Go here, seriously - Edit

Honestly this was a highlight of my time here. The staff is friendly, atmosphere on point. Almost everything vegan and it is stated clearly. The food was unreal. Like, seriously stop reading this and go there. The vegan curry was the best I've had, everything's organic even the beer, (Fuji beer). Just go, now.

Pros: everything

Cons: I had to leave Hiroshima so I can't eat here anymo

simple, tasty, breakfast - Edit

Came here for breakfast. Very friendly staff and warm interior. Not sure exactly what I was eating - sort of hummus/carrot spread, but was really good on some lovely warm bread. Complete with coffee. Wish I’d had more time to go back for a main - looked great!

Excellent Vegan Selection, Really Chilled Out Place - Edit

The food was beautifully presented, with a wide variety of vegan options. The place inside is really chilled out and very relaxed, with low albeit formal style chairs. Staff were very friendly, and they have a few shelves selling interesting produce, souvenirs and food.

Pros: Good vegan range, The word “Vegan” is specifically stated , Close/within the major shopping district

Worth a visit! - Edit

Fairly easy to find, look for a sign in English “Organic Café and kitchen”. I’m always looking for the literal restaurant name in English (for vegan places) and in Japan that can be tough - duh. I had the lentil hamburg meal which was tasty but damn, I loved my girlfriend’s wheat gluten sandwich (a vegan version of a katsu) and it was soooo good. They have clearly marked Vegan items on the menu. The organic beer (Fuji beer) was really good. Took a few scones to go but haven’t eaten them yet. Friendly staff, fun to sit at the bar/counter and people watch while having your meal. Being American I probably could eat two sandwich meals on the next visit but I would refrain from living up to our reputation...

breakfast set - Edit

We had the vegan breakfast set - it was a small plate of toast, fresh greens, a potato/lentil spread, a fermented rice drink and coffee. Very cheap for 750 yen! The food was tasty and convenient location. Went back for breakfast again the next day!

Kissasaeki - Edit

I visited twice - once for breakfast and the second time for dinner on another day - and would highly recommend this restaurant if you're looking for a quiet, restful place and clean, wholesome food. Both times I was there, there were only a handful of other diners, either individuals or pairs. Vegan options are clearly stated on the menu.

The breakfast salada set (750 yen) was intriguing and came with three slices of toast, a small glass of fermented liquid, a bowl of pureed lentils/onions(?), very fresh salad, and a cup of coffee. A far cry from a typical Western breakfast, it kept me surprisingly satiated for the rest of the day, even when I didn't have time for a sit-down lunch.

For dinner, I was recommended the "glutinous millets croquettes set" (990 yen). It was prettily presented, but way less than what I would normally have for dinner. Once again, my expectations were defied and I was full, but not stuffed, by the end of the meal. Everything felt fresh, clean, wholesome and nourishing.

Will definitely be back if I'm ever in Hiroshima again. I'd give this five stars but the system doesn't allow me to as it's an omnivorous eatery.

Healthly Japanese Teishoku for Vegetarian and Non-Vege - Edit

Want to reset yourself from a junk food life? Looking to tap into the power of vegetables? Would you like to experience traditional Japanese "Teishoku" (a basic set of rice, miso-soup, main dish, side vegetable dish)? You will get satisfied here!

The rice served in this café is sprouted brown rice (more nutritious than white rice), the vegetables are locally grown and organic. For vegetarians you can select from delicious lentil hamburger patties, garbanzo croquette or fried wheat gluten as the main dish for your Teishoku. The fried chicken and spicy curry are also highly recommended.

What’s more there are no artificial additives or MSG in anything on the menu. Enjoy the delicious natural taste! This spacious quiet and tastefully decorated café is also completely non-smoking. Without doubt Cafe Saeki is a Hiroshima treasure!

Pros: vegetarian menu, organic and locally grown vegetable, non-smoking

Cons: Not open late at night

Tasty lunch set - Edit

Had lunch for the first time here today & will definitely be going back. One of the few veggie lunch set options in Hiroshima. There were many veggie options on the menu including croquettes, cutlet, curry, pasta.

My croquette lunch set came with miso soup, brown rice, pickled veg, and another veg side. Reasonable at 990yen.

Was packed at lunch time.

Pros: Many veggie options, Friendly staff, Emphasis on organic food
