Tasty wraps

So far, I’ve had the bhaji wrap - it was great - tasty flavours and crispy bhaji balls; and the hoisin “duck” wrap - sweetish sauce with seitan chunks.
Pleasant service.
They also visit events around England.

Pros: nice staff

Cons: Sometimes sells out of “duck” in late afternoon., Opens only at 12 noon, wish it was earlier.

That cashew cheese! *chefs kiss*

Really happy to see Herbivorous open up in Sheffield! Tried quite a few things now but my favourite has to be the Philly cheese fries! The Philly cheesesteak sandwich is also mega and I have to mention the Xmas burger! I’ll be back in December hoping to see it return!

Pros: Fully vegan, Price, Cool location

Hit and miss

Sometimes it's good other times it's really average food. Doesn't help the food always arrives cold via deliveroo

Average

Been twice. Chips are OK. Good taste. Who cannot cook blooming chips though?
Mac n chayze is underwhelming . No savoury taste, a sickly sweet cashew vibe instead. A bit meh.

Delicious

I had the big kahuna burger and fries and ate it so fast I forgot to take a picture. Delicious

Went back for the chicken burger which was really something else. Gorgeous.

Ribs and mud pie were incredible. We had the lemonade and it was utterly undrinkable though - the bottom half was thick syrup that wouldn't pass through the straw and the top half was super sour. It wasn't just mine either, all 3 of our drinks were like it

Delicious vegan junk food

Really good food. The lunch meal deal is a steal. Highly recommend the "chicken" burgers. The "beef" burgers are less good though.

Good but salad tomorrow 😳

This food stall inside the market caters to a junk-food crowd and, while it’s good, there’s room for improvement. The chili cheesesteak was packed with flavor, and the fries were decent. The spicy chili mayo was tasty, though a bit too thick for my taste.

I was in a hurry to catch Freya Beer, and this spot fit the bill perfectly. Overall, it’s a solid option for a quick bite on the go. Friendly staff and a lively, mixed food court atmosphere make it worth a try!

Disappointing unfortunately

My partner and I thought we’d check out herbivorous as we have been to most other vegan places in Sheffield, we ordered a regular cheeseburger, fries and the mac n cheese with seitan bacon.
The burger unfortunately was not good, it was very small and flat about the size of any regular fast-food burger, except it was over 4x the price, and the flavour was not there either. The mac and cheese was an improvement but not seasoned very much. Thankfully the chips were nice so that was a bit of a saving grace.
Unfortunately I can’t recommend the items we ordered, disappointing as others seem to rate the food very highly, perhaps we didn’t pick the best items but the items we got definitely require improvement.

Pros: Friendly service

Cons: Sad burger , Overpriced

Banging fries, average burger

We got salt and pepper fries and cashew cheese fries and they were fantastic, couldn't fault them. The big Kahuna burger however was disappointing. Lots in it and hard to eat but somehow didn't taste of much.

Pros: Great fries , Fast delivery

Cons: Meh burger

Best burger ever!

Probably the best vegan burger I've ever had! I had the Nashville hot 'chicken' burger with paprika fries and a ginger & lime drink. A really great lunch deal.
Cool location within a food hall Kommune. My dog was welcomed & brought a bowl of water.

Pros: Food was top notch, Dog friendly , Cool location

Excellent chips. Burger so so

I had the southern fried burger and fries. Fries were perfect but had a bit too much seasoning on it and felt a tad grainy due to over seasoning.

The souther fried burger was ok but not to temple of seitan standards. The patty was not a patty but a huge lump of seitan and the batter was kinda burnt which made eating the burger a bit unpalatable especially with it being so dry. I recommend more mayo or coleslaw or something to counter the dryness of the seitan patty. Also hope they can fry the patty less so it’s less burnt/crispy tasting.

Finally, the lady at the counter was super amazing and patient when taking me through the menu options. Place would be a 5/5 if the burger quality improved imo.

Pros: Friendly staff, Vegan, Good chips (minus over seasoning)

Lovely burger and fries here. Just went for the standard one but will try the fancier options next time! Located in Kommune so not too much hassle to get a seat either.

Herbivorous - Sheffield

Based in a large food hall in the centre of Sheffield, the only all vegan business in Kommune. Great to see a vegan place popping up in this central location. Grab a table, QR code shows you all the menus. You can order at the table, they charge a £1 order processing fee, or head over to the stand to order in person.

