramen noodles. The vegan fried rice is also fantastic, and it's easily enough food to last for a couple of meals. The vegan burnt ends sandwich is the tastiest sandwich option. Sometimes they offer buffalo tofu as a special, and that's delightful as well.
If you're going to or through Des Moines, don't miss a stop at Krunkwich. (I would rate this restaurant 5 cows if it were allowed, but since it's a non-vegan restaurant, I can't.)
Pros: Very flavorful, Inexpensive, Exciting & unusual options

Bahn Mi, Fried Rice, Vegan Ramen - Edit
Krunkwich Ramen House is a great little hole in the wall type restaurant. I've eaten there a handful of times and each time I love it. The Bahn Mi with Seitan or Tofu is vegan. And the fried rice is huge for what it costs you can add Tofu or Seitan for a charge but it's good alone. They have several items on the menu that are marked as Vegan and they do some rotating menu items some of which are vegan The Seitan Burnt Ends sandwich was amazing as well.
