Let down by the staff - Edit
After a fortnight traveling around the Philippines and struggling to find vegan food I was delighted to spend my last evening here at the raved about Corner Tree Cafe. I arrived very excited by the lovely decor and wide array of dishes on the menu and specials board. I started off with the vegetable dumplings. A big favourite of mine throughout my travels of Asia. Unfortunately although packed; there were large chunks of uncooked ginger, not the most pleasing to have to chew, inside the under cooked dough. The vinegar dipping sauce received mixed reviews. Although not bad it didn't compliment the flavour of the dumplings. An underwhelming and frankly stodgy start.
Read moreMy main of "Kare-Karang Gulay" admittedly wasn't the best choice. Firstly it came whilst we still had our starter plates on the table which I had to hold up out of the way before the sour faced waitress took it away. Again this dish was very stodgy and somehow everything was the same texture, as if the vegetables had been over cooked and the whole dish sat around for too long. Not the "garden fresh and zesty" dish described. The organic red rice and vegetarian bagoong however were fine.
Not the finest food we'd ever had, we thought maybe we'd just chosen the wrong dishes. However when we tried to get the attention of a waitress to ask for separate checks she briskly went off to get the check before properly acknowledging us so we could explain what we wanted. When the single check did come and we asked for separate checks due to only having large bills and admittedly being bad at math she snatched the check from me and heaved a disgusted sigh. I genuinely felt from the look we received guilty, as if I'd missed the memo and was asking for something incredulous. She was incredibly rude in her expression and didn't once even hint at a smile, leaving us with a sour taste all over. An unfortunate experience for our last night, which could have been easily erected by basic good customer service (for which we were charged 12%). I do believe we got a bad waitress possibly having a bad day, the waiter who took away our dishes and seated us seemed lovely.
Pros: Wide array of dishes , nice ambience
Cons: Food wasn't great , Worst customer service

First of all, sorry for the delayed response. I saw this review just recently and had a talk with the staff. The waitress has apologized and said it will never happen again. She said she was very tired but still not an excuse for bad service.
Read moreSorry you were disappointed with the food. It really must have been a bad day because the dumplings are one of the most popular (and delicious) starters at the cafe. The Kare-Kare too, although maybe it is more a Filipino thing. I've asked the foreigners though, what they think of it and they say they really like it but thanks for reminding that maybe the vegetables were overcooked. I've reminded the kitchen to keep it crunchy. So sorry it wasn't a great experience for you. I've spoken to many people who've told me it was the best restaurant in their entire holidays and many just keep coming back which is why it is disappointing to hear that this happened.
Thank you for the feedback though -- it helps us keep striving to make things better. If you are back one day, let us treat you to a nice meal. Thanks again.

Yum! - Edit
Got the carrot soup, oyster mushroom birria tacos, and chocolate cake. The birria was hot and rich and juicy with a crisp shell; definitely the highlight of the meal. The cake was delicious but a bit too crumbly for my tastes. The soup was fine. Everything is clearly labeled as vegan or vegetarian (and most dishes have vegan options available).

First finding alliumfree options in Philippines is not easy. And there are 3 dishes that I could choose from! And it is not the usual margherita pizza 😝

I like the vegan carrot cake. The main dishes were expensive though even though they were decent.

Very sorry about the prices but everything has gone up and it's really hard to keep prices down because of the ingredients in the dishes. But happy to hear you liked the dishes anyway

Veg food and old time jazz - Edit
Vegetarian joint with quite a few vegan options. Cuisine from all over the globe, but I usually stick with the Filipino dishes. Pretty good sinigang gulay served with red rice and vegan patis. Another solid menu choice is the laing (taro leaves cooked in coconut milk and chili pepper). One unique point is the restaurant uses Kangan water system for all of their cooking. Also serves it (free) to customers. In fact there were a few times I popped in on a hot day, and the staff was kind enough to fill my thermos, just as I was passing by the cafe.

Favorite vegetarian place in the metro - Edit
Love this place. Truly international, from Filipino to Asian, European, American, to Middle Eastern dishes available. All are vegetarian, but not all vegan -- easy to spot, they're all properly labelled, even those you can veganize. Really enjoyed the dukka and bread, fried lumpia, arroz ala cubana, veg nut roast w gravy, kofta on couscous, sugar free carrot cake. Even their coffee is good.

Pricey, but cute ambiance - Edit
Food presentation was a little subpar and the flavour was okay, especially for the price. But all was good as they had decently priced coffee and lots of vegan ice cream options.😄The interior and the courtyard were good, but the actually location of the cafe is adjacent to a very busy road. Was a little cumbersome to access the restaurant on foot. I guess I probably wouldn't return to eat here when there are many other delicious places to eat.

Wide selection of food. Great ambience. Had a great starter plate. Favorites ala cubana and laing had underwhelming presentation and taste. Ice cream was served somewhat warm and semi melted.

Poor quality - Edit
I ate here on my last visit to Manila 2 years ago with a friend that took me here who lives here - the food was delicious. HOWEVER I just got a salad to go and was so disappointed at the quality and size of the portion when I went to eat it. The lettuce was all turning black and rotting. There was at most 1/4 cup of quinoa, about 7 small slices of asparagus and maybe 1 teaspoon of feta. It was terrible quality and the smallest salad I've ever eaten (for 330PHP!).

Test of time - Edit
I’ve been going here for years on and off and never had a bad experience. The food is always delicious and the service great. However, Manila Vegan scene has evolved but this place hasn’t. Should offer more vegan options and do menu rotations. I’ve never been disappointed but also never been WOWed.

Good taste but a bit pricy - Edit
Just tried the seaweed salad, which is WFPB (first time to see a wholly WFPB dish outside in Manila). Simple dish with good flavor, though it was a bit pricy for the amount you get.

Worth it - Edit
This was the closest vegetarian place to me during my brief stay in Makati and it was a lifesaver. The menu prices will set you back, but being Makati I had to get over what I was used to paying on some of the other islands. The menu is wonderful with vegan and non-vegan options. Being vegan, I had the African stew, the lentil soup (mind blowing), the nut burger, and vegan ice cream with cookie. They even serve a local kombucha which was tasty as heck and nearly impossible to find elsewhere in the Phils. The staff could be friendly, but also lethargic. Each time, after giving me the menu I would have wasted away if I didn't take the bull by the horns and get their attention to order. Food prep is also slow.

Has so much potential but sadly doesn't deliver. Large menu and varied but food didn't blow my mind (Had a Filipino curry with rice). Cake was still partially frozen. Nice vegan ice cream but tiny portion. Service is extremely slow and they forgot we ordered drinks. I wouldn't recommend really.

I specifically went to have lunch here, and wasn't disappointed! They have an extensive menu, mostly vegan. The feature all kind of cuisines, but I liked the fact that I could try local Filipino dishes made vegan, as the Philippines aren't generally that vegan-friendly. I added the menu as per May 2018, so have a look!

Lovely vegetarian restaurant with vegan options (clearly marked). We had the spinach fill pastry triangles, nut roast, arroz a cubano, raw apple pie and salted caramel torte. The nut roast and raw apple pie were outstanding. The other stuff was also pretty good. Reasonably priced, super cosy, will definitely be going back.
