** CLOSED DOWN FOR GOOD ** :(

I posted recently that I found out from a server at Himal Chuli (the Himalayan restaurant just down the street) that their momocha are never vegan... but the Veggie Momos here at the Hungry Badger (they are handmade dumplings, whether you spell it long or shorthand) are ALWAYS vegan... and guess what? I think they are the best.

Vegan items here are clearly labeled, and if there are any questions the sensational staff is happy to answer them, or modify anything that they can. The food here is baseline SPICY, but they can modify that, too (but you shouldn't because it is amazing.) Vegan items include: the veggie fritters, the Veggie Momo (dumplings), the Alu Momo (potato pierogi with house tomato dipping sauce), the samosa with potato, peas and pepper filling, served with cranberry sauce, French fries (don't scoff they are awesome), the bar nuts (which are so much more delicious and complex than they sound with salt, fresh garlic, ginger, onion, cilantro, lime juice and avocado oil), the tofu rice bowl with wild rice pilaf, seasonal veggies and cranberries), the sensational Eight-Sister soup (which you can get with their Momo), Fresh House juice, salads, and the show-stopping Rosemary Roll, which is worth traveling for by itself. It is like a steamed dumpling, with garlic and fresh rosemary, rolled into the shareable shape of a rose. The Momo can be ordered with or without a warm chili sauce on top.

The food here is to die for, but the staff is what makes this place really amazing. This place is family run, and the service is excellent. All you have to do is talk to them to get your questions answered, and to get what you want. They are simply the best.

This cafe is located ABOVE It's SUGAR, and the cozy dining room looks over State Street. Climb the steps and get some of the best food in Madison - and SAVE ROOM because you won't leave Hungry ( I'm going to trade mark that for them.)

** IMPORTANT NOTE: BUY the bourbon hot sauce in the bottle - they make their own, it is vegan, and it is SAUCESOME. Sorry. Not sorry.

Pros: Loads of amazing, five-star vegan food, New cultural experience, yet all clearly labeled!, The staff is sensational

Cons: Parking near State?
