Maybe a bad day? - Edit
As soon as we walked in it smelled overwhelming awful and the greeting was mediocre, it seemed dirty to me but then again maybe I was turned off by the smell!? Are waitress acted rushed even though we were there at a dead time, we were one of 2 other tables, the food was bland😑 I’m sorry I don’t like to give bad reviews of restaurants but this had to be said! But again maybe it was a bad day to come which was Tuesday at around 4pm!

Solid food, well marked menu - Edit
Regular menu was well marked to indicate which things could be made vegan but it didn't look like much was vegan by default. They do have vegan cheese. We ordered the vegetarian pizza with sauce made vegan. A medium fed two hungry adults quite well. Very good and nice to have the options for pasta or pizza or stromboli.

Authentic Italian With Vegan Options - Edit
Only because Happy Cow doesn't allow five stars for an establishment that's not 100% Vegan (understandable) I am forced to rate Illiano's Grill 4-stars. There are many Vegan options offered, varied enough to satisfy just about anyone.

tutto era delizioso!

authentically Italian, surprisingly Vegan - Edit
Thanks to Happy Cow and your own reader reviews, I was alerted to the many vegan items highlighted on the menu of this one branch of Illiano’s. While the printed in-house menu clearly indicates which dishes are vegetarian and which vegetarian dishes can be customized vegan, the online menu does not. (This menu discrepancy is true at other eateries, too.) So I wrote to Illiano’s and asked about their vegan options. In response, they sent me a PDF of the printed menu along with a personal reply. Quote:
Read more“Our vegan options throughout the menu are identified with a little green leaf with the word Vegan. There are many choices. Our homemade pizza dough and our gluten-free dough both are vegan. We use Vevan vegan cheese. Our pasta options that have that symbol are made to order as a customer would like. For example, the Pasta Primavera, in lieu of cream sauce can be made with oil and garlic or a marinara. The Pasta with Wild Mushroom will be made in a marsala wine sauce without the cream. Salads and sides of veggies have not been marked with the Vegan symbol but can be prepared vegan as well.”
After decades of driving past during my return trips from Willimantic Food Coop and often noting its parking lot overflowing with cars, I stopped and ate here just two days after receiving their thorough reply. It’s all true, and more. Even better, the printed menu indicates that the pasta can be chosen as Whole Wheat. So we ordered a whole wheat pasta dish, which came with a side salad; a small Pizza, which was huge; and from among the Contorni (side orders), the Sautéed Broccoli, Mushrooms, and String Beans combo. In addition, bread and olive oil was provided for our table. We arrived famished, and departed full. While the entire meal was excellent, we especially liked underpriced combo of sautéed veggies. Next time, I will order it in a double dose.
The welcoming and knowledgeable waitstaff are totally familiar with all the vegan options and the service was impeccable. I addition to our gracious waitress, a member of the Illiano extended family who spoke fluent English with a fresh Italian accent ambled by and greeted us. The interior is very cozy with a wall mural of Naples and other artworks, some signed by a member of the Illiano family, as though we were dining in their living room. We felt quite at home.
Pros: the many clearly labeled vegan options, the choice of whole wheat pasta, the combo of perfectly sautéed veggies

I would give 5 stars if allowed. Amazing vegan pizza and stromboli. Mildly upset I didn't find this place sooner but will definitely return.

Worm in my food - Edit
Found a worm in my salad. Called Illianos and they comped me less than the price of the salad, but the experience ruined the entire meal for my family. While they were nice on the phone, they were passing it off as a common occurance and mildy apologetic. I don't feel they did enough to rectify the solution. I was a long term customer, but no longer.

The food is amazing!!! The owner is vegan and is very helpful in picking out amazing pasta dishes for vegan customers. Their pizzas have vegan cheese. The selection is substantial. The food was delicious! This will be our new go to place when we are in town.

Vegan Pizza - Edit
I'm so glad Illiano's offers vegan pizza now! The "cheese" they use melts beautifully and you can add it to any pizza. They also have a few vegan pastas listed on the menu. The staff is friendly knowledgeable about vegan options. One of the waitresses told us she is vegan and even mentioned one of the owners are as well! Hope this means there are even more options added in the future.

Good food and friendly staff - Edit
Ask for the vegan menu! They use Vevan cheese. We got the White Vegetarian, plain cheese pizza, and pasta primavera. I loved the pasta but added some salt to it. The pizza was delicious. The crust was nice and crispy. The waitress was wonderful. The owner (I think?) was so friendly and cared about us having a good time. I went with my family and my friend and her kids. Total of 4 adults and 7 kids. They put us towards the back of the restaurant which was somewhat separated from the rest. It’s was appreciated because the kids can be loud and I didn’t want to disrupt other diners. Prices were good!

Bad Service - Edit
I love that this place has a great vegan menu and I’ve had good pizzas there. Unfortunately this is the fourth time they have messed up my order. I ordered a vegan cheese pizza with tomatoes and basil. They gave me a white pizza with pesto. This was not a vegan pizza. I clarified on the phone that it needs to be vegan and they still messed up. This is the fourth time they’ve given me the wrong thing so I don’t recommend coming here.

Good vegan options. - Edit
Ask for the vegan menu! I really wanted soup, but ALL of them (even lentil, minestrone, and pasta e fabulous) have chicken broth, so beware. The waitress was also vegan, so she was very helpful! I ended up getting a small veggie pizza with vegan cheese. They PILED the veggies on, so it was very filling. One star taken away because the veggies weren’t entirely cooked - raw onion on pizza is a bit weird, but it was edible. In all, a good experience and I’d go back if I were traveling in the area again.

Fair Amount of Options - Edit
Lots of different options on the menu for vegans- pizza and pasta included. I wish there were more Whole Foods available (and creatively used) rather than just Italian foods without dairy cheese
