Most of the food we tried here was pretty good. Mapo tofu was delicious but unfortunately lacked the numbing spiciness the dish is known for. The chili oil wontons and turnip cake were very yummy. The ba wan buns were absolutely adorable, but a little disappointing. Described on the menu as a steam bun, I expected the lovely, bready, yeastiness of a typical "pork" bun, but the texture was gooey and gelatinous. To be fair, I confused ba wan with bao, so this disappointment is mostly on me -- though I do still think the buns were pretty skimpy on filling too. The butterfly pea tea drink we got was also very pretty but bland. Altogether, there were some disappointments, but they were made up for by other really delicious items, and I hope to come back someday and try some new things along with the items I enjoyed.

Street parking was pretty easy to find and we had to make a reservation in advance. We sat in the front inside section of the restaurant and the seats were comfy. Perfect for a date spot and smallish groups.
The food was very flavorful and the waiter very friendly, the bunny-shaped dumplings and bao were very charming but I liked the other things we got better. The Mami Noodle Soup was big enough to share for two people. Great experience!

The chili oil dumplings and char siu bao were excellent. The bunny baos (we had the Filipino inspired ones) were bland and the dough was an odd texture (dough was not the same as the char siu bao). The chow fun was ok. The gailan was drenched with WAY too much oyster sauce. We couldn't eat the leafy portions bcz the sauce to vegetable ratio was too much. Nice atmosphere. Staff communicated well. So it's ok, but we will not return the next time we are in Portland.

I lovee seeing vegan Chinese restaurants thrive like this one. Staff are super friendly and service was quick. I had the fiery wind noodles (GF rice noodles) and the spice level was perfect. Lots of flavor! The vegan chicken was so unique as well.

To dim-sum it up: Outstanding! - Edit
Good dim sum is something this vegan Chinese American misses a lot, so I'm always on the lookout for really good vegan dim sum when I can get it, but this is like looking for a unicorn in most places. Ah, but Portland, of course! Jade Rabbit had several guilty-pleasure dim sum items that were delicious: fried "crab" wontons, BBQ baos, dumplings, potstickers, and lotus-wrapped sticky rice. Buddha Bodai in NYC is still the exemplar for vegan dim sum, but Jade Rabbit is a very close contender, and that's saying a lot. Tea options were impressive and service was friendly and fast. Would recommend again to myself and all when in SE Portland!

My friend and I ordered the Gailan, Jade Rabbit dumplings, Chili oil wontons, Adobo, and then the Ube creme brulee for dessert. We shared everything and it was honestly all so good. The wontons were a little spicy for me, but my friend loved them. The dumplings were adorable and tasty! I really loved both the gailan and adobo. The Ube creme brulee was smooth with a lovely sweet crunch. Unfortunately, the beancurd skin dumplings that I was looking forward to trying were not available.
Read moreThe space is incredibly inviting; while we sat inside by the opening, the outside would have also been fun! We made a reservation for noon on a Friday, and although it wasn’t necessary, it was very easy and probably best during busier times. The staff was kind and helpful in explaining everything. It is on the pricier side, but well worth the visit. I personally think the service charge instead of tipping is wonderful; I enjoy supporting places with livable wages.
Will definitely go back!

Pros;
Unique vegan options, many dishes that are not easy to find vegan versions of elsewhere which was really cool. Our server was lovely, our service was fast, the food and tea was mostly fantastic. We got a couple small items and a bowl, and everything was near perfect but i will say the bao buns we got were very dry, like idk if ive had bao buns that dry before. The filling itself was good though.
The food is a little pricey as some have said, but I’d rather pay $20 for a unique and hard to find dish than spend the same on a bagel sandwich and chips at Ben and Esther’s (no shade, love B&E too, just saying).
The bean curd wrap rolls, the mung bean flat cakes and the adobo bowl were all SO good. No notes, 110% would order again
Cons: While I appreciate the sentiment of no gratuity and just doing an automatic service charge of 22%, I feel like that’s a little performative and would rather just every menu item be marked up another buck or two and them just say “Don’t worry about gratuity, we actually pay our servers above minimum wage”. The “no tip but mandatory service charge” still kind of promotes the onus of employee compensation being on the customer instead of the business, so especially in a place that already has a minimum wage of over $16/hr for servers, just fully commit to no gratuity if you’re gonna go that route. Just my opinion. If every other country can figure out how to pay employees without making it the customers problem, surely America can too. That was the only weird part to me, either give me the option to decide what I’d like to tip or remove the idea of gratuity entirely, the middle option of announcing “you don’t have to tip but we charge 22% regardless” just seemed odd
All of that being said I would 100% love to come back here next time I’m visiting Oregon

