Incredible place to celebrate my birthday - Edit
I had an unforgettable birthday celebration at Julia's Vegetarian Restaurant. The elegant atmosphere accompanied by a guitarist created the perfect ambiance. Starting with the mushroom sampler and a glass of wine was a great choice. The fried baby blue oysters with cordyceps and Lions Mane were exceptional in flavor and catered to both vegan and gluten-free diets. Among them, the Lions Mane stood out as a personal favorite.
Read moreFor the main course, we opted for the California Pizza with artichokes, mushrooms, and spinach, all draped in a delightful white sauce. The pizza crust was outstanding, and while the white sauce was delicious, I'd recommend requesting it light if you want to savor the pizza's natural flavors.
To end on a sweet note, we were pleasantly surprised with a maple brownie for dessert. A delightful treat indeed.
As a side note, I must mention the unique bathrooms – they are truly a work of art unlike anything I've seen before.
Julia's Vegetarian Restaurant is undeniably a gem, offering not only delectable dishes but also an elegant atmosphere that makes it an ideal place for celebrations.
Pros: Atmosphere , Mushroom Samper plate is a must, Great service

I’d eat here every day if I could - Edit
Took a 3 day trip to Monterey and ate at Julia’s every day I was there. One of those days I went twice - once for breakfast and then later again for dinner. My parents who are non-veg also loved it so much. We got the friend egg sandwich for breakfast, king oysters mushrooms, pizza, coffee. It was all amazing I am already excited to go back on my next trip.

Delicious breakfast & exceptional people - Edit
This was our first visit to Julia’s. We ordered to go because I need outside seating. We arrived and saw the lovely outdoor seating area. Everyone at Julia’s was friendly and kind. We ate our meal there and they brought us silverware and water. The food was generous and delicious. We had the fried “egg” sandwich with paprika potatoes and the huevos rancheros (also vegan). Everything was so good and we are stuffed. Thank you to everyone at Julia’s for such a great meal! We’ll see you again, I hope.

Very impressive meal! - Edit
We had a delicious dinner, from the homemade kombucha to a chocolate walnut brownie. We started off with the mushroom sampler (the lions mane and oyster mushrooms were fantastic), then we had the smokehouse pizza (make sure to ask for vegan cheese - the cheese is the only thing not vegan when we visited), the iris salad and a brownie. The pizza crust was airy and perfectly cooked, the right amount of toppings and the bbq sauce balanced the pizza without overpowering it. The salad had a variety of veggies and rounded it out. VERY good meal! We will definitely be back to try the California pizza and a curry! They have brunch until 1 too!

Delicious Destination Vegan - Bring Friends! - Edit
I visited Julia's twice over Labor Day weekend 2021 -- and the food was quite good.
Read moreSaturday dinner, indoors:
- Grilled artichokes were outstanding
- Mixed friend mushrooms did not disappoint
- Orange Chicken - apparently a long running stand-by on the menu, I got it and wasn't excited. It was too sweet with too much drippy sauce.
- Cinnamon donut holes were just like what my grandmother made - and irresistible!
Sunday brunch, outdoors
- Mushroom flatbread with arugula was delicious
- Candy cap french toast was so good!
The bathroom is a work of art (currently it's full of cave drawings and black toilet paper). The chef is super friendly and spends time in the dining room, connecting with the diners -- great vibe and enjoyable evening even if dining solo.
Pros: Candy cap French toast, Cinnamon donut holes just like grandma made!, Grilled artichokes
Cons: Parking! Crazy on a Saturday night.

Good food, unique menu - Edit
We stopped in for brunch on our way out of town. We ordered the Fried “Egg” Sandwich and the Green “Eggs” & Avocado. The ‘eggs’ they use are made by Loving Hut, and they were fried up and tasted great. Overall the food was fantastic, and the portion sizes were good. The coffee wasn’t great, and to make matters worse, the only non-dairy milk option was coconut milk (which seemed to be canned coconut milk, not the typical beverage style coconut milk). For a relatively upscale vegetarian restaurant with an actual brunch menu, that was pretty disappointing. We’re not sure we’d go back for brunch, but the dinner menu looks great and we’ll definitely stop by to check it out next time we’re in town.

