Great to Have but also Not so Great - Edit
First of all, I think it’s a great initiative that this restaurant somewhere on the Bavarian countryside exists in the first place. I’m definitely happy that this place exists and it does its job in filling a blank spot on the veggie map in Bavaria.
Read moreNow to the not so great part: the food is simply not that good. There’s no classic Bavarian cuisine, but rather simple dishes like Schnitzel with fries, Gyros or burgers.
Fair enough. The food itself, however, is also quite simple. To me it seems like this restaurant had exactly those same dishes 15-20 years ago, and since then it has never adapted its dishes to the advancements of the plant-based cuisine. The alternatives at Hirschbachstüberl however taste quite plain and seem to have missed those developments. Which is a pity, as it is really not that hard nowadays to get a tasty vegan Schnitzel, Gyros etc nowadays.
In addition to that, ‘classic vegan’ food like the fries etc are also nothing that stands out positively. Therefore, as much as I appreciate that this place exists, unfortunately I cannot recommend it.

the menu on the website is not up to date and some images here are misleading. the restaurant does not serve pizza or pasta any longer. as main dishes they primarily have burgers, schnitzel, gyros, and doener.

personally i don't like pets in restaurants. there were two cats and one dog.
however, the fact that it's a veg restaurant in the bavarian countyside, makes the whole thing lovely.

Wir waren vor ein paar Tagen im Hirschbachstüberl und verbuchen die Erfahrung insgesamt als sehr positiv! Es gibt eine große Auswahl an klar gekennzeichneten veganen Gerichten (von "Schnitzel" mit Pommes, über Burger bis hin zu Curry), denen aber meiner Ansicht nach etwas die Raffinesse fehlt. Um meinen Begleiter zu zitieren: "Es war lecker, aber nicht erleuchtend." Selbiges kann man für die Desserts allerdings nicht behaupten, denn der vegane Käsekuchen und das vegane Tiramisu waren absolut köstlich!!

Cozy, simple, typical Bavarian food - Edit
I consider myself lucky to have found this typical Bavarian restaurant. Not hip or niche, or “fancyvegan”. Just hearty, tasty food that’s typical for the region, where the salad is (way) more than a single leaf and a slice of cucumber. All this for a good price.
Read moreThe outside area is cozy and nice, and the owner’s dog calmly greets every guests and welcomes cuddles from those who want to give them. We had a relaxed time with good food and will absolutely come again when in the region.

We were looking forward to visiting the restaurant because we like to go out for a hearty vegan meal - vegan goulash, vegan schnitzel, vegan roulades, all very tasty, if it's done well.

However, the restaurant offers a rather simple culinary experience that leaves a lot to be desired, especially for guests who value good vegan cuisine or who like to cook vegan food themselves.
Unfortunately, the standard of cooking fell short of our expectations.
The atmosphere was not very inviting, as the interior was dark and looked slightly neglected. Perhaps it was because we were the only guests at the time.
We also found the interaction with the owner a little unpleasant, she tried very hard but was a little too pushy for our taste.
We think it's great that restaurants decide to offer a purely plant-based menu (and that in Bavaria) and we totally support it, but we wouldn't visit this restaurant again.

Wir sind Stammgäste und das hat natürlich gleich mehrere Gründe. Es gibt haufenweise pflanzliches Essen- mindestens vegan. Super viele Klassische Gerichte, wie Pizza, „Schnitzel“ und Gyros. Und auch Vitaminbomben, denn die Salate sind riesig und frisch.

Leckeres veganes Essen - Edit
Das Essen war sehr lecker. Hatten eine Süßkartoffel Suppe als Vorspeise, einen Gyros Teller und Rigatoni Marinara als Hauptgang und ein Stück Tiramisu Torte zur Nachspeise. Alles wirklich gut abgeschmeckt.

Deftige vegane Küche - Edit
Wir waren während der Corona Maßnahmen vor Ort und konnten daher nur Essen zum mitnehmen bestellen. Deshalb kann ich zum Ambiente keine Angaben machen. Die Bedienung war sehr nett und zuvorkommend. Wir haben Gyros, Schnitzel und eine Pizza bestellt. Das Essen war sehr lecker und vor allem das Gyros hat es uns angetan. Wir kommen gerne wieder.

Went there due to happy cow recs after hiking. Very traditional Bavarian Interieur. Food arrived SUPER fast. Some weird talks about conspiracy theories by guests (obviously not the owners fault). Sever not wearing a mask but keeping distance. Did not like I didn’t finish my food (sorry but I was full, lady!)

We were on vacation in Achenkirch and one of the most vegan things you can do is going half an hour by car just to have a meal. And what a meal we had! hot chocolate, thuna-pizza and burgers with cheese and beef. Amazing!

Fantastic place. Had the best gyros i have ever tasted - and it is homemade as well. If You are nearby do try this place. It is worth a drive 😊 I recommend the gyros plateau with fries and salad - very, very good 👍
