The snorkel tour was great- two stops with a review of the cultural and historic happenings in the area before we got off the boat to see the fish, use the paddle board or just hang out in the water. I was super stoked to book this outing when I saw the plant-based menu. They have a farm up the mountain from the marina where they grow the food they serve on the boat. It was explained that the company wants to decrease its carbon footprint. The food turned out to be as delicious as it sounded and super filling. The warm cookies on the way back to the marina were delicious.
Great experience with Fair Wind. The food was very flavorful and fresh. I appreciate that they offer an all vegan meal and provide reef safe sunscreen. Definitely recommend!
2 different boat tour experiences through this company - but thankfully the same 2 meals on both! Fully vegan and delicious! Great snorkeling and the warm cookies were lovely after a morning spent on the water! Must do while on the Big Island!!
We’ve all been there: we’re excited to spend the day out on the water, seeing all the beautiful sea creatures as we snorkel. Then we hop back on the boat, and the only options for sustenance are a ham sandwich and nacho doritos. Not here!
Kind staff, a nicely-sized boat, and a yummy breakfast and even better lunch really make this stand out as a highlight from my Hawaii trip! I will admit, I have seen better, less-crowded snorkeling spots, but I still really enjoyed the overall experience. Lots of non-vegan folks do this tour as well, and apparently don’t know that the food is vegan. Makes for some funny overheard conversations.
One annoyance: hearing people talk about not eating the plant-based food. One plus: hearing people go “the pulled pork is vegan? no way!”
What a exciting find! A 100% plant-based menu on a snorkel boat. Breakfast was Kona coffee and tea with 2 choices of plant based milk, overnight oats in coconut milk with dried and fresh tropical fruit, and banana bread. Lunch was BBQ jackfruit and Chickpea salad sandwiches, potato and green salads, and homemade cookies! The staff was so helpful and friendly and the trip to Kealakekua bay the best snorkeling I’ve ever seen in HI! Highly recommend!
Snorkeling at Captain Cook is the best spot we have ever been to. This is our third time on the Fair wind because of their friendly staff, great equipment and ease of getting into water. We were pleasantly surprised to learn that they are now exclusively vegan with all food options. The jackfruit barbecue sliders and mac nut chocolate chip cookies were the standouts. Even heard a nonvegan exclaim that if someone cooked like this for him all the time he would be vegan. #Veganuary
As advertised, 100% plant based vegan food, drinks and desserts. All of it was amazing! It seemed like most people on board didn’t realize that it was all vegan and the crew didn’t say much about it. They also are eco-conscious and used only reusable plates, cups, and utensils, nothing disposable.
Highly recommend this company, the snorkel tour and definitely the food!
First, the food: Muesli, Banana Bread, Jackfruit sliders, Chickpea sandwiches, Ulu and Sweet Potato Salad, and more! Totally vegan. Totally delicious. Best tasting large-boat-tour food I've ever had.
The Boat: It's a big boat that accommodates a lot of people, but there's plenty of room to stretch out. Everyone has a seat. They have water slides, high dive, and snorkel gear. Great for a family or group. Nice staff, too.
I read an irritated review in a guidebook about this company “forcing you to be vegan” and it sounded too good to be true! Thankfully, the book was correct and this boat serves all vegan food aboard their boat. They do a great job of it too, with a nice variety of fresh food, including bbq jackfruit sliders, chickpea salad sliders, fresh fruit, potatoes, and some other vegan yummies. Friendly staff to boot. Highly recommend!