Just stunning - Edit
This is food made and served with love. The fried mushrooms are a can’t-miss. So crispy and light, beautifully seasoned without the heavy greasiness that comes with so much fried food. The fried egg sandwich was to die for. We came back the next day for more mushrooms and to try their pizza. It’s the first time I’ve had something delicately drizzled with truffle oil instead of bathed in it and it was lovely. If you like flavor and a great variety of drinks from local wines to hot tea and house-brewed kombucha, come here! It is pricier but worth every penny and you won’t leave hungry. Also shoutout to the lovely staff, you can tell they are proud to work there and service was impeccable.

Excellent menu at Great Little Bistro - Edit
Everything we had was house made. An extensive and varied menu. Fried vegan egg sandwich was house made and outstanding. Tempeh bacon was top shelf. Excellent and eclectic mushroom menu to add to any dish. Vegan dessert. While pricy, not out of line with the region.

Hidden Veg Gem! - Edit
This place is incredible! The food, staff, and space are amazing. They know their mushrooms, too! Everything we tried was fantastic! We had the porcini scallops - the mushrooms really did have a texture reminiscent to scallops but I could drink the sauce. Divine! I had the spinach and lilacep calzone and my husband had the curry. Both were delicious. Everything can be made vegan and many things can be made gluten free. The vegan cheese is high quality. Highly recommend!!

Incredible Food and Service - Edit
We had a very good experience at Julia's in Pacific Grove while visiting the area. Our server helped us with their specials; they had lobster mushroom dishes and we choose the pizza with artichoke hearts and lobster mushrooms and truffle oil. It was beautiful and delicious. We accompanied it with a small simple salad. We also tasted a few kombuchas and choose a couple to accompany our dinner.
Read moreThe service was excellent and everything was explained. We received our food in good time and with a smile. We were so impressed by the food, we took a menu with us, and in reviewing, we found other items we would like to try, so we went back the next evening. We live in Southern California, so this restaurant was a real treat for us. Those lobster mushrooms were delicious. The second evening we have an entree salad, cordycep, and the exotic mushroom sampler. It was all so delicious.
Try it is you like vegan food; you won't be disappointed.

Excellent choice for vegetarians - Edit
The location is in a strip mall behind the Safeway grocery store - easy to dismiss. However, the food was incredibly good. Lots of unusual choices of vegetables- not just tofu or eggplant dishes. The flavors were unique, with complex texture and a little sweet. For appetizers, we ordered deep-fried tamales with 4 sauces, fried mushrooms & sunshine chips. Our choices were unhealthy, but the taste was worth it. The serving size is quite generous & there was plenty to share among 4 people. The kombucha cocktail drinks were a great accompaniment. The elderberry kombucha is highly recommended.

Over-priced and underwhelmed - Edit
If the prices weren't so high I would be less critical but $19 for a 2 1/2 inch thick piece of soggy French toast was really unacceptable. It was so thick the flavor was limited to the outer part of the hunk of soft bread that was served, it was very disappointing. I thought the bananas that came with it would be good/complimentary but instead they looked and tasted like the brown bananas I sometimes forget about on my counter top except warmed up, very unappetizing.
Read moreThe breakfast sandwich was just okay. They charge you a few dollars more to make it vegan. The sauce they used overwhelmed the sandwich itself and I could barely taste the "egg" part. It also had seitan bacon but there was no flavor to it.
The potatoes were inconsistent... some were hard some were soft. Not sure how they managed to pull that one off since they were all the same size. Some were more salty than others as well.
There was also a vegan charge on the underwhelming huevos rancheros. There was barely any "huevos" it was mostly beans. This was the dish that had the most consistent flavor however it was more reminiscent of a soft enchilada dish than huevos rancheros.
All portions for the amount of money spent were below par and it wasn't that good. They only wow factor was the price for everything. I ordered take out, maybe I should've left a tip and I would've gotten better, and more, food?
We go there every time we come to this area but this will be our last time until they make some improvements.
