Who knew potatoes were this great?! - Edit
Wanted to give this five stars, but apparently that’s not possible because the restaurant also serves non-vegetarian dishes.
Read moreAnyways, the food I had was definitely worth five stars! I started with sweet potatoes with a creamy dip made of silk tofu and other yummy flavourful things. After I had an amazing mushroom rösti from the summer menu, again with a lovely dip. My friend and I shared our desserts: warm brownie with sour cherry sorbet and a coconut based crème brûlée. My non-vegan friend loved them and said they tasted just as good.
There is also a wide variety of home made lemonades and cocktails. Staff is super friendly and speaks English.
All in all a good experience. I was very happy to be able to try local food as this is often not possible as a vegan. Highly recommended if you’re looking for some German food!
Pros: Flavourful , Friendly staff, Nice atmosphere
Cons: A bit pricy for potato based dishes

Lovely dinner - Edit
We had a lovely evening in this restaurant, sitting outside in their "Kartoffelgarten". There are several vegan options, mostly potato-based.
Read moreI had the sweet potato with veggies and a silken tofu and lemon dip. I enjoyed my meal a lot, although I must say that it was not very filling and for the price I had expected a larger portion and more sweet potato. My husband had the roast potatoes with nuts and the same dip, and he liked it a lot, although the meal was a bit small, too.
Our highlight was the vegan crème brûlée that we had for dessert.
The staff were very friendly, and as I said above, the outdoor seating is very pleasant.
Pros: Delicious food, Beautiful outdoor seating, Unusual vegan food
Cons: A bit expenive, Portions are a bit smallish

Potato heaven or hell? - Edit
For somewhere that’s based entirely around the potato I was a little disappointed that my rosti had a slight burnt taste to it. Not enough to complain and send it back but enough to spoil the flavour. The mountain cheese dominated the taste of the dish and I had to play hunt the mushroom. My youngest daughter opted for a baked potato with cheese and mushrooms... and there were a reasonable amount of mushrooms. Still very cheese heavy. The rest of the family opted for non veggie options and were quite happy with their food. Perhaps we should have asked for the vegan menu, which is not offered as standard.
Read moreOn our last visit to Freiburg I was similarly unimpressed by the food. I would however heartily recommend the unfiltered Pils on the menu. Service was a little slow, though not excessively so.

Lovely and yummy - Edit
Wow, I was totally surprised that they had an extra vegan menu. And everything we had was super delicious. Overall everything fits well together, very mindful, super attentive and nice service. They even had the most expensive organic nappies at the changing table. I'd say the higher price in justified.

A whole vegan menu - Edit
The menu is huge... which means that none of it is fresh.
Read moreBut there are many vegan options- there actually is an entire vegan menu (you need to ask for it) with some gluten-free options. It's tasty enough but it's nothing super special or elaborate. It will fill you up though !
Pros: Special vegan menu, Gluten-free options
Cons: Not all freshly made

Many vegetarian dishes - within some remarkables like "Röst flavoured with wild herbs and served with goats creme cheese dip and salad" or "Fresh and crispy vegetable in coconut ginger sauce with lemon grass served with sesame potatoes. Also vegan dishes an a special menu with lactose and gluten free! Nice place to be and a nice garden to sit in the summer

Baked Potato Heaven! Popular place, too! - Edit
We arrived and the place was empty at 6ish and the waitress was like, "hum I'm not sure if we can fit you in..." I'm thinkin, this is the potato place right? Sure enough by the end of our meal people were streaming in! For a city that is trying to brand itself as an eco tourism destination there are no Vegan options so getting an awesome baked potato with a healthy salad was fantastic! The staff was incredibly nice and english speaking. You get two potatoes baked to perfection a salad and we opted for the guac and they gave us tomatoes and red peppers, too. I'd eat here all the time if I lived here. Great place!
