Beautiful location - Edit
I was there in June 2021 and was sitting on the outside terrace. The view was beautiful and I liked the terrace itself. The staff were friendly and they were okay with the mouth mask-exception, so my best friend was able to go to the toilet. It was a bit chaotic though. They broke and dropped a lot of glasses, drinks and food that day and they gave us the wrong order for about 3 times. They also made us the wrong food with pig flesh.. We ordered the vegan version of a soup and if the chef didn't run outside to warn us, we would have eaten it thinking it was vegan. The second time they gave us the soup with dairy.. We repeatedly mentioned we are animal rights activists and vegan.

The first restaurant in this region with decent vegan options - Edit
Finally, a restaurant in this region which has vegan options. Most of the times we have had to go to Maastricht, Liège or Aachen to enjoy a decent vegan meal in a restaurant. Nearby, we have had to be happy with vegetarian options were the cheese was left out of a salade and was not replaced by a decent option. Now, we have had a lovely evening in our own village. We think it's a great value to have a restaurant in the touristic area of Voeren with vegan options. The staff was friendly and kind to inform us about the meal. We have had a nice jackfruit bourguignon with a lovely salade aside, and French Fries who are baked in vegetable oil. The vegan mayonnaise was home-made and a bit acidic, just like the real Belgium mayonnaise. Our daughter had home-made vegan "bitterballen (Dutch meat based snack)", which were absolutely delicious. Café Modern is situated in an old school building with a cosy retro interior, fireplace and an organ. Dogs are allowed. Nice place to go to enjoy a meal with loved ones after a day of hiking!

Update (september 2020): apparently new owners. The only vegan dish is the grilled zucchini with pumpkin, fennel, sweet potato, mushrooms and quinoa.