The lunch time deal, which actually finishes at 5pm Tues-Fri, is good value at £10 for a main, side and drink. Sides can either be mac and cheese, corn ribs or fries. I went with the southern fried burger, corn ribs and the strawberry lemonade. I also asked for a kids portion of the mac and cheese which was £6, the regular size is £9 which to me is a pretty high price point for a plain mac and cheese.

The corn ribs were delicious and crispy, the accompanying sauce had just the right amount of heat. The southern fried burger was very plain, iceberg lettuce and a mayo topping to me felt a little dated. My friend had one of the ‘beef style’ burgers and also felt it was quite basic. The seitan burger is however made in house and was good, not hard or chewy like some can be, the coating crispy and nicely spiced.
The strawberry lemonade was ok, a bit more like squash.
The mac and cheese was to takeaway for my daughter, who is a mac and cheese fiend and also vegan, but I had a little try before taking it home. I have to say it was very bland, no seasoning, no cheesy flavour, no real sauce or creaminess at all, and certainly no lovely gooey stretchiness. Very dry, almost like plain boiled pasta, with breadcrumbs on the top. My friend has had the mac and cheese on a previous visit, although theirs was creamy they also felt it had very little flavour and was not cheesy at all. I took it home, my daughter tried it and also agreed, but ate it after adding numerous ingredients. Looking online it sometimes looks very yellow and saucy, so maybe the quality of this dish isn’t always consistent.

Overall I don’t know if I’d return, very mixed experience today and the menu for me was just not varied enough. But others really like it, so give it a try and make your own mind up about Herbivorous. Reviews here seem to be on various locations, not just Sheffield.

City centre vegan place!

It's great to have a vegan place in the city centre (even if it's in an omni foodhall).

used to eat with Herbivorous when they had the kitchen in the vegan social club in Sheff called Heartcure Collective, so it's great they're back in Sheffield again :)

On this visit, our first in Kommune since 2019(?), we headed straight for Herbivorous of course! We'd already eaten but wanted to say hi and support them so had a portion of ribs and a ginger & lime drink. We were given a device that would buzz when the food was ready so off we went to find somewhere to sit.

The ribs were a lovely texture, not too chewy, moist and tasty. The sauce was a good consistency, the sides of mayo and pickles was a nice touch. The drink was refreshing.

It was good to see in Kommune you can help yourself to water at a water station at the end of the bar. All the food units are in one area and the seating is on a few levels with steps or ramp access, there are toilets as well.

Pros: City centre vegan eatery, eat in or take out

Thursday 1.8.24 food delivery - food arrived hot and delicious. The loaded mac & cheese had three chunky ribs on top. The pasta was cooked to perfection and the ribs were tender, not overly chewy like in some places. The corn ribs were a welcome veg addition to my meal. Lovely and tender. It’s just great being able to have food from an all vegan place delivered to your door!

5 ⭐️ street food

Herbivorous is inside Kommune. It’s a vegan outlet. Plenty of options. I went for the classic Philly cheesesteak and salt & pepper fries. Just delicious. Good portion size. Will be eating here again.

Vegan food at Kommune!

As someone who only eats at vegan and vegetarian places now, it's so good to be able to eat at Kommune like everyone else.

The chips were just salted as we didn't want paprika or the fancy chips on the menu. Nicely cooked and seasoned, 5/5

Bbq 'ribs" texture is really good, the bbq sauce is too rich though, felt sickly and heavy after the third "rib", the portion size is decent for the price. The pickles and the sauce are good, 4/5

Burger was alright, quite salty and the "bacon" were quite burnt lol, the ends were thoroughly hard and crunchy, 3/5

Will be back to try more of the menu!

Food stall can be found opposite Project D stall.

Went to the stall in Piccadilly Gardens, we really wanted to sit in somewhere but a lot of vegan places are closed on a Tuesday!

Burgers were tasty & fries were nice as well! Good value for money with the £10 meal deal as well

In love with their bbq ribs. I always get a portion when going to Picadilly.
Also joined their seitan class because of it, can’t wait.

10/10

Now operating out of Big Hands (but also have a restaurant in Withington), Herbivorous are one of our all time favourite restaurants. Their cheesy chips are out of this world- so cheesy and indulgent but without that plasticy taste vegan cheese sometimes has. ALso you have to try their philly cheesesteak - some of the best seitan we've had.
