Another new branch of family owned Hakka Restaurant

We have visited Federick for more than 3 decades in its locations in Scarborough as well as Mississauga. Seeing this location in MarkHam where we were running errands and meeting family we decided to try it here as well.

Quite busy on a Saturday night. Food comes out very quickly and so tables are turned around quickly as well. The service is good and the interior is clean. The tables are a bit closer to each other, which we don’t like.

The Vegan Hot and Sour soup was OK. Too reddish and not enough Hot (Spicy) and more sour. The black fungus, bamboo shoots do not help. More fresher veggies would have been preferred.

The vegan Fried Rice made was good but again the flavours too muted. Not enough ginger/garlic/chillies. The vegan Mee Goreng with Tofu was good. Was looking forward for this Indo Malay dish. Obviously not the same as we have had in Indo Malay.

The Chilli Veg Pakora is supposed to be spicy and with chillies - but it was mild and didn’t see any or a lot of visible green chillies. The gravy was good. The pakoras were slightly bigger than we love.

Pros: Some staff aware of vegan items , Very clean interior , Family owned local restaurant

Cons: Tables are too close to each other.
