lovely little cafe

We've been to this cafe a few times now and loved it every time. The owner is super friendly and helpful. Dogs are welcome and our dog got her photo taken for the dog wall! The pies are great and when you order a coffee it comes in a nice large mug. We are always made to feel welcome and will definitely continue to visit when we're in the area.

Pros: great pies and dog friendly

Cons: none

Awesome selection of homebakes, savoury pies and quiche - and dog friendly too!

Hi, welcome to the Capercaillie Coffee House page! Please be aware we are just that - a coffee house, not a restaurant, so food is served in a way that is also easy to take away with you if you fancy :)

We have various cupcakes, brownies, muffins and fudge (all vegan, mostly gluten free) and we also have savoury options, including macaroni pie, chilli pie, curry pie, mince and skirlie pie and cheese and bean pie! We also sell tofu quiche and savoury pesto and sun-dried tomato muffins.

Coffee, tea and turmeric lattes are available and we have cold drinks cartons for you too.

Your dogs are ALWAYS welcome and they will get their photo taken for our Dog Wall, so please bring them past to say hello!

Bizarre

I noticed the listing on Happy Cow, at the time without any reviews. You need to be sharp as upon arriving at The Bognie Arms or the adjacent road junction there is absolutely no signage to suggest that there is any ‘coffee house’ for those on the road. Inside, the only others were a lady with her daughter and a young St.Bernard dog. Choice of savoury food was quiche or individual pies, most seemed to be wrapped in cling film within a cabinet. I had quiche but the only way of heating it is by microwave. The result is less than ideal. Just a slice of quiche. No salad or coleslaw on the plate. A “lunch” is not available. Genuinely surprised at how the experience was. Absolutely no interaction with us as customers, focus was all about the other lady’s dog and the host’s dogs. Coffee - a few minutes after ordering we were asked again if we would like a coffee - only one other adult in the place! The table hadn’t been cleaned and even after delivering coffees our host had to be prompted to remove a dirty coffee spoon and provide clean ones and subsequently got the order wrong for the ‘bill’. I’m left baffled. It seems the few customers are making an effort for the lady running the place, but there are pieces of the puzzle missing. There are superb vegan cafes in Inverness and Aberdeen. Just - very sadly - I doubt if the venue will be here in a year.

Pros: Countryside location, but remote

Cons: Disorganised, Doesn’t match the website’s ‘promise’

Sorry you feel that The Capercaillie is "bizarre", we are a coffee house, not a restaurant and so any food on offer has to be easy to both heat and store - hence no salads as it would mean continually leaving the cafe to go to the kitchen (which is occupied by another chef)

It's a shame you felt that way but you can't please all the people all of the time I guess ^_^ The family with the St Bernard have been highly recommending us to their friends and family so I'm delighted

Well Worth A Visit

I visited the Capercaillie today and was very impressed. The service is friendly and the food is delicious. I recommend the cheesecake and cupcakes, and there is also a good selection of vegan quiche and pies to choose from! It's dog friendly too, what's not to like?

Pros: Friendly, Delicious food, Dog friendly

Cons: None
