Missed the Mark - Edit
I wanted to love this restaurant. In short, it's a 3-star meal in a 5-star setting.
Read moreIt started with the coffee. At $30 per person for brunch, I expected a quality cup of coffee. This tasted like the watered down version you get at Denny's. I noticed they had iced coffee on the menu for $5 more. I thought you must have to pay for the good stuff so I ordered that. Nope, same Denny's coffee, just on ice. That's $5 I'd never see again.
The stuffed french toast was palatable but nothing to write home about. The bread used was too thick and dense - it was a multigrain with sunflower seeds. The chef could have pulled this off if he would have included a light, airy vegan whipped cream inside with the fruit or had the whipped cream as an optional side but none was to be found.
The tofu scramble station is a brilliant idea and one I hope to see replicated and used more often. I was told the chef would be manning the station and make scrambles to order. Unfortunately, the entire time we were at brunch there was no one at the station.
The saving grace was the cous cous salad which was amazing. Also, the bread that they brought to the table was phenomenal. Those are the only positive things I can say.
The dessert consisted of a selection of mini-muffins. Perhaps they tasted wonderful, I don't know. They didn't look that appetizing and by this point in the meal I'd been let down enough times that I didn't bother to give them a try.
All of this said, the staff was outstanding and that's what saved the day. Everyone was very friendly, welcoming and attentive. The service was top notch and the environment is first class. I wish the food was too.

I went for my anniversary. It was very elegant, and all of the food was delicious. I chose the three-course option, and left feeling satisfied and not too full. I plan to return to try out other options!

Best all vegan brunch around - Edit
Years ago, their vegan brunch was a buffet. Now, they serve vegan food for brunch with a set menu for $48. The brunch is all vegan for all patrons. We started with focaccia with jam and a delicious corn chowder. This was followed by a salad, and the main course which consisted of two entrees. And to top things off was an excellent chocolate french toast followed by a tart for dessert. Excellent service and nice setting. It is all you care to eat, so if you want more of something, just ask. Extensive drinks menu.

Excellent Dinner! - Edit
We had been to their previous location for the plant based brunch in 2020, and loved it! This time we went for dinner and we weren’t disappointed. The service was lovely, very friendly staff, happy to answer questions and on top of any need. We had the focaccia to start (simple yet delicious) and then shared the two mushroom entrees, the Chanterelle & Trumpet Mushroom Wellington and the Crispy Maitake Teriyaki. The Wellington was very good, but the Maitake was outstanding! A very unique preparation of the mushroom that was so so good. Excellent meal, can’t wait to come back. They have quite a few vegan options (including dessert) and a plant based tasting menu too! Highly recommend checking this place out!

5/5 Vegan Brunch - Edit
The Sunday brunch is 100% plant based. It’s 7 courses and served family style. You can ask for any more of any dish. Every dish was amazing. One of my favorites restaurants I’ve ever eaten at.

Really good upscale vegan food - Edit
Amazing vegan options at this Omni restaurant. They have a vegan tasting menu, but I chose to order à la cart. I started with the focaccia appetizer with olive tapenade, as my entrée I had the mushroom Wellington, lastly for dessert I had the chocolate Bundt cake with coconut sorbet. The focaccia appetizer was a little too burnt from my taste, but the tapenade was really good. The mushroom Wellington was fantastic. It was served on a bed of spinach, sautéed mushrooms and a cream sauce. The cream sauce was very rich. I couldn’t finish it, but it was a great complement to the Wellington puff pastry. The Bundt cake was light and airy, I like mine to be more moist and dense, but it paired well with the coconut sorbet and I ordered a tawny port to go with it. Pay attention they add 20% tip. Ronnie was a great server, and he was supported by a great team.

Nice place for a splurge - Edit
The plant based tasting menu was very nice. Each of the five courses was creative, beautiful and delicious. My omnivore boyfriend got the market menu and enjoyed it. We also got the red sangria for two. A nice place to celebrate and splurge on a fancy meal.

Came for the all vegan brunch. Great service. The food presentation was beautiful. For the sweet tooth for sure. My favorite: the artichoke soup and the rhubarb marmalade offered with the focaccia. Take note: new location, but the same great experience.

We had another great vegan dinner here! Was caught a little offguard because they have changed location and must admit I like the other location better because they had booths. Great service! The trumpet and Chantrell mushrooms Wellington was delicious and the white beans soup was yummy again.

Wonderful Meal - Edit
The food was great. I had the white bean cassoulet, a piece of German chocolate cake with mango sorbet, and a pomegranate martini. It was all perfect. My husband had the same drinks and dessert but had meat for his meal. He was very happy with his meal, too.
Read moreI love that most of what is on the menu is vegan. That the menu varies with the seasons and what's available locally makes it interesting. It's in a great location, near the White House and other sites. The service was impeccable.
They recommend reservations. We did get a table without one, but it was just the two of us. This was definitely a splurge meal for us. It was worth every penny. Equinox will be on our list for every visit to D.C.
Pros: A lot of vegan options., Excellent service, knowledgeable & personable team, Excellent food

5 stars in our book! Reopened just last night at the new 900 19th St NW location.

Upscale, vegan tasting menu, needs a punch up - Edit
We enjoyed the vegan tasting menu - five courses all plant based! The chef clearly has a vegetable forward approach, and it's nice to have a variety of options at a special occasion spot.
Read moreI do think the flavors could be punched up a bit; everything was good, but on the more mild side of flavors. I did like that they didn't rely on fake meats or anything processed, just a celebration of the earth!

Hit or Miss - Edit
To sum it up: You'll have some of the best flavors you've ever had, but also you'll likely have something a little disappointing.
Read moreI've been here twice in different seasons and gotten the vegan tasting menu (the menu changes seasonally), and I've had wildly mixed results.
1) The soup course always blows me away-- literally the best soup I've *ever* had. TWICE.
2) The main course is always amazing as well-- really some shining stars here.
3) The salad course-- typically a little disappointing. The first time I had a really pretty good salad, nicely balanced flavors and a nicely chopped and thoughtful experience. But did it blow me away? Did it feel like it was worth the high price tag? No. The second time, I was pretty disappointed in my salad. The ingredients weren't carefully chopped, the flavors weren't anything spectacular, just overall kinda sad. My partner got the meat version of the menu and was extremely happy with each course on the other hand. This is the course where I feel like it's evident that the chef isn't a vegan?
4) The dessert course-- hit or miss again. The first time I thoroughly enjoyed it, but on my second visit, the dessert lacked flavor, while the non-vegan menu's dessert was dazzling.
5) The drinks are absolutely lovely. If you have a chance to arrive before you sit down to eat, the bartender is very knowledgeable and makes excellent cocktails and mocktails.

Great Food, Okay Desserts - Edit
Equinox has a fully vegan brunch on Sundays, and the food is great. Everything is incredibly tasty. The ambiance is also really nice. That said, the portions are quite small and the cost has skyrocketed in the last few years. Additionally, the desserts were lackluster this time. The "french toast" was not good. I'd recommend going at least once though.
