100% Stay Away for Vegetarians

I would strongly advise any vegetarians—or anyone with dietary restrictions—to think very carefully before dining here.

I visited today for lunch with my family, I ordered a vegetarian Thai green curry, clearly marked as vegetarian with a prominent green sticker. This wasn’t a vague assumption or menu confusion—the dish was explicitly labelled as suitable for vegetarians. Despite this, the curry contained chicken.

This is not a minor mistake. For vegetarians, this represents a fundamental breach of trust. When a restaurant labels food as vegetarian, there is a clear expectation that proper preparation standards, ingredient separation, and verification procedures are in place. Serving meat in such a dish suggests either:
• a serious breakdown in kitchen processes, or
• a lack of care in handling dietary requirements.

Either scenario is concerning.

What makes this worse is that Giggling Squid - Chislehurst actively promotes itself as offering vegetarian and vegan options. If a restaurant markets itself this way, the expectation of accuracy and food safety is even higher.

To be clear: this is not about taste or service quality—it is about food integrity and customer safety. For some people, dietary requirements are not just preferences but ethical commitments or even medical necessities. Mistakes like this can have serious consequences.

While reviews of the restaurant are generally mixed, with some customers praising the food and others criticising declining quality or inconsistency, an incident like this goes beyond subjective opinion—it raises real concerns about reliability.

Bottom line

If you are vegetarian, vegan, or have any strict dietary requirements, I would not recommend taking the risk here. A clearly labelled vegetarian dish containing meat is not an acceptable error—it’s a failure in basic food handling standards.

Good Thai food but was served chicken instead of vegetable dish

Clearly labelled vegan options and very tasty food, but was served chicken instead of a vegetable cashew stir fry.

Nice but expensive

Ate here a few weeks as ‘vegan options’ were advertised on the board outside. Whole separate vegan menu was offered. The food was lovely but it was expensive.

Pros: Lots of vegan options , Very tasty

Cons: Expensive