Our server let us know that this is one of three vegan dim sum places in the country. After that introduction, we were ready for a special experience.
Read moreWe ordered Siu Mai, Char Siu Bao, Chili Oil Wontons, Rangoons and Jade Rabbit Dumplings. We thought the best dishes were the Siu Mai and the Chili Oil Wontons.
For dessert, we tried the Ube Mochi Brownie, Pandan Kiwi Spongecake and Ube Creme Brulee. The brownie was our favorite.
Other reviewers have commented on the "hit or miss" nature of the different dishes. I think that's the nature of dim sum.
We knocked off a star because the price tag was more than we were expecting. When it costs $175 to feed a family of four without drinks (although some of you may think three desserts is excessive), it's hard to recommend the restaurant whole-heartedly.

Small menu with interesting options. A couple of the things we wanted to try the most they were out of. Some of the dishes we tried were outstanding, and some were not worth the price. Our favorite by far was the crab rangoons.

Overall it’s worth trying, but we probably won’t be back because of how many other places there are to try in Portland.

An off day? Slow service, some dishes seemed too salty while others just seemed a bit off, mis-charged for one dish, had to ask for utensils and napkins after food was served. The non-alcoholic drink was really tasty.

I'm not sure what happened. I used to love Jade Rabbit. Their dumplings were special and everything I'd tried was flavorful and had "wow" factor. But I recently tried their new location and a couple new menu items and a couple of old faves, and found it lacking. I can't in good conscience recommend Jade Rabbit anymore and it makes me sad. I love dim sum, and vegan dim sum is exciting, but the new Jade Rabbit is bland. The new location desperately needs a deep clean and attention to regular cleaning. The tables had greasy fingerprints, dust and cobwebs all around the windows. Even coming to the restaurant door you're greeted by old equipment behind a rusty chainlink fence. Inside to the back of the dining room the windows look out on a weed infested patio that could be a an ideal place to sit and eat on a warm spring or summer day. But it hasn't received any TLC since opening. Service was very slow. No attention to keeping water filled. Servers wore street clothes. Ours wore jeans and an oversized wrinkled t-shirt. Her apron was black knee length and also wrinkled and dirty. The attention to detail and class of the previous location is simply gone.
Read moreTo the food: We started with the pink lady salad. Nicely grilled radicchio with the bitterness I expected. But it needed acid to cut through it and unfortunately the ginger soy dressing didn't have any punch. I wanted texture and it came with fried potato sticks and mung beans, but they had lost any crunch by the time the salad was delivered.
We then had the kimchi mung bean cakes. The cake itself was fine. Nothing wow. It was however dense and lukewarm. (a theme through the dinner. Plate warmer??) It was to be served with a sauce of chili paste, soy sauce, and sesame oil, but it was so incredibly salty even the smallest dip left the bite inedible. A table near me also complained that the chili sauce was "straight up soy sauce". I agree.
Mains: We had mapo tofu and black sesame noodles. The mapo tofu again was bland. No punch, no acidity or cut from ginger I expected. The black sesame noodles had interest and flavor, they were good, not great. The noodles alone were great. I would love these in a bowl of ramen. But this dish was missing the acidity which I expected from the pickled mustard greens which I couldn't find in the dish. My main complaint was temp. Lukewarm and sauce served on the bottom made it hard to eat with chopsticks.

First off, I LOVE the vibes of the restaurant it's gorgeous in there. I do think that unfortunately a lot of items on the menu are hit or miss for me. I hadn't had dim sum since before I went vegan, and I wasn't super impressed by the dim sum here. My friend and I both got drinks, i liked mine but they didn't enjoy theirs. Then we ordered the wood ear mushroom, rangoons, lo mai ga, and puto pao bunny bao. The sauce on the wood ear mushrooms wasn't doing it for me, i felt like it wasn't as flavorful as it could have been. The rangoons were pretty good and we loved the sauce that came with it. The lo mai ga was very yummy as well, I loved the texture of it. The bunny bao was alright but was overpoweringly sweet in my opinion. While we did enjoy about half of our experience, it was pricey as hell and nothing was so amazing that I have to return.

Fiery Wind Noodle Soup was the best noodle soup ever. Rangoons were oily, yet quite tasty. We were very disappointed about the variety in regular food options. Amazing desserts (we tried all) and cocktails, but zero options for regular food without an imitation something.

Lovely atmosphere and even better food. The cocktails are really fun too! We went for a late lunch and didn’t have any problem getting a table but I could see how at dinner it would be difficult. The dishes labeled spicy are an American spicy for lack of better words so don’t be afraid.
