Great food! - Edit
The Deshima is super close to the museumsstraat, so if you plan to visit the rijksmuseum definitely stop by! The meal of the day was very colorful and tasty. The price was definitely justified!

could be better - Edit
Nice place, it looks really cozy and the staff is friendly, but we ordered the meal of the day and the eight tiny dishes were just flavorless...I really wanted to like it more, but it just didn’t taste good...

A nice, little restaurant. With nice people working there and good, not amazing food.

We arrived late, but the staff greeted us with grace, and generously served us with what was remaining of lunch (which was delicious). We loved every minute we were there!

So-so food - Edit
I wanted to like Deshima more, I really did. It was clean and well-lit, the service was good, and my plate had a number of different things. But Japanese macrobiotic food is not the most flavorful, and this place isn't cheap, so I'm not sure I got the most bang for my buck. You may well get more out of it than I did.

I had the meal of the day and some sushi to share with a friend and it was amazing. So healthy and filled me up! The lady serving us was super knowledgeable and took the time to explain any unfamiliar ingredients to me. They also have tons of info on probiotics which was really interesting!

So healthy and filling - Edit
My partner ordered the meal of the day which was a platter of maybe 8 things. Grains and veggies. He liked it pretty well. 15€. I had the large soup (white bean) and salad (pickled with seaweed) and 2 small pieces of rye (?) bread. 7€. I thought mine was really good. And a good price and filling. I had the miso the next day. I liked the white bean better. It was chunkier. Both had great flavor. There is an asian flair to these foods. I liked it. I think seaweed and fermented foods are good for me. He had an apple pie. He liked it ok. I also had the ohagi 3€50, seitan roll 3€50, and a seaweed tofu wrap 4€. The ohagi is sesame seeds covering sweet rice with a miso and almond center. Pretty good. Wish I had some soy sauce. There is some on the table but I ate this at home. The seitan roll filling was very good. I haven't eaten tofu wrap yet. The gf chocolate cake I had was also really good. AND there is a grocery downstairs. I got some stroopwafels. Highly recommend. Also got dried apricots and figs. There was some produce and rice and beans and toothpaste and other things like that. Lots of asian stuff too. Like seaweed and miso. Also hummus in fridge.

Nice little place - Edit
I ordered a tofu sushi roll, filled savoury pastry, a sort of rice ball, and a fruit pie. The pastry was so good I ordered another. The rice ball was totally bland, like sushi without filling. I didn’t finish it.

Nice place and good healthy foods - Edit
A fusion kitchen influenced by Japonaise style and ingredients. We have enjoyed the dish that put together all the meals of the day. Very good and healthy. The dessert made with chocolate and cheakpeas was absolutely amazing. The space is warm and pleasant. Downstair there is an organic shop very well furnished, especially with interesting japonaise products

Fantastic overall experience - Edit
Whenever I come to Amsterdam I stop and eat at Deshima. I even take away an extra meal and some Sushi and Ohagi for my way home. The food just makes me feel good - no matter what’s on the menu. I am also quite impressed how easy the staff deals with high frequency and a full house. They are always very friendly and supportive, answer all of my questions that usually come up when I am there eating macrobiotic food. There is always an air of feeling home and having time.

Exceeded Expectations - Edit
We were touring Rijks Museum and learned Deshima was a Dutch trading post in Japan. Deshima the restaurant is just across the canal from Rijks. We decided to take our lunch break at Deshima and were most pleasantly surprised with this prospering restaurant and health food store. The daily meal deal offered moderate servings of 7 different dishes all vegan. We loved having the great variety all in one meal. They also offer smaller portions of soups and single dishes at a more moderate price point. The offers a pleasant environment.
