Average

the soup had pieces of shredded chicken and small bones, apart from the unmistakable flavor. The lady said that the spoon will have mixed with the other pot but was totally vegetarian. It's not nice to be lied to.
On top of that, lunch was average, rice and lentils, 1 beetroot croquette, sliced tomato that was inedible (white and creamy). dessert a burnt cake. I do not recommend it at all, their restaurant is not vegetarian, the menu is only meat and if you ask for lunch they improvise something.

Pros: Good juice

Cons: A bit dirty

It's not totally vegetarian

The restaurant has a lot of meat and don't offer differenc in menus.
Totally disappointed when I saw a soup with actual meat in it.

Pros: The name and they have sweets.

Cons: They don't have different menus

Pretty decent vegan local cuisine

This is a no frills vegan restaurant. They offer you a bowl of soup, make your own salad (pasta, carrots, tomatoes and dressing) and a main dish - choice was between 2 options, each including a soy "steak" plus a drink - soy milk or papaya juice (both are watered down).
The food was pretty tasty... enough for us to give Ecuadorian food another chance!

The cheapest one

Probably, the cheapest option you can find in Quito. Lunch for 2.75. The taste was pretty good. The place itself looked dirty. No other option was available, only lunch.

Pros: Cheap, Tasty

Cons: Dirty

A lot of tasty vegan options

First of all this is a buffet, they offer a lot of vegan options and every sauce is vegan. They are really aware of which options are or not vegan. Also the staff is really nice and helpful. The food is tasty and super cheap, got full with $4 dollars..

Great lunch spot near the old town

El Vegetariano was hopping when i arrived around 12:30 for lunch.

Food was great and on this day the lunch special was all vegan, so i got to try a variety of local flavors and everything was good.

Table sharing is the norm during the busy hours, which for me was a plus, as i got to meet a friendly local.

Enjoy!

Pros: Tasty local food, reasonably vegan-friendly, very inexpensive

Cons: Not open for dinner

Wonderful surprise!

First time on apply cow and was delighted to find vegan food in Quito! This was wonderful!! $5.00 for 2 complete lunches: brown rice, squash soup, entrees, empanadas-- wide variety! All delicious!! The atmosphere is simple and no frills. Went there on 2 consecutive lunches and found a great selection of soups, main dishes, empanadas, etc both days.

Pros: Delicious, Cheap, Goo selection

Nice local place

I've had lunch at El Vegetariano several times, and while it's not as good as nearby Govindas, it's still a nice place in the old town of Quito. The restaurant is frequented by locals, street vendors as well as businessmen, and can sometimes be crowded. The staff is friendly, but does not really know what's vegan and what's not. If you're in doubt, ask the lady at the counter instead of the waitress. They don't have a written menu, so some spanish is necessary if you want to know what's todays deal.

Pros: Good value, Fast service, Not touristy

Cons: Little untidy/unclean, Vegan uncertainty
