Oasis in the middle of a parking lot - Edit
Stopped here for lunch. It’s literally in the middle of a parking lot but has shaded seats outdoors as well as a drive thru. We had the jackfruit BBQ nachos and two tofu poke bowls. The staff were so nice. The jackfruit nachos were fantastic and, even though I’m not a fan of jackfruit, they’ve really done a good job of it. While my carnivorous husband thought the tofu poke was a little on the salty side I thought it was really good and flavorful. I could go back here again and again.

Easy stop for vegan food - Edit
This was very convenient to drive through or stop at and the staff was really friendly. I had the poke one time and the jackfruit nachos the next time. I wished the poke was a little larger portion and the Jack fruit nachos were a little too sweet for me. But over all, lots of options and would come try more dishes next time.

Our favorite food in Kona. - Edit
We ate here several times throughout the week we were there. So good. I loved the southwestern breakfast burrito. My family loved the nachos. The chocolate chip cookies were so good. The only bummer is they were out of chik'n the whole week we were there, so there were several menu items we wanted to try but couldn't.

Great Vegan Food near Kona Airport - Edit
We ordered the nachos, chili dog and chocolate cake. The jackfruit nachos were smoky and delicious. The chili on the chili dog was very tasty. The chocolate cake was a huge, rich treat! We’re coming back for more!

The staff is so kind! I got the chick’n sandwich and some kombucha and it was so good. I will be back before the end of my trip! If you park in the parking lot though you do have to pay for parking and it’s almost 8$ an hour

Very good vegan food with outdoor seating - Edit
My daughter is vegan and had jackfruit pulled “pork” twice while here in Kailua-Kona. She really liked it. I had the bowl with brown rice- it was good and very filling. My husband had the “tuna” salad. He really enjoyed it. We shared the dragon fruit smoothie- it was good but expensive at almost $10. Nice to have a fully vegan restaurant option.

Healthy & Creative! - Edit
I really appreciate the creative menu items and drinks. The nachos were absolutely delicious. The chickpea salad was a good healthy option. Very fresh. This is like a food truck type thing in a parking lot so casual vibes for sure. I also loved the cute vegan messages and laminated cards at the tables. I wanted my non vegan friends to read them 😈😇

Disappointed! - Edit
We had quite a disappointing experience here.
Read more15 minutes after our order was taken, we were told that they forgot to tell us earlier that they had run out of patties. By the time we got our food, 40 minutes had passed.
We got the pona burger and the chicken sandwich. Both were very bland. They were both seasoned only with mayo and ketchup, not too great!
We also got the nachos for the table. The jackfruit topping was well-made and the dish was addictive.
The dragonfruit smoothie was good too. I liked that it was less sweet and quite filling.
The ingredients seemed fresh overall.

I don't understand the hype - Edit
Because this place was so highly rated we made sure to make the drive to get some yummy vegan food during our trip to Hawaii. First, let me say the prices are just too high. We were able to get better vegan food at/near the resorts and the price was either the same or less in some instances. Regardless of the high price, the banana berry smoothie was delicious (5/5 rating). We ordered two vegan pizzas (alfredo pizza and the meat lovers pizza) and they weren't very good (1/5 rating). The dough was bleh and they put way too much sauce. Ordered the "chicken" caesar salad (1/5 rating). Ordered two chocolate chip cookies (2/5 rating), one of the cookies was okay but the second one was hard as a rock. And lastly, ordered a cream pie cookie (4/5 rating) this was really good and not super sweet. I felt it was important to add this review bc other people have raved about how amazing the food is and it's really just okayyy but when you factor in how overpriced it is for what you get then it's even worse.

Disappointed - Edit
I had the BLT in October and the bacon was like paper - the sandwich was really dry. It was rated high so I was excited to try it! Just wasn’t what I expected. We also didn’t get our lemonades until the meal was finished as they didn’t have ice until then. Just all around disappointing.

Delicious vegan food with a Hawaiian flair - Edit
We were here three years ago on our last trip to Kona and were soooo happy Herbivores survived the pandemic. They have a variety of delicious vegan food, some with a Hawaiian flair! We were in Kona for a week and ate six meals here. Yes, it’s that good! 😋.
Read moreAnd character?!? Yes!! Herbivores sits in the middle of a parking lot— it is cute and quirky with lots of great reading materials on veganism and nutrition on the tables. (There is ONLY outdoor seating and the number of covered seats has expanded since last time.)
Especially good: the breakfast burrito, barbecue jackfruit sandwich, Pono burger, jackfruit nachos, dragonfruit smoothie, and of course the chocolate cake—rich and chocolatey but not too sweet! (And the chocolate chip cookies too!) Enjoy!!
Pros: Food has a Hawaiian flair
Cons: Most sandwiches come with potato chips
