Great food

I had the conscious potato and chickpea curry and it was delicious. It came with seasoned rice and a side of spinach/collards. It was the best meal I had road tripping around Tennessee!

Pros: Good prices, Good vegan options

Tasty!

They have a couple vegan options. I wanted to get the potato curry but they were out for the day. So i got the heralded black bean tacos and they were very good - the slaw on top makes the difference.
I don’t know if this is normal, but one friendly server had the whole restaurant, so it was very very very s-l-o-w.

Pros: Black-owned, Good prices , Authentic cuisine

Cons: Slow - at least when i went there, Out of potato curry at 2:30pm???

Food and service impeccable

The whole staff is amazing. The service was awesome, even is they were busy. The food was equally delicious. They have several vegan options and they have nonalcoholic specialty drinks that are made in house that are delicious.

Pros: Vegan options, The service, Live music

A Nice Little Find

Evelyn and Olive's is a cool little spot serving up tasty Jamaican dishes. There is not a ton of vegan stuff, but the black bean tacos and chickpea curry were truly delish. And the homemade lemonade was out of this world. The atmosphere was authentic and the service was very friendly. It's right down the street from Sun Studios and makes a great place to grab lunch before or after.

Tasty and friendly

Conveniently close to Sun Studios and Beale. Vegan options seem very good. The potato curry was going to take a while but we got drinks on the house while waiting, no complaints there! The kiwi slaw on the tacos is as amazing as everyone said.

Vegan options

It’s great to find a restaurant serving vegans that stays open until later than lunch. The main part of menu if for non-vegetarian/ vegan but there was a section for us as well. We started with sharing a plate of fried green tomatoes. For mains we had black bean tacos that came with a side of tomatoes and cucumbers as well as beans and rice & the other main was chickpea and potato curry with rice and garlicky collard greens. Both were delicious. We had a great evening. For vegans, remember to specify that you need vegan and not vegetarian that they don’t add cheese.

Authentic Jamaican southern food

Simple food. I had the black bean tacos without the kiwi slaw. Food was ok with simple flavours. Nice place to go if you’re with people who eat meat.

Pros: Vegetarian options which can be veganised , Not bad prices

Cons: Service was a little slow

Unique food and atmosphere

I took the advice of other reviewers and ordered the black bean tacos. They did not disappoint! My husband, who is not vegan, got the Jerk Tilapia pasta and loved his food as well. While there were not many vegan options, we always enjoy finding a place where we both come away enjoying something new. The place is a little small, but it adds a personal and friendly vibe.

Great food, excellent service

Excellent food - vegetarian section of entrees marked of which some are vegan and others possibly could be. Offering of vegan sides what you would expect from Caribbean restaurant (plantain etc). Had the black bean and tofu tacos and thought they were great.
Fairly small in terms of number of seats, at least when a big party has reserved space! But excellent service meant that the numbers weren't a problem.

Pros: Great food for VE and omnis, Excellent service, Closeish to downtown

Cons: Bit dark in some areas , Could have a couple more vegan options

New menu

They have improved and expanded their vegetarian menu and have vegan options now. I had the vegan tacos with tofu, black beans, and kiwi sauce, and it was amazing. Real southern hospitality and great atmosphere.

Ja'making it good

Nice place. Dedicated vegetarian section of the menu. Friendly staff!

We had the Rasta Pasta (mostly flavoured by the Parmesan cheese) and the Tacos (with tofu and beans...plus a side of delicious rice and beans!)

We also enjoyed the cocktails.

Southern and Jamaican foods are new to us, and we enjoyed this meal!

Pros: cocktails, staff

Cons: A little loud

Cozy, Fun, Local

Evelyn & Olive, located in The Edge district of Memphis, is a small, locally-owned restaurant combining the food heritages of its married owners: Southern U.S. and Jamaican. It has a vegetarian section of the menu with both vegetarian and vegan options, plus it has some vegetarian salads, sides, and sandwiches. Most of the vegetarian options would be easy to order as vegan, omitting the cheese. The atmosphere is colorful, eclectic, cozy, and diverse, plus the food is tasty and affordable! The tofu and black bean tacos with kiwi salsa are highly recommended. This restaurant also serves wine, beer, and cocktails. Good for a date or just dinner with friends.

Pros: delicious, affordable food, diverse, colorful atmosphere, locally owned

Cons: small space, reserve for larger parties
