Perfect after touring north 500 - Edit
We toured Scotland and the North 500 for our holidays and ended our trip in Edinburgh. In the evening we could park our rental car almost right next to the restaurant for free.
Read moreWe had no-fish-chips, macaroni and cheese, a chocolate cake, coke and soy-coffee. Everything was amazing and the restaurant has a great vibe. Perfect for our last day in Scotland, thanks!

Not for me - Edit
This place is quite good - I would award 3.5 stars if I could.
Read moreHowever, I found the food to be too heavy and junky for me. I'm more into restaurant food than bar food, so maybe I shouldn't have gone here, so perhaps my own fault.
If this is what you're into, you'll like it but wasn't my cup of tea.

Top-quality vegan food - Edit
We didn't make a reservation, the restaurant was full and we had come from Glasgow, but we were able to get takeout which we really appreciated. The texture of the mushroom scallops were so realistic and the whole ensemble (with black pudding sausage and mushy peas) was incredibly tasty, even from a takeout box. We also got banana blossom fish and chips (really yum all round) and the pizza which was also great, even though they forgot the garlic sausage 😉 This is a must-try restaurant and worth the trip to Leith.

Outstanding - Edit
We went here for an evening meal with our two young kids. Really chilled out atmosphere with friendly staff. We ate pizza, chips and the satay noodle bowl. The food was delicious and they were accommodating of our fussy kids and their menu tweaks (‘no green bits mum’). Will definitely visit again. A real gem.

Great local community restaurant with delicious food - Edit
This is definitely my favourite restaurant in Edinburgh! We had the no-fish and chips, mac’n cheese and the vegan chicken with marinara sauce (forgot the name). I really liked that the „fish“ wasn’t made out of tofu but out of a plant that had a similar texture to fish!

Good food, service hit or miss - Edit
Harmonium is very local so we've been a few times. Food is always great, and really nice atmosphere. I have found the service to be slow quite a few times and also often aloof.

The no-fish & chips is to die for - mad good. I’d recommend the scallops & pizzas too, such great dough. Will definitely be making a return trip before we head home south.

Great place for a relaxed meal with upmarket offerings m - Edit
I adore Harmonium. I think what I love most is their ability to relatively seamlessly offer a great range of food choices making this an easy place to take a group of people or family with diverse food needs. The menus are not overly “veganised” which does feel a little anxiety provoking but trust them! I’ve tried a few different things off their menu now... the pizzas are fantastic (I loved the addition of haggis and potatoes to a pizza!) the macaroni cheese is beautiful and my vegetarian friend happily enjoyed it. The chips with nooch and truffle oil are crispy, savoury and delicious. I enjoyed the chicken burger but felt it was a little middle of the road.
Read moreI also tried the banana blossom fish and chips which was bizarre. I’ve never tried fish before (vegetarian most of my life before veganism) and for me it was a little too realistic. It was cleverly done with sprouted seeds (I think??) container in it to act as bones? My husband tried it and was extremely impressed having eaten fish in the past. The total standout for me was the mushroom scallops however. Beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. Cleverly constructed, well presented and very convincing.
For puddings, I’ve sampled them all and the standout would have to be the pineapple upside down cake although the brownie and sundaes are good. The addition of whipped or squirt cream to the Sundae would be a nice touch (I always feel extra happy and grateful whenever I have squirty cream as a vegan for some reason?!)
Definitely try harmonium. And definitely book for an evening meal since this place is busy!

Not bad... - Edit
We ordered a pizza "verdura mediterannea" (pesto based with grilled pepper, cherry tomatoes, courgettes, aubergines and toasted pine nuts) 10.75 £ and "chicken parmigiana" (breaded chicken cutlet, topped with ragu, mozzarella and parmesan, served with spaghetti marinara) 11.75£
Read moreThere wasn't enough food we were still hungry at the end despite the high price we paid.
So we needed to order a dessert (an harmonium Sundae) 5.75£
There was rock music aloud, prices are not cheap too.
Pros: Tasty food
Cons: Expensive , Not enough food, Rock music out loud the whole lunch

Great pizzas and beer - Edit
An all-vegan menu of meaty-type dishes, served in a tasteful wood-paneled place down a quiet back street.
Read moreI had a pizza with fennel and sausage balls and really loved it. My boyfriend had a burger. He said it was "OK", (though he's Norwegian, and regards getting really enthusiastic about food uncool and pointless.) Our local craft ales were at just the right temperature and hit the spot. The dessert menu was quite limited, so we didn't bother trying any.
Pros: Nice building, tastefully done-up. Great ambience., It's all vegan, The pizzas are big and ace
Cons: Very fake-meat. Needs a bean burger!, Poor and limited choice of desserts

Great for Junk Food vegans. - Edit
All vegan food. But, it’s just vegan alternatives to meat. So, you don’t get anything that creative; just vegan versions of normal restaurant staples (pizza, burger, etc.)

Great food - Edit
Everything we tried was really tasty! We ended up going for our evening meal two days in a row because the first day was so good. We had macaroni cheese, a chicken burger, fish and chips and chicken parmesan and all were really good. I also had some tiffin that I took away to eat later.
Read moreOnly downside is we found some of the staff a bit cold. We hadn't booked a table and they didn't seem very keen on giving us one, despite there being lots of empty tables (understand these may have been booked but the staff seating us just didn't seem that friendly toward us). We did get seated both times though.
Pros: Tasty food, Good prices
Cons: Not very big and is fully booked often

Deliciousness - Edit
My fiancée and I are up in Edinburgh before I return to work, I picked this restaurant out for us and have to say we weren’t disappointed. In fact it was that delicious one of the starters we order the “Pan seared king oyster mushroom scallops", we are going to use as the starter to our wedding breakfast. It literally gave us food for thought and brilliant inspiration. A must visit, as well as the food, the atmosphere and the staff are lovely and friendly.

Harmonium is a dream come true, and it's a great addition to Leith's vegan offerings. It's right on the 35 bus route from old town as well, so don't let the distance put you off!
Read moreThe food is decadent and indulgent but simultaneously a cut above most other vegan restaurants in terms of classiness. Harmonium feels like a serious, suave restaurant, something that sometimes gets lost at veggie/vegan places.
On my first visit I had a pizza with garlic sausage and seitan pepperoni, amongst other stuff. It was far and away the beat vegan pizza I've ever had, and the portion is generous enough to take some home.
Returned a few weeks later with my partner, but should have made reservations for a Sunday night. In any case the staff were happy to take our info and we went off to kill an hour or so before being seated. We had the mushroom scallops to share, which were lovely. I had the parmagiania and my partner had a pizza, both were delicious and filling. Then we split the giant cookie dessert. Everything was amazing, and we had a few interesting cocktails as well.
Wholeheartedly recommend, good for a special occasion or just a decadent weekday dinner! Book ahead for weekends though.
Pros: atmosphere, cocktail list, variety in the menu

Great place, will be back! - Edit
My 9 month old boy and I have thoroughly enjoyed our lunch at Harmonium this afternoon. After careful consideration and so many enticing options to choose from we decided to share a haggis pizza which was delicious and to my surprise didn't need any condiments at all! Both my boy and i loved it. I look forward to coming back and trying out more dishes and especially the desserts.
