One star service and food

Despite being the only customer in the restaurant the food took a long time to be served. I was there for nearly two hours and had to get up to leave before my drink was served. Food was bland and dry.

Cons: Bland , Weird location , Slow service

Average Food

We ordered a burger & curry. Curry was bland with no taste at all lentils didn't seemed cooked. The burger patty was also nothing to write home about served with 3 pieces of fried potato. We also ordered a chilled ginger beer, it was served warm.

Pros: Relaxing ambience, Herbal teas, convenient location

Cons: Food has no taste, Pricey, Service is average

Nothing special

Why does one eat at the restaurant? One of the reasons is that the food at the restaurant is better than the food at home. This could be because the restaurant uses better ingredients, does better preparation or simply does better presentation. Regrettably, the Deva Deva Cafe does none of these. The food is good, but in no way better than home cooking.

We tried the set menu, which included a little of everything so we got a good impression of the kitchen's capabilities. The salad is okay, but nothing special in ingredient quality, in ingredient selection, in dressing or in presentation. The same goes for the rice, the fake chicken, the soup and the cake and even the drink: it's all fine, but nothing special. And like many said before: the portions are rather small compared to the price.

So, should you go to Deva Deva? If you happen to be in the neighbourhood, please do. It's about a 5 minute walk from the station and it's on the outskirts of the busy shopping streets, so it's easy to reach. You'll have a good and healthy meal. But Deva Deva is certainly not a reason for travelling to Kichijoji, because it's nothing special.

Pros: easy to find, quiet atmosphere, decent food, wide selection

Cons: average quality, small portions

Wouldn’t bother! Not 100% Vegan

We got two ‘chicken’ burgers which were dry and terrible. The avocado we paid extra for wasn’t ripe and was chewy. The Banana maple smoothie tasted like soy milk. The tea was tasteless and we got charged over 4,000 yen. Also we ordered the cheese on our burgers, I thought to double check even though all staff wore badges on their shirts stating ‘100% VEGAN’, to be told that the cheese was in fact real as “it is hard to find vegan cheese in japan so we use normal cow made”. I really wouldn’t bother with this place, the portions are tiny also.

Pros: None

Cons: To many to list

Tiny, bland, expensive.

Walked in and told half the menu wasn’t available
Ended up with a burger and the curry
The burger tasted like powder and had literally 5 chips on the side. The burger was so dry we asked for tomato sauce and got charged 50yen for a thimble’s worth and the curry was pretty much yellow water but we still paid almost 4K yen all up
(If I could choose zero stars I would)

Cons: everything

nice but expensive for size

We had the chicken burger with avocado/chips. The texture of the mock chicken was great, but the burger was tiny and there was a very small portion of chips. Great for the novelty, but it’s decently expensive for how little food you get. I suggest going to Arnold’s for one of their vegan donuts afterwords to make up for it!

Pros: great mock meats

Cons: distance from city , small portions for price

Super friendly owner!

We spent an hour travelling out to this restaurant since it was the only vegan place nearby. Unfortunately we arrived just before closing time however the owner re-opened the kitchen and cooked up a take away just for us! We were extremely grateful and the food tasted fantastic.

Pros: Super friendly owner, Tasty burgers!

Warm, vegan cafe

Ordered the burger set menu for lunch, which included soup/salad, burger, and tea/coffee. The food was very good and tasted very fresh. I appreciated the subtle flavors of the food, although I thought the bun to burger ratio was a bit off. Would definitely recommend checking them out if you’re in Kichijoji! And next time I might need to save room for the huge sundae the couple near us just received at their table. Looks amazing.

Pros: fresh, seasonal food

Cons: A bit pricy

Small af

First of all, the hours are ridiculous. I'd been wanting to go for a long time but the timing was never right and finally one day came a time I could go when they were open.
I ordered a burger because that is what they are known for but, when it arrived I was shocked at how small it was. The taste was all right, but there are way better vegan burgers in Tokyo (and more accessible locations) My friend ordered a sakura drink that was disgustingly salty.
The price was also high and not worth it. Overall a bad experience.

Pros: nice lighting

Cons: high price, small, bland food

A Great Vegan Spot in Kichijoji!

My wife and I have been going here for years and have never been disappointed. Several great options to choose from, including seasonally featured dishes. Portions may be a bit on the small side by western standards but who really needs that much food in one sitting?

Pros: Great food., Nice vibe., Friendly staff.

Cons: A little difficult to find if you don't use a maps

A bit bland..

I had heard and seen pictures of people always talking about DevaDeva cafe, so when I had the opportunity to come I was excited, but that excitement left me all at once as soon as I took my first bite of my burger. I came for lunch with my partner and ordered the katsu burger (the katsu is a piece of kouya (freeze dried) tofu breaded with panko) and my partner had the curry and a salad as a side dish. Service was a little slow, actually our order was taken a little later than some people who had arrived after us, that wasn't much fun. After finally getting our order placed the food took a little long to make in my opinion. The burger looked good, and the potato wedges it came with were nice, but when I took a bite of the burger I felt a little like "huh?" as there was just no taste! I wondered if I had just taken a bite of bread only, but nope...just no flavour. I don't know why it was, but everything together just tasted of nothing. I understand that Japanese cooking tends to not have strong flavour, but this was way beyond that. My partner then had her curry, and same thing...no flavour, no depth, just some heat from the spice and that was about it.

The pastries and deserts looked good on the way out but I didn't want to bother with those after experiencing the lack of taste from the main course. Apparently according to my partner they don't use strong flavours in their food like garlic onion etc, not for buddhist reasons but for yogi reasons (which I'm not at all familiar with). But what you're left with is a pretty bland dish.

That said they seemed to be pretty busy, so I guess that's good..

Nevertheless I don't think I would come back here again I'm afraid. It's not cheap, either.

Pros: Vegan food in tokyo

Cons: Expensive, Bland, Slow

Not worth the trip

Was very excited to find that they had pizza, but when I ordered it was super thin, not a lot of vegan cheese on and didnt taste so much, the vegan milkshake was lot better but was hard to enjoy it when the main course wasnt that good.

Pros: The milkshake I had, Friendly staff

Cons: The pizza, Hard to find

not so good

Kind and helpful staff but the food was not so good, certainly in comparison with the few vegan restaurants I've tried in Tokyo. I've orderd the curry rice and it was a bit tasteless, I also had a tomato soup as side dish, this one was better than the rest. My friend tried one of their burger...it looked not so yummy.
Even though, if they are still open next year when I go back in Tokyo I will try to eat there again.

Disappointing and Low Quality

Based on the various good reviews, my partner and I visited the place with high expectations. We both ordered the chicken yogi burger.

The burger looked appetizing but after the first bite we quickly noticed that the patty were slightly undercooked. The burger breading were soggy and slimy. The bun was ok, nothing special about it. The sauce was probably the only good thing about the burger.

It was a small burger with a small portion of potato wedges. And was served on a massive plate which made the whole dish look sad and empty. Additionally you have to pay extra to get ketchup in your burger. Condiments are normally free of charge in other restaurants.

Overall, this is not a placed I'd go back.

Pros: friendly staff

Cons: small portion , expensive , low quality food
