Wir waren während unserem Aufenthalt in Busan dort und ich bin nur zufällig rein, weil sie der einzige Ort waren, wo man so spät noch etwas Veganes zu essen bekommen hat (die frittierten Austernpilze waren der Hammer). Dass das eine Makgeolli-Bar war, haben wir dann erst auf den zweiten Blick gesehen und das war echt eine nette Überraschung, denn wir hatten bis dahin noch nie Makgeolli probiert. Der super liebe Kellner Minsu hat uns durch die Karte geleitet und viel zu den einzelnen Reisweinen erklärt, sodass wir noch einen unerwartet tollen Abend dort hatten. Ich würde bei jedem Besuch in Busan wieder hin!

This place was way more elegant that what I had painted in my mind. We had the fried tofu and it tastes really great. The entree they give you with cabbage is vegan by default. Too bad they don't have no-bubble soft drinks (only 3 options among the non-alcoholic beverages).

Soooo… my wife and I walked up the hill in the hot humid evening at 7pm to eat at Home Bistro in Haeundae but they turned us away even with open tables saying the kitchen was closed. We eventually found a cab and this place came recommended by Chef JD from the I LOVE HANSIK vegan cooking class we took earlier in the day and was open later (until 11:30pm). We were also told that we HAD TO TRY makgeolli (an alcoholic Korean fermented rice beverage) and this is a makgeolli brewery. Well… HOLY WOW talk about a HAPPY ACCIDENT!!! This place has 3 vegan options: the fried enoketaki mushrooms, the sweet potato and corn jeon (Korean pancake), and the crispy fried chili tofu. All of it was AMAZING and the makgeolli was also amazing. If you drink, get the elderberry coconut makgeolli… it is unlike anything you will ever find and so good. Like an alcoholic smoothie. This place reminds us how fortuitous it is to be a vegan wanderer and find random places on the other side of the planet that blow your mind wide open. Also, as a graphic designer, A on their typography and fun graphic and interior design.

The restaurant have their own magkkeolli brewery and let us have a try, the mint and lemon one was delicious!
Staff was super kind, speaks English.

Visited on a rainy day, the perfect time for jeon and makgeolli.

We tried a few of their craft makgeolli flavours: orange and coriander seed, Sichuan pepper with lemon zest, and lime with apple. All of them were delicious and really different in the best way.
The food was perfect. The tofu nuggets were the best I've ever had, the fried mushrooms with mustard were so good, and the corn jeon was crispy and satisfying. We loved everything.
Easily my favourite meal in Korea.

We got everything that can be vegan and veg, and the staff were helpful in explaining what had mayo/ fish flakes in it. Every dish was very good, and their brewed rice wine (makgeoli) makes this an experience worth trying.

Vegan-Friendly Modern Bar - Edit
Brewery serving housemade makgeolli (which they apparently also provide to Odem in Singapore), as well as domestic craft soda by Lark Sodas as non-alcoholic options. Do note that each person has to order a minimum of 1 drink. I don't drink but I visited this modern bar mainly for the bar bites, including 2 options that are vegan by default and 2 options that can be veganised (with proper vegan dips as replacement etc, not just removing ingredients). Great vibes, friendly staff, and most importantly I was grateful for how vegan-friendly and delicious their menu was! I was especially impressed by the Fried Tofu and Spicy and Sour Sauce, which reminded me of chicken nuggets. They even served a vegan barley and beanpaste dip with cabbage as a complimentary appetiser. Opens till late and walking distance from Gwangalli Beach (known as a good spot for viewing Gwangan Bridge light-up every night and Gwangalli M Drone Light Show every Saturday)!

En tant que vegan, nous avons trouvé ce restaurant grâce à l'application Happy Cow, et ce fut une excellente découverte ! La nourriture était délicieuse, l'endroit branché, et le patron très réactif et serviable. Le makgeolli artisanal était particulièrement savoureux, ajoutant une touche authentique à l'expérience. Un lieu incontournable à Busan pour une cuisine de qualité. Visité en septembre 2024, nous y reviendrons avec plaisir !

Read moreThe experience started on a high note thanks to the wonderful waiter(owner?). Not only was he incredibly accommodating and friendly, but he was also fully knowledgeable about veganism. His enthusiasm was evident as he even took the time to recommend other vegan spots in the area. His expertise in explaining their menu options was truly impressive and added to the overall charm of the evening.
We decided to try two craft makgeolli flavors: pink peppercorn and spearmint with yuza. It’s hard to pick a favorite, as both were exquisite—far better than I ever imagined makgeolli could taste. Each sip was smooth and delicious, and I found myself having to resist the urge to order more.
For food, we chose the three-carb jeon, fried tofu salad, and fried mushrooms. Initially, we worried that choosing all fried dishes might result in something too heavy or oily, but this couldn’t have been further from the truth. Every dish was prepared with the highest quality, perfectly crispy without any greasiness. The flavors were spot on, leaving us completely satisfied without feeling weighed down.
All in all, this place turned out to be one of the highlights of my return trip to South Korea. The combination of exceptional service, delicious drinks, and quality food makes it a must-visit spot. I’m already planning to return at least once before my trip ends.
